When we stopped the carriage and got off, Sir Cloud took my hand to help me down.

(Oh, my! Sir Cloud is quite the gentleman! I feel like a real lady right now!)

Feeling a bit fancy, I too tried to act a bit more classy.

When his wife saw me, she asked, “Who is she?” I planned to greet her like a proper lady.

However, I didn’t know what was the proper way to perform a Western-style greeting. I figured I could just lift up my skirt or something, but, in the end, I decided to fall back on Japanese business etiquette. Stand tall, cross your hands neatly before you, make eye contact, introduce yourself, and bow politely.

I thought doing so made me look rather elegant.

Sir Cloud’s wife gave me a warm smile and introduced herself in return.

“Nice to meet you, I’m Sonia Cloud, Howard’s wife. It’s lovely to meet you, Susie. What a sweet young girl you are.”

That soft smile made me so happy! But the sweet young girl’s comment took me aback. I couldn’t believe they were still treating me as a child.

But that’s when it hit me! I had no one with whom to compare myself until now. but doing so now made me realize that I was short, like really. Sure, Sir Cloud was tall, so he wasn’t the ideal person to base it on, but my eyeline was level with Miss Sonia’s chest. She was more than 10 centimeters taller than me.

As I stood there, smiling and trying to feel as ladylike as possible, Miss Sonia suddenly hurried over with a concerned look after Sir Cloud said that I was his benefactor.

(I told him it was no big deal, sheesh.)

I thought, smiling even more, but just then—my stomach growled once again.

(Y-You! Not once, but twice you betray your master?!)

It was true that a delicious aroma had filled my nose and made my mouth water the moment I’d gotten close to the residence, but I’d done my best to hold it in! But my stomach! I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it! Or where those thundering sounds came from!

Here I’d been trying to act all proper, and now everything was down the drain!

To make things worse, I’d only just met Miss Sonia, and now my stomach was giving me away, tearing down my ladylike mask instantly! The embarrassment was overwhelming; I could barely lift my head.

As I shook with shame, I heard a burst of laughter nearby—

(Sir Cloud?! I can’t believe you! How could you?! You know full well that I’ve been starving! And yet you laugh like that! I feel like crying… I’ll really do it, you know?! Here I go, I’m crying!!!)

Seeing my embarrassment, Miss Sonia came over and gently wiped my face.

(No! Her clean apron will get all dirty…)

But before I could even start crying, she wiped my face with care.

(Miss Sonia is so kind!)

In the end, they even let me take a bath to freshen up. A bath was truly a blessing! I’d washed up here and there since arriving, but this was my first real bath, and I couldn’t help feeling a bit excited.

When I got to the bathroom, a woman named Elrose was busy preparing the tub.

Elrose had a sturdy build compared to the slender Miss Sonia. And I didn’t mean she was heavy, but just strong and well put together. She gave off a comforting presence. She was maybe a little taller than Miss Sonia, with black hair streaked with gray, and tied up into a tight bun. She looked a bit older than Miss Sonia as well, most likely somewhere in the sixties.

Miss Sonia left me with Elrose, saying she’d go fetch a change of clothes.

Elrose sized me up quickly, hands on her hips, and after looking at me from head to toe she huffed, raised her hands high up, and lunged at me.

I was stripped down completely in a matter of seconds. I barely had time to feel surprised or embarrassed before she scooped me up and set me into the tub.

The tub was only half full, just enough to cover up to my stomach, yet it was surprisingly relaxing. Warm water was suddenly poured over my head, and it felt so good that I couldn’t hold back and let out a long moan.

I swear that I heard Elrose chuckling to herself at that moment.

After she lathered my hair with shampoo and scrubbed me all over with a giant sponge. Without batting an eye, she washed everything—leaving me squeaky clean and slightly in awe.

Rather, I was the one that was feeling embarrassed. Elrose seemed completely unfazed as if she was completely used to giving children baths. It made me wonder if she viewed me as a kid too.

While she rinsed the soap from my body, Miss Sonia returned with a change of clothes.

“Thank you, Elrose. I’ll get her dressed; you can start getting dinner ready.” Miss Sonia said as she wrapped me in a towel, and with a polite bow, Elrose promptly left.

Miss Sonia then helped me wrap the towel around myself and handed me some tools. At first, I thought one of them looked like a hair dryer, and amazingly, it was a hair dryer!

