It’s a different story if the headmistress was actually concealing her strength, resulting in her remaining at A-rank, but I don’t think she has any reason to do that. If she was like us, who simply remained in A-rank because S-rank would be troublesome, there should be rumors about her being actually S-rank in strength despite her rank. Moreover, Munyechka, her own master, proclaimed that she can’t reach S-rank, so we can probably win.
If what Princess Leshimiiya told us was true, then the headmistress should not be able to perfectly perceive my power. Even so, she can probably still sense it somewhat, which is probably why she looked our way during the welcome party.

『Can I talk about us being Mother Fii’s daughter?』
『Isn’t it fine? It shouldn’t really cause us any problems. Besides, if it does, then we can just run. When that happens, can we go play by the ocean?』
『That sounds nice. Let’s find one we can swim at next.』
『Could you teach me how to swim, Ain?』
『If you’re fine with my way of swimming.』
『I’m looking forward to it.』

While discussing with Ciel, the headmistress was puzzled by the silence, so I continued as if nothing happened.

「About myself, was it? I don’t intend on putting on airs, so I wouldn’t mind sharing. But headmistress, do you truly want to know who I am? There are such things better left unknown, you know?」
「So you’ll actually give a proper answer?」
「It’s not really a problem as long as I choose who to share it with, after all. Even if I don’t, it’ll only be troublesome, not fatal.」

If we were just a princess of another nation, then I’d probably have to be prudent about various cross-national matters my actions could influence. However, we are the family of Central’s Mistress Fiiyanamia. Mother Fii rules Central not through economic prowess nor through political might, but through violence. It’s not an exaggeration to say that overwhelming violence is the source of her authority.
What Mother wants to protect is strictly the very land of Central; the people living there are none of her concern. In that sense, Mother Fii is like a dragon, and we’re similar in that regard.

If humanity’s rules happen to put Ciel in danger, I can easily crush those rules.
When that happens, Mother Fii would probably be the only one capable of stopping me. Because of that, exposing our secret would not be fatal for us, but for our opposition. There is a slim chance that we may encounter beings close to my level, which is why I never neglect improving myself.

「Had you chosen to remain an ordinary student, there would be no need, but at this point, I cannot afford to not know. Despite appearances, I am an academy head.」
「I see. My name is Cielmer. Regarding my status, I am Fiiyanamia’s adopted daughter.」
「…—Yup, I’ve considered the possibility, but still… 」

The headmistress’ face was difficult to describe. Mother Fii adopting a child is a major incident that she probably has kept in the corner of her mind, so I can understand her disbelief of that said child being here.
Perhaps she initially denied the possibility out of how much she’d rather not handle the responsibility. Having Fiiyanamia’s daughter graduate from your academy would surely bring great prestige, but that is hardly necessary for an already prestigious academy. If you’d ask me, the anxiety of such an important individual possibly getting into trouble under your tenure would probably be a greater concern.

「Would I be correct to assume that you’re as young as you appear?」
「I’m 13 years old, so I should be older than I appear, I believe?」

I mused for a moment, but since I don’t intend to share about Ainsel, I decided to speak from Ciel’s perspective. I don’t even know how to count my age to begin with. While I technically have more than 30 years of life experience, since I did die and was supposed to reincarnate properly, you could say that I was “born” when I was sent to Ciel, or since I wasn’t actually reincarnated, you could also consider my age of death as my proper age.

「—To think there are beings like you around. The world truly is large. As an educator, it makes me feel equal parts joyful and sad.」
「Was this enough to satisfy you?」
「More than enough. While that certainly was information I, as a headmistress, would rather not know, it’s terrifying to think of what could happen had I remained uninformed. And as you said, with your capabilities and Mistress Fiiyanamia behind you, it wouldn’t be an issue for you even if you were exposed.」
「I believe you should already understand, but please keep this between us.」
「Of course. I would never antagonize you if I had the choice.」

With our conversation having reached a good pause, I asked, 「Shall we continue?」 The headmistress replied, 「Sorry, of course,」 and so I proceeded without hesitation.

「Headmistress, do you have any interest in crafting sorceric tools?」
「Nope. I love seeing people who do their best to make better sorceric tools, but I wouldn’t make one myself. Well, I simply love cheering on individuals giving their best effort.」

As I thought, the headmistress appears to be uninvolved. While I can’t be fully certain, since sorceric tools use magic cores, people who don’t have interest in sorceric tools are unlikely to develop an alternative energy to replace magic cores. Besides, even if I try to lead her with questions hinting about the taboo, she probably won’t give a straightforward answer. Anyway, that should be enough for today, but it’d be dull to just end things here, so I decided to continue the conversation for a bit.

「Is that why you became an academy head?」
「This isn’t a position you can reach by simply wanting to be one, but that was the reason why I accepted the offer, yes. The more someone stakes their life on achieving their goals, the more I just want to cheer them on.」
「… Even if that said goal is revenge?」
「I would at least try to persuade against it for reasons of morality, and I would intervene if it’s unjustified; but depending on the circumstances, I’d cheer them on. Even if their motivation is revenge, I find people working towards their goals likable. For that reason, I find you likable as well. After all, to have gained such power at such a young age, you must have had experiences I can’t even fathom.」

I know fully well that I’m not the one to criticize, but it sounds like the headmistress has a quite peculiar sense of morality.
