The second academy entrance exam felt rushed in general. However, it takes 6 days for the results to be released, so the examinees will have to stay at the Royal Capital in the meantime. It’s not a mandated rule, but only a few people have the luxury to choose to return to their home and then come back for a 6-day wait in this world.

We could probably return to Central and come back here for the results, but it would likely be a close shave. Moreover, if we were to do that, we would have to leave the same day we arrive home.

As such, many examinees remain in the capital.
Since there are places where you can stay over for cheap in this season, it seems that examinees rarely fail to make it for the result publication day.
Still, since they are already at the royal capital, there are many who would take this chance to have fun and shop around.

As a result, people gather at the Hunter Guild.
After all, it’s a place where one can earn money easily. For the guild staff here, this is an established annual event, and it only lasts from the entrance exam until the result publication, so they’re likely used to handling this much workload.
In the first place, 10 years old is the minimum registration age, and the people who aspire to be in the second academy tend to be capable of combat, so there isn’t any reason to turn them down.

I do vaguely recall the academy offering hunter-oriented courses, but if it’s only low-level monster subjugation or errands within the capital, there shouldn’t be any risk of them sustaining major injuries.
Besides, there are apparently requests to watch over and keep the examinees safe aimed towards veteran hunters during this period. The academy is likely aware of this trend as well.

Furthermore, academy examinees who register as hunters in this period are given special treatment for a limited time. If they want to be a proper hunter, they will have to undergo the registration exam again to determine their starting rank.
This part doesn’t really concern us.

Now, as for why I know so much about this, it’s because we went to the Hunter Guild—since we had free time—and there were so many people of our age there, so we asked the receptionist why this was.
While we were at it, we also sold the low-ranking herbs we had hoarded in our magic pouch, and we were thanked greatly.
Apparently, while no one has gotten seriously injured yet, there has been a general increase in injuries requiring treatment.

Also, considering how all the exchanges until now have been solely handled by Ciel, I feel really happy to see her growth.
Mia came along with us today, but her help hasn’t been needed so far. Though it was never Ciel who would ask for Mia’s help, but the receptionists interacting with her.

「You were at the entrance exam, weren’t you?」
「… Yes, why do you ask?」

After hearing the reason for there being mostly children around our age, we thought of seeing the available request when we were suddenly called.
Ciel didn’t seem to realize that she was being spoken to, resulting in her slightly delayed response.
Turning my eyes to the speaker, it was the high magic power boy. Following behind him were several boys and girls—there were more girls—and I presume that he wants to have Ciel join them.

「In that case, why don’t we team up? I’ve been a hunter for a while now, and there’s plenty I can teach you as well.

I’m sure it’s overwhelming here for your first time.」

Considering the boys and girls behind him, I’m sure he’s speaking with good intentions in mind.
While there may be hunters on the lookout, newbies are liable to blindly attempt requests and fail, and even those with offensive prowess might not do well for their first battle.
Turning to the receptionist, she nodded with a troubled expression, so it appears that him being a hunter for a while wasn’t a lie.

However, even for Ailneige, this proposition is nothing more than an unwelcome favor. Rather, doesn’t he see Mia right next to us?

「I’m a hunter as well, and I already have a party, so I’ll be declining.」
「I see. Right, you did deliver medicinal herbs earlier. If you’re fine with it, would you mind taking along people who aren’t good with combat? We’d be grateful if you could teach us how to identify and harvest herbs.」
「I already have my hands full protecting myself, so I can’t. Excuse me.」

Getting tired of dealing with him, Ciel quickly left the Hunter Guild. Seeing this, Mia followed behind.
They then headed straight to the capital gates.

As we passed through the gates, several people appeared to be tailing us. I figured that these must be hunters undertaking the lookout request, so we asked Mia to inform them that they can leave us be.
We took this roundabout method in order to hide the fact that Ailneige was the one who detected them and because they would likely be more easily convinced if an adult like Mia persuaded them.

In fact, because Mia was the one who went, the lookout people were persuaded quickly.

With that issue settled, I then asked Ciel, 『What shall we do?』
Thanks to the magic power boy, we ended up leaving without accepting any requests, so we have yet to decide on what to do. Ciel pondered for a bit before answering,『Let’s have a stroll in the forest. We’re only here to pass time, after all.』

It will also serve as training for Mia, so I didn’t object and simply watched over them.

「Lady Ail, what shall we be doing today?」
「I suppose we can go to the forest and harvest some herbs.」
「Are you sure?」
「We’re just passing time today, after all. It wouldn’t be bad to spend some time for your training.」
「Thank you very much.」

If you take herb searching seriously, it can be a form of sorcery training. Upon learning this, Mia has been proactive about searching for herbs together.
She could always do it by herself when she has free time, or so I thought, but apparently, she needs our presence as she finds it difficult to keep vigilant while searching.
Come to think of it, sensing plants rich in magic power is quite difficult. But once you can perform this with ease, you become capable of identifying where sorcery was cast from and if a magic circle is in operation.

「Speaking of which, was it really alright?」
「What do you mean?」
「The matter at the Hunter Guild.」
「Was there something wrong about it?」

Mia seems troubled by how Ciel genuinely couldn’t understand her intent.
Certainly, if Ciel had chosen to help, she could have made new acquaintances, if not possibly friends.

And that ends this part of the chapter! While there was a small interruption, the exposition managed to continue safely!

Jokes aside, it seems like this will be a slow chapter for both us readers and our cast. A 6-day wait with not much to do is quite long. I did enjoy knowing that the guild has to deal with the sudden surge of young teens wanting expendable cash to mess around in the big city. Honestly adorable. Also, high magic power boy sure did come and go in this part, lol.

Now then, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Please feel free to comment. Stay healthy, stay safe, and have a nice day~!
