It was a rather random event, with various performers, traveling bards, singers, bands, and anything else related to music. But that made it look like a festival, something anyone could enjoy watching.

Time seemed to blaze by like that, and before they realized, it was late at night. By then, Iris made sure to keep her promise and began preparing something in the kitchen.

She was going to make fried rice for dinner. Most ingredients like vegetables were already cut and ready to use, so she just needed to pick what she needed to season and cook it together.

“Searing everything on high heat is the secret for the best flavor, but it only works if you have a powerful stove. Otherwise, it’s best to simmer everything on low heat instead.”

She clearly knew what she was doing as she prepared the fried rice. And when she was done, it came out really well too.

Once they were done eating, they went back to the TV, and continued watching until it was eight in the night. By then, it was time to get to work, so Iris went to the respective room, and Mira waited while keeping watch outside.

Iris’ powers required a lot of focus, so Mira had to leave her alone during that time.

(Well, no better time to check this.)

They had been too busy with the tour, dinner, and TV so far, but now that she finally had some time for herself, she brought out the booklet that Alma had given her, which detailed all of the hidden security mechanisms.

“Let’s see here…”

Mira summoned her sofa in front of Iris’ work room, and sat on it to read.

First, there were the security systems, of which Iris only knew about half.

The entrance notifications and alarms were only the beginning, as the whole area was also equipped to verify who was in which room. But for safety reasons, there were no offensive or retaliatory systems, everything was designed to detect intruders as soon as possible.

Iris did not know how most of them worked or where they were installed, she only knew what to do in case something irregular was detected.

(That makes sense, with her powers, the less she knows the better.)

Her powers as the oracle allowed her to read someone’s mind to a certain extent, with the downside that the deeper that she went, the more the target would also learn about her.

So to avoid leaking how everything worked, various parts of the booklet were marked as “Secret from Iris.”

(Still, this really is packed with all of the newest technology.)

There was also the fact that Alma was treating this as an experimental site, so plenty of the devices there were not yet commonly available outside.

All of that was followed by a different type of information.

That included what Iris liked and disliked, her usual sleep and wake up time, and so on. Alma’s overprotective tendencies were also evident there.

All of the secret systems set in place made the oracle’s room more like a trap-ridden dungeon. Because of that, Mira also felt like she was exploring a dungeon as she tried to get her bearings.

The fact that there were no lethal traps might give the impression that it was not too bad, but everything was under such heavy surveillance that sneaking in undetected would be nigh impossible without the aid of someone like Worthramble.

On the other hand, if multiple units blindly stormed the place en masse, they would overwhelm the systems and some would make it through.

The traps would only serve to buy some time.

That was why Mira was there as a bodyguard, to stop that from happening. Her role was to protect Iris from any such blind suicide attack, and fully stop any intruders.

(Now…I wonder how they’ll react.)

Mira stashed away the booklet in her Item Box and glanced at the door of Iris’ work room.

They were expecting that August would learn about their plans once Iris used her powers to check what he was doing.

The most important part of that was obviously enough, the new bodyguard.

Before her, Iris’ bodyguard had been Noin the White Vault, one of Nirvana’s powerful Twelve Apostles.

No one had been able to bust through his defences, and there were plenty of stories from those who tried. He was largely known as the most powerful paladin of the whole continent.

Sadly, his protection had been rendered largely useless after August’s efforts to fight against the oracle’s abilities.

Now Iris had gained a phobia towards men. He would know for certain that his plan had worked, and that Mira was the new bodyguard to make up for that.

Alma had also made sure to make it seem like the bodyguard switch happened in a hurry.

Basically, she had talked to Iris as if she was trying to keep calm while clearly being disconcerted about the whole affair.

Her hope was for Iris to think it was a serious issue, but that they had just barely managed to find someone to keep her safe.

After all, August could only learn what Iris saw and believed, not the actual truth. And once he learned everything Iris had experienced, he would decide this was a good time to attack.

Nirvana’s undefeated hero was being replaced by a young adventurer girl whose power had gained popularity recently.

Since she was still considered an up-and-coming adventurer, even if she was strong, no one would expect her to stack up to a seasoned veteran. And given how the switch was done in a hurry, that would also make it easier to underestimate her.

But the truth was different.

That girl who had started to gain popularity was just a disguise for one of the Nine Wisemen, who were considered on par with the Twelve Apostles. Not only that, but she was the same person who had once shattered Noin’s ego.

(I’ll just have to catch whoever they send so that Kagura can get information out of them.)

Mira began setting up her own lookouts, using the location of the devices already present as reference, while Iris was busy doing her own work.
