I, Aylia Rütte Aindorf, feel compelled to record this with astonishment.

Just a few days ago, our city of Lüenheit was attacked by the Demon Lord’s army.
It has been just over a year since I was appointed by the Senate to govern Lüenheit, succeeding my father who passed away from illness.

Although we had kept the Demon Lord’s forces in mind as a threat, I never expected them to target a trade hub so suddenly. I assumed no demon would understand the strategic value of trade routes. That was my mistake, born of complacency.
And so, I—a mere novice—was utterly unprepared for the surprise assault.
The commander of the Demon Lord’s army was a werewolf with jet-black fur.

What I knew about werewolves was very limited:
That they transform into wolf-like creatures under a full moon and attack humans.
That only silver weapons can inflict effective damage.
And that they were supposedly wiped out by humans decades ago.
That was all.
But clearly, werewolves had not gone extinct, so my knowledge was useless. They appeared in broad daylight and swiftly subdued the city with terrifying strength.

Facing a creature said to devour humans, I resigned myself to death.
But the black-furred werewolf took the saber from my hands and said:

*“To prevent chaos, why don’t we strike a compromise?*

He promised there would be no needless slaughter and urged me to surrender.
I had no real choice in the matter.

Though his werewolf unit easily crushed Lüenheit’s elite city guards, surprisingly, only seven people died.
After disarming and treating the wounded, they truly did nothing further—just as he had promised.
I had braced myself for a mass execution to serve as a warning, so both the guards and I were left just as confused as we were relieved.

The Demon Lord’s Third Division’s deputy commander, Veit as he named himself, had an incredibly unusual approach to occupation.
He gathered all the city’s religious leaders and immediately declared freedom of faith. Everyone had feared forced conversions, so again, this brought great relief… and great confusion.
Why would they grant so much freedom? What could they gain?
But the people rejoiced. The larger the initial fear, the greater the relief. And that steadily began to turn into support…not for the Demon Lord’s army, but for Veit himself.

There were other strange behaviors, too. His troops never looted local stores. If they needed anything, they simply paid full price.
When they needed housing for their soldiers, I had considered offering vacant homes, but Veit instead called for sellers and bought the properties at generous prices.
I have never seen such a well-behaved occupying force. It’s nearly absurd.
The devastation my grandfather described during the Unification War of Miraldia was nothing like this.

Veit also understood that this was a trade city. He worked actively to maintain public order and even brought in demonfolk merchants to resume commerce.
At first, the traders were wary. But soon, they eagerly engaged in business.
The beastkin traders are honest, dependable, and bring rare, high-quality goods. There’s been no trouble at all.
It’s all very strange.

Still, I remain vigilant. He is a demon, a commander in the Demon Lord’s service. I must not forget that they rule this city through force.
Veit is rational, intelligent, and gentle. Perhaps he might even develop Lüenheit beyond what I could ever achieve.
But at the same time, I sense something immeasurable in him—something far beyond my reach.
I must stay on guard.

That’s what I keep telling myself, but as I watch Lüenheit grow peaceful under his rule, I feel my resolve begin to waver. Honestly, it feels like my job has become easier since the Demon Lord’s army arrived…
I find an odd sense of comfort in governing this city alongside Veit.
And that’s why I pray—desperately—that the Miraldia Alliance will liberate Lüenheit soon.

Before I become even more captivated by that black wolf.

Please.

Hurry.
