“I’m starving!” I shouted.

I was walking away from where the orc village had been, thinking now would be a good time to wash up, so I headed west to take a dip in the river.

And if you were wondering, I was now wearing underwear.

This was mostly because I felt regretful that I’d accidentally lured the orcs with my scent.

“Still, this is not even 10 kilometers away from the edge of the forest. It’s dangerous to have such a vile colony this close to human settlements, right? I guess I’ll look around in the area before heading to the human village.”

In truth, I was just making excuses not to go.

“At any rate, securing food is still one of my major issues… Now that I think about it, those orcs looked like they handled their food quite well. Though I don’t know what kind of animals those were, they looked like deer, or were they boars? There were also fish… Don’t get the wrong idea! I’d never take anything from those filthy maggots, even if it was prepared well!”

“Huh? Wait… Fish? FISH! If it’s fish, I don’t need to skin it or cut it up! Why didn’t I think of this earlier?! With fish, I can just grill them as they are! I’m so stupid! I’ve been camping near running water all this time, and I never thought of fish once! I really am an idiot. God, I feel so stupid right now. I must get to the river fast and catch me some fish. It’s river fish we’re talking about! If I only had some salt, it’d be perfect, but I can do without it! Yippee! A fish party! Let’s go!”

Filled with a great sense of joy, I was just about to begin running when I felt something. I quickly lifted up my right hand, still holding one of my swords, and moved it behind my back, where something clashed with the sword’s blade at high speed.

“Again?!”

It was a swarm of Bread Beetles.

“Who called ya here?!” I tried saying it in a broken pirate accent.

“Are they trying to pay me back for yesterday? Were the ones from yesterday part of a mafia or something? Where did they find this many friends to bring with them?! And how did they find me? Stalker much? You won’t be popular with the ladies like this! Damn, there are over 500 of them!”

With a cry that was somewhere between a complaint and a scream, I slashed down one flying beetle after another.

Their initial velocity easily exceeded 500 meters per second. The Bread Beetles came at me like a barrage of machine-gun bullets, bursting through the air faster than the speed of sound.

With my left-hand sword in a reverse grip, I sliced through them one after another. Metallic sounds rang out as the blade left shimmering afterimages in the air.

“Why do I have to deal with this again… And why is there no end to them?! Good grief! I just want to fish! Damn it! I’ll just send you flying with a skill… No… Wait…”

I was less than 10 kilometers away from the human village. If I unleashed a skill here, I could cause massive damage to the surrounding forest.

There were currently over 500 beetles here. If I were to wipe them out all at once, I’d have to use much more power than what I did yesterday.

(This is bad!!! I can’t afford to use skills!)

Although I’d just burned down an orc village not that long ago, it was fine since no one would care about the orcs either way1.

“This is such a pain! Do I really have to take them all down one by one?! What’s with these working conditions?! This is such a hassle. Ah, screw it. I’ll do it! No… wait! What if I use that?”

I muttered, remembering there was a skill I could use.

“Die, die, die!”

Skill Name The World of Fear
Class Enchantment Channeler
Effects Instill deep fear into enemies weaker than the caster, forcing them to flee over a wide area.

The air around me shifted instantly, freezing with tension. Fear poured out of me like a flood. It felt as though a dark aura erupted from my body, spreading rapidly in all directions.

The forest shook violently as the fear surged through it. The beetles began to flee from me as fast as they could.

“Wahahahaha! Did you see that?! That’s all me! This is how you resolve matters peacefully! I managed to get the enemy to flee without having to harm Mother Nature! Wahahaha! Huh? W-Wait a minute! Why are you running that far away?! You’re running too much! Huh? Why are even the Mobs 5 kilometers away running2?! Huh? This is bad! Ah! It’s coming! It’s about to come out of the forest! It’s coming!!!”

I knew that my phrasing seemed oddly inappropriate, but I didn’t have time to dwell on that.

I was in a panic, you see. If this kept going, there would be a massive flood of Mobs rushing straight into the human village. It’d be a full-blown stampede! There could even be casualties!

This was bad, like really bad!

In a frantic rush, I sprinted south, desperately trying to destroy all the Mobs I had set off.

“My fiiiish!!!” I cried as I ran.
