As everyone arrived, I scanned the classroom again. Most of them are unfamiliar faces, but as anticipated, the thunder sorcery boy was assigned here.
Just as I see him glaring at the sight of the hero boy, after stealing a glance at the princess, his frown deepens.
He seems to take pride in being a noble, so perhaps he’s gnawing his teeth because he can’t behave haughtily with someone of higher status than him around.
Frankly, though, the red-haired girl should be of high status as well, but his attention seems only occupied by the princess.
Other than them, there are no other familiar faces, but to be fair, the only other people I know are the kids who argued with us during the result publication. With that, it seems like everyone I thought would pass is pretty much gathered in this room.
Oh, and our homeroom teacher is Claura, who we are also acquainted with.
Considering that she’s quite young, maybe she was assigned as the homeroom teacher because we’re in this classroom?
She has previously witnessed Ailneige’s peculiarity, so perhaps they’re thinking that she wouldn’t be deceived by appearances or do anything funny.
Or perhaps, contrary to her appearance, she’s actually the sort of experienced teacher needed to consolidate this class.
「Alright everyone, congratulations on passing. From today onward, you are all students of the second academy.
I’m sure there’s still much to get used to, but try your best from tomorrow on so you can all properly graduate.」
While this is only our second time meeting her, these kinds of words are quite in character for her. Half of the students reacted with sincere agreement; meanwhile the others didn’t appear to share the sentiment.
The remaining half show varying degrees of indifference or mockery; they’re not a solid rock.
And this goes without saying, but Ciel is in the indifferent camp.
「While you might end up in different courses, there are times when we do activities as a class, so why don’t we introduce ourselves first?
Let’s start from the top… is what I’d like to say, but I guess I should go first.」
Saying so, she then took a white pen to the blackboard-ish surface and wrote her name, 「Claura.」
This world’s written language isn’t like kanji, where a single character can be read multiple ways, so is there a meaning behind her writing her name down?
「I am your homeroom teacher, Claura. I teach basic sorcery studies and hunter’s basic sorcery, so some of you may not encounter me, but nice to meet you.
Before I came to this academy, I was an active C-rank hunter, so I might have some interesting stories for those aspiring hunters-to-be.
In my hunter days, I specialized in the use of wind-based sorcery.」
『So she was a hunter in the past.』
『Her being a C-rank might be true as well.』
『I was wondering why you were playing with barriers, but that was actually Ain probing her, huh.』
It seems like Ciel noticed what I was doing. From the time Ms. Claura said she was a hunter, I wondered if she had the capacity to see through Ailneige’s true capabilities, so I tested her a bit. I did it by enveloping Ms. Claura with a barrier that is unnoticeable even for A-rank hunters, which I gradually lowered the concealment level of.
She was unresponsive even when it reached the B-rank noticeable threshold, so I suspected she’s likely around C-rank. Still, there are many A-rank people who can’t see through a C-rank hunter’s concealment, so it’s only a rough benchmark.
For this time, I just wanted to check her sensitivity to sorcery, and since she didn’t notice it at this level, then we’re not going to have any issues.
On the other hand, the spirit present must have noticed what I was doing, so as I did this, Lisyl went to hush her.
While I don’t think the spirit would really go out of their way to share what I did, I am grateful for the precaution.
Ms. Claura went to the end of the blackboard, and after touching its edge, the letters written on it immediately vanished.
Unlike the blackboards I know, erasure doesn’t result in things like chalk dust.
Hearing a portion of the class gasp in surprise, I guess she wrote her name in order to specifically explain this.
「Some of you may not know this, but we will be using this sorceric tool in our lessons, so please remember this.
Now then, let’s start the introductions from Princess Leshimiiya.」
「Understood. However, please exclude my title when within the academy premises, Professor Claura.」
「Ah, right, that’s true. Well then, Miss Leshimiiya, please take the floor.」
Princess Leshimiiya then stood up and faced us, her classmates. While doing so, I felt like she sent a glance in our direction, but regardless of whether Ciel noticed or not, she didn’t display any significant reaction.
Perhaps expecting this, the princess didn’t seem offended and simply introduced herself, 「I am Leshimiiya Ausente,」 in an accustomed manner.
◇◇◇
As the self-introductions continued on and passed over us, I think Ail managed to successfully keep a low profile.
After all, 「I’m Ailneige. I enrolled to learn about hunters and sorcery as a whole. Pleased to meet you.」 Ciel went with such an inoffensive introduction.
She got a grasp of what to say before her turn came, and I’ve had prior experience with class introductions, so we discussed what a safe introduction entails.
Thanks to this, I believe we managed to formulate a completely uninteresting, business-like introduction.
And as the last of the students introduced themselves, I now know who these previously familiar yet unknown impressionable individuals are.
First off, the red-haired and amber-eyed noble girl that was with Princess Leshimiiya is Rulinia Hausen. She’s the daughter of Duke Hausen, who, if I recall, has strong ties to the royal family.
This is probably why she is with the princess. Considering their age and status, they’re probably just a good fit.
Next is the Hero Job holder, Juerd. He’s not an aristocrat, so he has no family name. It seems like noble children include their family names while commoners only go with their given name–well, they probably just have no family name.
Juerd seems to have a strong sense of justice, and he even said, 「Feel free to ask if you need any help,」 like some shonen manga protagonist.
He apparently aspires to be a great hunter, and by how he immediately asked to be called 「Ju,」 he seems quite friendly, to say the least.
The thunder sorcery boy is Alcrei Tweisel, the son of Count Tweisel, who is considered to be anti-Central.
True to my initial impression, he’s the type to flaunt his power and influence, and his self-introduction was snobbish.
And that ends this chapter! Good bye again April, and hello May! It seems like we’re only having introductions today.
With Claura being the homeroom teacher and a sorcery specialist, she officially enters reoccurring character territory, yay! I do like how casually enthusiastic she is, I guess she really was just caught by surprise when she had to deal with our girls, lol. Also, the image of Ain and Ciel with false mustaches and in business suits on a meeting table saying “Hmm, oh yes” while brainstorming the most boring PR introduction cannot leave my head.
Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
