『I know it as information. But I suppose I don’t really understand it exactly. Do you know it, Ain?』
「I can’t say I don’t know, but I can’t say I understand it either.」

It’s well represented in stories, so I can at least imagine it. Moreover, I think I’ve already felt emotions similar to love.
However, different people have different ways of feeling and interpreting love, so it’s difficult to decisively answer. Even the word “like” can mean different things depending on the context. “Like” and “love” are generally differentiated, but I don’t think just those are enough.

『I see. If Ain doesn’t understand it, then it’s probably harder for me to understand.』
「Then there’s not―」

―*’much I can say,’* I was about to respond, but since I heard Ciel continue, 『But you see,』 I held my tongue.

『I think what I feel towards Ain is something close to it.』
「Close to it?」

I asked in a puzzled tone, but in truth, I felt the sense of relief. I cherish Ciel dearly as well. It’s like the feeling of knowing that you’re mutually in love with someone, but I hesitate to firmly describe it that way.
That’s probably because I know relationships of love can be a fragile thing. A relationship with a chance of ending scares me to no end.

Because of that, I really don’t want to describe our relationship as that of love1.

『You said it before, right, Ain? Ain is willing to become whatever I wish you to be.』
「That’s right. If Ciel wishes it, I can be your parent, your friend―whatever you want me to be.」
『Yes, that makes me happy. And I think Ain should already know, but I’ve read a lot of stories, you see.』
「Naturally. I don’t really read much, though.」

Learning to read at an early age, Ciel has read a lot of books outside of study material. I was a late reader, so except for the simple books I used for practice, I didn’t read any storybooks.

『A number among those depicted stories about love. But you know, Ain…』
「What is it?」
『When I was reading stories about people being happy, I didn’t really feel any yearning for it.』

Only Ciel knows her own feelings at the time. However, considering our living circumstances back then, it wouldn’t be strange for her to admire and yearn for the lives of these fictional characters. After all, no matter what struggle they face, they overcome it and eventually reach a happy ending.
Even if Ciel was still young back then, she might have had an unconscious yearning inside her heart.

However, that apparently isn’t the case.

『After all, I already had Ain. Besides, Ain will keep being by my side, right?』
「That’s… of course.」
『That’s enough to give me happiness. That’s why, Ain, could you teach me about it?』

With those words, I finally surrendered and taught Ciel the meaning of the lyrics.

『Girls in love are adorable, right? Is that why there are so many adorable moves and gestures?』
「*Umm*, I think so, at least.」

After prefacing that it’s only my personal interpretation, I taught Ciel the meaning of the lyrics, and after several questions, this last one had me unable to hide my exhaustion.
I was prepared for this beforehand, but relaying the meaning of a song’s lyrics with your own words is mentally and emotionally taxing.
Still, this should be the end, and it’s all well as long as I can be helpful to Ciel… Or so I thought, but I was then made to realize how mistaken I was.

『Say, Ain. Now with the full context, could you show me the steps one more time?』
「*Umm*… Well, alright.」

Yup. If there’s no follow-up example, lectures can be difficult to understand. Still, I wanted to avoid performing so much that I postponed the explanation, resulting in this. That was thoughtless of me… But since Ciel’s just being logical, I guess I’ll have to dance again…

Understanding the lyrics of the song, Ciel danced at the manor yard.
With springy steps softer than her usual playful ones, she moves to the rhythm, side to side. She extends her arms grandly, as if to show the measure of the happiness she feels while occasionally tucking them back to her chest as if to hold it dear.

Wherever her feet touch, lovely pale flowers bloom around it. Whenever she opens her arms wide, pink petals appear out of nowhere following her movements.

The yard is being transformed every second, but we’ve gotten permission in advance so Mother Fii wouldn’t get mad.
The spirits will apparently fix up everything afterwards, so there’s no need to worry about the clean-up.

Her moves are more girly than usual, and right as the dance ended, a gust of wind suddenly blew the scattered petals up to the air.
Gathered in the air, the petals form into a large flower before scattering like fireworks.
Before the petals could reach the ground, they’re bathed in fire, disappearing like falling sparks.

This is Ciel’s new dance style; a dance meant to be seen by many.

「Fufu, this is fun, so fun!」

It was just one song, but Ciel had a very satisfied smile.

『Yes, I’m having fun with it as well.』
「Knowing what the lyrics mean really makes it feel like I’m dancing together with Ain!」

Before I could respond to Ciel, she said, 「One more time,」 so I sang once again.

Translator's Note

And that ends this chapter! Our girls continue to sing and dance into the sunset~!

Poor Ain had to share her very personal interpretation of love songs, which from the description of the dance she’s teaching, is probably from bubbly idol songs, lol. Up until now Ain has been mostly singing less pop songs, and more movie/anime/fantasy BGM, but she’s really most familiar with idol dances, lol. I do like the point made in the previous chapter about how dances are choreographed in the era of TVs; I imagine it like bending in the Avatar animated TV series, it’s probably easier for Ciel to exert influence or direct the magic by using her whole body instead of smaller gestures. Also, Ciel being sweet to Ain while also low-key teasing her with the dancing showing once again why she’s one of my favorite characters of all time, lol. They deserve to be happy.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
