‘I hate this feeling—!’ Zane was launched into the air again by a brutal wave of force, and that was the thought running through his mind as he soared.

“Emberveil got sent flying again?” Endless Sea exclaimed in disbelief.
“Don’t just stand there! Catch her!” Shiu shouted urgently.
“O-oh!” Endless Sea snapped to attention and ran forward, only to suddenly hesitate. ‘Wait a minute. Emberveil is currently in a female avatar. Would catching her count as taking advantage?’

And then…

“Mmgh—!”

Zane crashed past him with perfect precision, missing entirely, and slammed right into YoyoPink.

“Oof.”

‘That hurt… or not? It feels oddly soft. In fact, it’s surprisingly comfortable. Was the ground always this cushy? Could it be Invoke: Mire? No, there’s no damp sensation. It’s soft… bouncy… like two round cushions… Wait a second…!’

A horrifying realization struck Zane. With deliberate caution, he reached behind to press into the two soft mounds, and pushed up.

“Ahhh—!!”

Using the recoil, Zane sprang to his feet. As for what the truth was? That could wait. The priority now was returning to assist Starry, her health was dangerously low!

Shiu was frozen in disbelief. ‘This guy… How could he look so calm after that?’

“Who just screamed?” Endless Sea asked, puzzled.
“…Go help fight the boss, would you?” Shiu replied, exasperated.
“Right! Hang on, Stardust! I’m on my way!”

The moment the freezing failed, the skeletal steed finished charging its energy. It raised its skull high, then unleashed the orb.

Fwoosh!

The pitch-black energy sphere radiated terrifying elemental pressure. This strike was no weaker than Darkcleave! It couldn’t be taken head-on!

The skeletal horse was huge, at least 1.5 meters tall, so Starry dropped low and narrowly dodged the attack. Of course, she hadn’t moved after it launched. That kind of reflex was impossible with her current movement speed.

It had been a preemptive dodge. Even though Zane wasn’t controlling her directly, the battle instincts from her experiences had been transferred. He understood a bit of what real combat required.

The Death Knight narrowed his eyes in surprise. ‘This human… is different.’

“Anru!” Fia cried out in anger, then quickly softened her tone. “You mustn’t harm them. These brave adventurers have already slain three squads of ghouls… we can’t let their efforts be in vain!”

“Hah.” As if he’d heard something laughable, the Death Knight swung his blade without warning.

Starry scrambled to dodge. ‘Hey! If you’re going to talk, then talk properly! Why are you swinging at me mid-conversation!?’

“When Saintbloom Village fell, where was your so-called aid?” The Death Knight slashed again, fury burning in his voice.

Miss!

Starry barely evaded the blow.

“And now these so-called adventurers kill a few ghouls and think they’ve done something noble? Will Saintbloom rise from the dead because of it?” His voice was cold, heavy with scorn. As if growing tired of Starry’s evasions, Anruta let the deathly aura around him flare with intensity.

Charge!

‘Oh no!’ Starry was cornered, with nowhere left to dodge!

Invoke: Blazing Fire!

A column of flame roared up in front of her, forming a barrier of fire. But the danger didn’t end there. The flames were not solid, they had no physical presence! Vines and frost had no effect on him, and Mire couldn’t slow down movement skills either.

‘What now? Is this it? Are we going to lose a level here?’

“Don’t panic, Stardust! Watch this!” Endless Sea leapt through the air, vaulting over a crumbling wall and landing squarely in front of Starry.

Guardian Shield!

At the same time, the Death Knight burst through the wall of fire. Because of his sheer momentum, the flames only struck him once.

-859

It dealt nearly a thousand damage! Unfortunately, it only triggered once.

Endless Sea had full confidence in his 3000+ HP. At this stage of the game, even fully invested Knights rarely exceeded 2000 HP. With Guardian Shield active, blocking a single charge should’ve been a walk in the park.

What he failed to account for was that charge damage while mounted was doubled.

-2744

In an instant, his HP dropped to just 12%.

“Good thing I—” he started to say, but before he could finish, the Death Knight frowned and followed up with another slash.

-589

This time, Endless Sea was killed outright and sent back to the city. Starry used the moment to leap away from her position.

“Anru…” Fia murmured.

“Don’t call me that!” the Death Knight roared. “I am now a noble Death Knight. And you? You’re just a pitiful wraith. If I wish, your broken soul will vanish from this world.”

Fia lowered her head, quietly sobbing.

“Damn it…” Zane gritted his teeth. ‘Sea had been one-shotted. With Starry’s real self not present, there’s no hope of winning this fight.’

Clang!

The sound of a mace clashing with a sword rang out.

“Wishkeeper! What are you hesitating for!” Lordsey’s booming voice snapped Zane back to his senses.

He’d zoned out… during a fight, no less!

‘Right. This isn’t the time to worry about other things. No matter if Starry is here or not, I have to give it my all!’

Invoke: Mire!

The cracked soil moistened and softened in an instant, turning into a thick mud pit. This time, the skeleton steed was caught, the rooting effect landed!

“Damn it!” the Death Knight cursed, then used his momentum to vault off the steed, leaping free of the bog.

Lordsey stood his ground with mace in hand, ready to meet him head-on.

“A goblin dares defy the undead?!” Anruta growled, then laughed in disbelief. “Very well. You’ll be the first to pay for your ignorance!”

A pitch-black energy swelled along his blade. Unlike the previous Darkcleave, this attack engulfed the entire sword in crackling, destructive power. The oppressive aura weighed down on everyone, this had to be Death Coil! And it came with a suppression effect too!

‘Not good! This has to be interrupted!’

But there were no skills left on cooldown. Charging in now would be suicide.

Flameburst!

Blistering fire magic surged forward, raising the ambient temperature, but the Death Knight ignored it entirely.

-349

It was too late. The cast had already finished. Lordsey was in danger. And yet, he showed no fear. Calmly, he tossed a bomb at his feet.

“Hmph. You dare use such childish tricks against the undead?” Anruta scoffed, raising his sword to strike.

BOOM!!!!

-526

Though its power had been scaled down, the bomb still packed a punch! The force of the blast knocked Anruta backward a few steps. The dark energy coating his blade dispersed.

“That was amazing! Go Lordsey!” YoyoPink shouted, still flushed but clearly cheering with all her heart.

“…” The Death Knight said nothing now. But his fury was palpable.

Death Coil had been interrupted. What would come next… Charge? Darkcleave? Or a simple brute-force slash?

Lordsey basked in the praise, clearly pleased. He knew exactly how his master thought. Riding the momentum, he unleashed Fivefold Throw to keep the pressure on.

To help Lordsey perform better in extended battles, YoyoPink had packed his inventory full of stones and bombs before leaving town. In other words, he was lugging around a whole bag of junk materials.

Bombs were basic tools crafted by Level 1 Engineers, also sold in general stores, very handy for situations like this.

The stones flew in unison, arranged in a tight triangle formation. Fifteen sharp-edged stones, launched with tremendous force, rained down on the Death Knight.
