It’s the third day of our campus life. For today, we have a course in Sorceric Tool Studies. The academy seems to put great importance on this subject, as it’s held in a large room capable of receiving a considerable number of students.
Though perhaps it was just assigned a large room due to the sheer number of enrollees.
With its size, it looks less like a school classroom and more like a university lecture hall.
By the time I entered the room, around half of the seats were already occupied, and many gazes were immediately directed to me upon entry. While we have been attracting eyes even in other classrooms, here I feel the most amount of stares yet.
This must be because there are overwhelmingly more male students here. It’s not like there aren’t any girls, but boys probably consist of around 80% of the students.
As such, we sat down some distance away from the male crowd.
Almost immediately after, we were approached by a familiar girl who asked, 「Can I sit next to you?」 By no means did she leave a good impression on our previous meeting, so did she approach us aware of that, or did she completely forget what happened?
While she didn’t leave a good impression, she was just annoyingly aggressive; as long as she can control herself, it’s all good.
「Feel free to do as you wish, Tietta.」
「Then if you’d excuse me.」
With that, Palra’s roommate Tietta sat next to me.
Let’s just say that this is better than having an unknown male student next to me. Still, what do I do if a boy tries to sit next to us in the future?
I can’t really think of any convincing reason to stop them from sitting down, but on the other hand, they might annoyingly try to initiate conversations; I already feel miserable imagining it. Well, I’ll think about it when it happens.
「I’m surprised you’re here, Ailneige. If I recall, weren’t you already an active hunter?」
「I’m just here out of curiosity. And I might be able to use what I learn here for my hunter work. Still, Tietta, you don’t specialize in sorceric tools either, do you?」
「Yeah. I want to focus on armor, or rather outfits. However, if I use accessory-styled sorceric tools to supplement protection, don’t you think it can provide more leeway for design freedom?」
「Perhaps it could.」
When speaking of sorceric tools hunters use, the magic pouch is the first to come to mind, but it’s not actually that accessible in reality. You can’t even acquire one without being a high-ranked hunter, so it’s only natural.
While accessory-type sorceric tools do exist, they’re apparently also quite expensive, so they probably aren’t really common to find among hunters either.
Still, we barely had the opportunity to be in a party, and joining one isn’t necessary for us, so my knowledge is only based on hearsay.
However, if there is a sorceric tool that can deploy a barrier, I believe it’ll probably be somewhat popular.
In that form, a barrier can be deployed immediately, and even people who can’t use sorcery can utilize it. The rear support can use it to guard against stray attacks and debris, while front-liners can hold one as an emergency precaution.
And if the barrier can remain active for a long time, then the user could probably go as far as to work in their pajamas. No, I guess that’ll depend on the potency of the barrier spell.
「So, Ailneige, you’re a hunter, right?」
「An E-rank hunter, but a hunter nonetheless.」
「Then do you use leather chest armor? A thick cloak? Hunters tend not to use heavy armor, right?」
「My equipment isn’t much different from the standard sorcerer hunter gear.」
Since we requested it to be designed that way.
「I guess it really is function over form, huh… Mobility and defense can’t really be neglected, but if you focus on those, your outfit will inevitably end up looking rough…」
In our case, we could probably do our hunter work in a fashionable dress, but I understand that this isn’t normal.
What we need from our equipment is not protective capability, but ease of movement… Well, that’s also important, but what we actually need the most is equipment that makes us look like a nondescript hunter. If anything ever bypasses my barrier, what we’re wearing probably wouldn’t make any difference anyway.
In a sense, we do value fashion like Tietta does, but we’re aiming in a completely different direction. Though if hunters had a status entry specifically for assessing fashion, we’d probably be fashionable just to fit in.
「Using powerful monster materials results in sturdy but light equipment, though.」
「That’d go against my purpose. Most importantly, I can’t handle those materials.」
「I’ve heard that you can wear chain mail under your clothes, so perhaps you could focus on adding protection where it can’t be seen?」
「That’s one way around it, huh. Then you might be able to wear fashionable clothes on top of it.」
That said, other people have probably already come up with the same idea. Chainmail specifically made for sorcerers has already been developed.
Still, it seems like something about this idea stood out to Tietta, as she’s currently groaning in deep contemplation.
「Don’t you ever wish you could style up more?」
「It’s hard to say; I prioritize survival, after all.」
『I do wish that you’d be more stylish, though.』
『Oh, but I am stylish when it comes to getting Ain adorable outfits, aren’t I? Besides, I also have more adorable clothes these days.』
『We did get dressed in a lot of clothes back at the manor.』
As I chatted with Ciel while keeping the mumbling Tietta in the corner of my eye, someone was approaching from the seat next to me, opposite of Tietta. Glancing that way, I see Belltina timidly sitting down, so I lightly wave my hand her way.
She got along with Palra, but Belltina probably has terrible compatibility with Tietta. Belltina’s eyes went wide open in surprise before she responded with a conservative wave.
While this transpired, the Sorceric Tool Studies teacher arrived.
And that ends this update! We have familiar faces once again, this time with Tietta, Palra’s roommate, and the now ever present Belltina. She really took a liking to Ailneige, it seems.
This chapter, we’re further introduced to Tietta, the aspiring clothes-maker (my brain can’t brain enough for the proper word). As revealed before, Tietta aims to make fashionable clothes for hunters, and so she’s joined the Sorceric Tools class to see if she can widen her options for clothing/armor defense fortification. Meanwhile, little Bell popped out of nowhere like she did before. It’s honestly a bit funny, lol.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
