Also, he actually started his introduction with a polite tone but then became strongly self-assertive in the middle. I guess he’s the type to be vastly different in formal and casual settings.
Also, during Ail’s introduction, he kept stealing glances at us. Though most of the boys did that as well. Just leave us be.
The elf accompanied by a thunder spirit is Siera Ho’go Venos Lafia. Based on elven naming conventions, she should have two spirits. In fact, there are actually two spirits near her.
One is a lesser fire spirit, while the other is the thunder spirit I previously saw. How she introduced herself gave off a prideful impression, which perhaps comes from the fact that she has two spirits.
All the elves I’ve seen until now only had one spirit with them, so there’s no doubt that she’s talented.
Though I have no idea what encompasses talent for spirit users. After all, spirits will probably do most things for me as long as I ask.
The above are the students who stood out during the entrance exam.
However, there is also one noble child that I was advised to remember during our review at Central.
Her name is Rynaetra Gaielston. Daughter of Marquis Gaielston, she has nearly black, dark brown hair and has a slender and tall figure. She was quite courteous in her introduction, but her sharp gaze was scanning everyone in the room.
The Gaielston family is a renowned military family in Ausente, having produced many royal knights and knight commanders in their lineage.
Because of that, I suspect that Rynaetra is either one of the princess’ attendants or a retainer candidate.
Though from appearance, she feels more like an expert maid than a female knight.
As everyone was done with introductions, Ms. Claura said, 「Alright everyone, it’s a pleasure to know you,」 and began to draw a schedule on the blackboard.
「Later this day, we will be holding the entrance party at the party hall. I’m sure you’ve been informed in advance, but we will lend formal party attires to those with none, so please remain here after this.
For those of you with your own outfits, change into them and head straight to the party hall where the dance exam was held. If you don’t know how to get there, feel free to check the map on the first floor of the dormitory or ask an academy staff for help.」
After writing down a summarized timetable for today’s events, Ms. Claura then explained the activities for the days after.
「Tomorrow, you will need to present the courses you wish to undertake, so make sure to decide before then.
For courses you can apply for, it should be written in one of the documents given during the dormitory assignment, so please refer to it when making your decision.
You can enroll in any course that you passed the prerequisites for, so make sure to read thoroughly. Every year, there are students who choose courses they aren’t qualified for, so this is just a precaution. There are also some who would choose courses that overlap in schedule, so watch out for that as well.
After submitting your course choices tomorrow, you are free to go, so please confirm the classrooms of your respective courses, among other things.
Lectures will begin the day after tomorrow.
During lecture days, make sure to arrive here before the fourth morning bell. Your attendance will be verified, and announcements may be made.
Once the fifth bell rings, the classes will begin…」
And so she elaborates on the class schedule, but since her explanation is tailored for commoners who don’t have–or can’t read–clocks, it was slightly difficult to understand.
From my interpretation, we need to be here by 8 am, and the first period starts from 9 to 10 am.
After that, we get a 30-minute break every one hour of class, lasting up to the fifth period.
Lunch break starts at 11:30 am and ends at 1 pm. The reason for the long 30-minute breaks is probably the travel time and distance between classrooms.
If unlucky, you might end up having to go from one end of the academy building to the other, and those with no stamina will likely use the whole 30 minutes.
The fifth period ends at 5 pm, and at 5:30 pm, we return to our homeroom before heading back to our respective dormitories.
Regarding the academy bell, it rings at the start and end of every period, so we’ll just have to be ready before then. Actually, there are clocks in the academy premises, so I think it’s probably better to learn how to read it instead.
Since we have a clock in our magic pouch, we can check the time frequently, so this isn’t too relevant for us.
We aren’t necessarily required to fill every gap in our schedule; we can even have a whole day without any classes or consolidate all of them in the morning period. However, we are still required to gather at our homeroom at the start and the end of the day, so there likely aren’t many who would do that.
You’re free to spend your leisure time any way you want. If you want to train, there are places where you can do so; if you want to have a tea party, there’s also a dedicated place for that. The academy also has a library where you can self-study.
And apparently, as long as you return on time, you’re even free to do hunter activities.
Additionally, classes generally only last an hour, but there are some that continue uninterrupted for 2-3 hours.
The more advanced lectures of the higher years tend to last that long, and the longer ones can even occupy the entire day’s schedule.
Still, as long as you don’t get greedy with your courses and focus on one thing, you should be able to have a comfortable academic life.
We do plan on undertaking all sorcery and hunter-related courses, so we might end up being a bit on the hectic side.
To begin with, the first semester for first years (there are two semesters per academic year, and we choose courses per semester) is configured so that the students can learn a wide array of courses, so I probably don’t need to worry much about that.
We’ll take every beginner sorcery and hunter course and just continue with the ones that catch our interest.
Well, nobles and others who already have prior education would probably skip to the intermediate course.
There are several that we can opt for the intermediate lectures instead, but for now, we intend to start from the beginner courses.
「Well then, let’s end it here for today. There’s still time before the party, but make sure to arrive in time, alright?」
With Ms. Claura’s orientation over with, our classmates slowly began to move about.
Well, the thunder sorcerer Alcrei and the elf Siera immediately sprang to action, though.
Since they were quick to move, I hope the others will follow suit.
After waiting for a while, Ciel was about to leave her seat when, 「Ailneige.」 a voice came from our seat neighbor.
Ciel, somewhat apathetically, replied, 「What is it?」 to which Palra answered, 「See you later.」 with a timid wave of the hand.
「Of course, see you later.」
After echoing Palra’s goodbye, Ciel finally left the classroom.
And that ends this chapter! It seems like we’re getting a party next chapter! And I’m personally happy to see Palra not disheartened! You can do it Palra, you can survive in the big city!
It was mostly explanations this time, but I did like how the schedule was explained in bell rings for the general populace. After all, that was the function of the big church bells back in the days (too tired to crosscheck, so please feel free to roast me if I’m wrong). Also, schedule conflicts, AVOID THEM. It’s fine nowadays with digital enrollment systems, though.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