Once my hair was mostly dry, I started putting on the underwear Miss Sonia had brought—a pair of pink, striped panties.

I couldn’t help but feel a little shy about dressing in front of her, but I managed nonetheless. The bra I was given was more like a sports bra, stretchy and fitted comfortably.

“It looks like they fit you perfectly. I guess they’d fit, but I’m glad I got your sizes right.” Miss Sonia said with a pleased smile.

The dress she gave me was a lovely pale blue one-piece that she quickly slipped on me. It had a simple round neckline with no collar, trimmed with a white line, and an open neckline, where she tied a neat little bowline knot at the front.

Miss Sonia then guided me to the mirror and gently began brushing my hair.

(Come to think of it, this is the first time I’m having my hair brushed.)

It felt nice, but looking at my own reflection just made me feel all flustered.

Miss Sonia, on the other hand, seemed in such a cheerful mood. She was happily brushing my hair, but her focused expression only made me feel more embarrassed.

She finished by tying my hair with a lovely light blue ribbon, adding a final touch to my polished appearance.

“All… ready… Sorry… have… you… wait…”

Once I was ready, Miss Sonia led me to the dining room, where she quickly apologized to Sir Cloud for the wait. He looked at me in surprise, taking in my transformation.

I knew I must look different, but his astonished gaze made me a little self-conscious!

As Elrose showed me to my seat, I caught sight of the spread on the table—and wow! The aroma of roasted bird seasoned with fragrant spices, quickly assaulted my nose and was enough to make my mouth water instantly.

(Careful! Drool warning! Anyone nearby should be extremely careful and not go near the mouth!)

I couldn’t help but lean my body in.

Once Sir Cloud gave permission with a nod, Elrose carved a portion of the bird and placed it on my plate.

The moment the bird was cut open, the aroma of roasted vegetables and fresh herbs filled the air, quickly assaulting my nose and spreading throughout my other senses.

It almost made me feel dizzy. From the side, one could probably see the whites of my eyes showing.

I cut out a big piece and brought it up to my mouth with the fork.

(Can I really eat this? They won’t tell me to suddenly stop, will they? Right?!)

I thought while looking at Sir Cloud. As I did, I saw him give me a big, encouraging nod.

(Really?! I’m digging in then! I‘m so stuffing myself!)

(…………… SO GOOD!!! How juicy! How tasty! Mh, mh, mh!!! THIS IS DELICIOUS!!! The juices are just, mhhh… They are coating my entire mouth! This taste is just divine!!! This potato puree-like thing is amazing as well! And it has the perfect amount of salt!!! I never knew food could taste so divine!!! My hands, my mouth, they refuse to stop! It’s so delicious I feel like I might die. I’m about to burst out in tears… This is so good!)

I couldn’t stop myself as I stuffed my mouth with tears running down my face. I’d never eaten something this delicious. I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I couldn’t help but let it all out.

Miss Sonia and Elrose took care of everything, doting on me like I was their child. And I just felt so happy that I didn’t feel like stopping them.

Every time Miss Sonia wiped away my happy tears or brushed off stray crumbs, I felt just how strong of a mother energy she was giving. From that moment on, I even began referring her to as Mama Sonia in my head.

And the tea that Elrose brewed was just heavenly.

I’d completely forgotten that tea existed in this world up until this moment. I was in a blissful daze; the warmth of the tea made the meal feel complete, filling me with contentment.

As I lingered in that happy after-meal glow, Sir Cloud recounted the day’s events to Miss Sonia and Elrose.

When they heard about me taking down the wolf, they looked at me wide-eyed in amazement. I wanted to brush it off by saying that it was all thanks to Sir Cloud’s sword being there, but I felt a bit proud of it. Then Sir Cloud mentioned we’d be going to the temple next.

(We’re leaving Miss Sonia and Elrose? But I just got to know them… What? We’ll be back in no time. Then it’s fine. Huh? Deer? Venison steak? Really?! I want one! Ah! Miss Sonia called me a glutton… It seems like Elrose does view me as a growing child as well! Still, it’s so nice to share a meal with everyone like this. It’s not only delicious but fun as well! I can’t wait for dinner! I also can’t wait for that deer! This kind of thing isn’t all that bad.)
