Guided by Miss Leshy, we headed to the capital’s town center. Unlike the streets hunters regularly pass through, the streets here are vibrant and sanitary.
There’s still some pedestrian traffic, but not enough to feel cramped and congested. It doesn’t have the liveliness of the market area, but it’s by no means dead silent.
The stone pavings draw organized patterns, and the people walking wear good-quality fabrics and seem to be enjoying themselves. We occasionally pass by benches, with some occupied by people taking a break, so the atmosphere here isn’t bad at all. It’s probably an area where the more affluent people gather.
Miss Leshy confidently led the way but stopped right before a certain establishment. On closer inspection, it appears to be a boutique. 「Miss Ail, over here.」 Urging Ciel, she entered the store ahead of us.
Ciel soon followed after, and inside was a spacious interior with rows of various clothing.
There were shop assistants present, but they only gave their greetings without approaching us. Is it just shop policy, or were they instructed to behave unobstructively beforehand?
Either way, as long as they keep their distance, it’s fine by me.
『I know that girls love clothing, but still…』
『Oh? But isn’t Ain a girl now, too? The Creator God said so, after all, since Ain is a Song Princess.』
『Well, that’s true, and I do have more interest in it now than in my previous life.』
I frequently think about what would look cute on Ciel. And while it’s embarrassing to see myself dressed up in front of a mirror, I don’t really hate it. I look similar to Ciel, so I want to look pretty, too.
『However, what I meant to say is that both we and Princess Leshy should have a near excessive amount of clothes, and most of them tend to be custom-made.』
『Hmm, that is a fair point.』
While having a suggestive smile, Ciel answered with a contemplative tone before then speaking to Miss Leshy.
「Miss Leshy, do you frequent shops of these sorts?」
「I almost never get to go inside one. Whenever we need clothing, we simply call a tailor to the pala―no, our home. Those clothes don’t necessarily suit my liking either. While my preferences are considered, the overall design is already settled in most cases. That’s why… it’s actually a small dream of mine to―」
She hung her head in embarrassment. Come to think of it, being a princess probably doesn’t give her much freedom in fashion as well. Perhaps the most she could do is pick out what fits her preferences the most from a prescribed assortment of royal garbs. While a selfish princess might demand for beautiful dresses of her liking, I don’t find Miss Leshy to be the demanding type.
For that reason, it must be a dream of hers to freely pick clothes for herself, regardless of them being pre-made goods.
While pondering over the princess’ peculiar predicament, as though to gloss over her embarrassment, Miss Leshy then asked, 「How about you, Miss Ail?」
「It varies. There are times when I buy pre-made garb, times when I go to a boutique to have something designed, and times when we call a tailor to the manor.」
「That―sounds quite enjoyable.」
「Yes, it is.」
The part that Ciel enjoys is brainstorming the design of my clothes with everyone in the manor, isn’t it? Or thinking about what kind of clothes would pair well with mine. While we have a princess-like position in Central, it’s completely different from Miss Leshy’s situation.
Though perhaps that is part of why Princess Leshy wanted to meet Ailneige halfway.
「Miss Ail, what colors do you like?」
「Black and whatever complements it.」
「Umm, would it be alright if I picked an attire for you?」
「I don’t really mind, but…」
「Then let’s get to it!」
While Ciel couldn’t seem to understand her sentiment, Miss Leshy excitedly went deeper into the store. Ciel saw her off, and Mia could only watch with a troubled smile.
『I wonder what happened.』
『She probably wants to have fun picking clothes for you. You like picking out clothes for me, so you should understand how she feels, right?』
『Is that so? But I enjoy it because it’s with Ain, you know?』
『I enjoy choosing clothes for you as well, and I believe the servants of the manor feel the same way. We picked out clothes for you in hopes that you’d be happy.』
I’m happy enough seeing Ciel wear my choice of clothes. And while it’s just a hunch, as long as they aren’t absurd-looking, Ciel would probably be happy just knowing that I picked them.
I have absolutely no intention of making Ciel wear anything bizarre.
Also, while I fully expected this, Ciel doesn’t plan on returning the favor and choosing clothes for Miss Leshy. But that’s fine for now. It just means that Ciel doesn’t find it worth doing.
Still, since we’re already here, let’s take a look at the shop offerings.
Boutiques that sell pre-made clothing are actually quite few. I assume it’s because not many can prepare enough equipment for a full-on production line.
There might be sorceric tools specialized in goods production, but if it’s for something large-scale, it would probably end up being expensive, and the magic core upkeep is going to be proportionally as costly. In general, shops will only have handmade stuff displayed as samples. That was how it was at Shusii’s place, too.
As for what they’re selling here, with the current season, many of them are summer-oriented outfits. Actually, it’s mostly summer dresses. The other choices are also all skirts; no pants for sale.
This is probably the norm for boutiques aimed at the average female customer. The only other boutique I can think of is Shusii’s store, but their shop is aimed at hunters, so the atmosphere is pretty different.
The general prices don’t seem to be that different, though.
Anyway, this establishment mainly sells summer dresses and outerwear to pair with them, like cardigans or jackets. Though as expected, there aren’t any coats. No cloaks or capes either.
And that ends this update! The girls’ outing continues to be cute and wholesome, with our Princess Leshy really going all out! Glad to see her not stressed for once!
Our girls seem to be in a more affluent part of the capital, maybe a middle-high class area. The fact that the princess is also using this as a chance to try out things she’s never tried before is equal parts adorable and sad, imo. It must be genuinely comforting for her to not be the person with the highest status when with Ailneige, in addition to our girls just not caring much about social hierarchy stuff.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice week~!
