At around 8 o’clock in the morning, a man wearing expensive clothes was standing in front of his own inn. The man’s name was Uruto Lastman and he was currently waiting for a woman.
A short time later, a single woman, who was also wearing an expensive dress, emerged from the inn “Hikari”. That woman’s name was Parasuna Nervan.
“Sorry, did you wait long?”
“No, I just came here.”
“…That’s a lie, didn’t you leave the inn 10 minutes earlier than me? I’m sorry for keeping you waiting.”
“Nah, it’s fine… Shall we go?”
“Yeah.”
This is a story of two SSS-Rankers that happened after the end of the war.
Uruto and Parasuna headed towards the playhouse.
“It’s been two months since we went somewhere with just the two of us, right? What do you think about my dress, does it suit me?”
“It does, very much so. I mean, we did choose it together some time ago, didn’t we?”
“Eh-heh-heh, you remembered.”
“Well, yeah.”
They walked with their hands linked together like lovers.
Parasuna usually wore a hood to hide her rabbit ears, but on this day, she didn’t bother hiding them. Furthermore, she used magic to disguise herself, so, other than Uruto and some of the people who knew her, she appeared like an ordinary rabbit beastfolk.
Uruto on the other hand, wasn’t wearing any kind of disguise. If the regulars of the “Hikari” inn saw that scene, they’d probably recognize her as the proprietor’s lover. If the people who knew that Uruto was Lastman saw it, they’d probably assume that he was on a date with Parasuna. Furthermore, for people who didn’t belong to the two categories mentioned above, they’d simply see them as normies.
Still, inwardly, this day was completely different from what was normal for Uruto. He was acting a bit suspiciously, but Parasua still hadn’t noticed that.
As they talked about what happened at their work, they arrived at the playhouse.
“Two tickets please for today’s play,” Uruto told the lady at the counter.
He paid the receptionist for the two tickets and then went into the playhouse with Parasuna.
“We’ve come here a bit too early, didn’t we?” she commented. “It’s still empty.”
“You’re right… If we’re too close to the stage, it’ll be hard to see, so… how about we sit in the fourth or fifth row from the front?”
“Let’s do that.”
The two of them sat down in seats five rows from the stage. They chatted for a while, but then, maybe because it was time, the playhouse’s interior gradually grew darker. Spurred on by that, Uruto gently placed his hand on top of Parasuna’s head.
“…What are you doing?”
“Well… I thought I could… pat your head1.”
“…You’re weird, Uruto. Did you eat something strange?”
“Wouldn’t that make you weird, too, Parasuna? We ate the same food.”
“Hm… Well, alright. But remove your hand once I have enough, will you?”
“Alright.”
After that, the play began. The one that was currently presented was a love story.
The daughter of a wealthy merchant fell in love with the son of a nobleman, which normally shouldn’t cause too many issues due to the difference in status. But as a matter of fact, the son did have his own problems; he was attracted to men. Still, in the end, the noble’s son ended up falling in love with the merchant’s daughter “as a person”, and they got married2.
There was also a scene where they kissed at the very end. It was currently right before said kiss scene, but Uruto was still patting Parasuna’s head. She leaned against his shoulder and lightly nuzzled against his head.
“Oh, we’re almost at the kiss that people talk so much about,” she commented.
“You’re right…”
“Would you mind taking your hand of my head?”
“Not at all.”
Uruto did as he had been asked and drew back his hand. At the same moment, she closed one of her eyes fully and the other halfway, turned her face towards him and pushed out her lips just slightly.
“…What are you doing?”
“Can’t you see that? It’s a trend among female adventurers to kiss their boyfriends during this kiss scene. You are my boyfriend, aren’t you, Uruto?”
“Oh, I did hear about that… Alright.”
The play moved onto said kiss scene. And with it, Uruto and Parasuna shared a kiss. Of course, it wasn’t only the two of them, it was almost only couples who came to see this play.
“Heh-heh-heh, how many times did we kiss with this?”
“…Just this week, it was 11 times.”
“Oh my, you say that as if you don’t like it?”
“That’s not it.”
They switched from holding hands to linking their arms together this time and left the playhouse. Afterwards, they ate a sandwich at a specialized sandwich store that had been officially endorsed by Alim3, and enjoyed their date fully, by going around and shopping in the city’s stores. Finally, at 6 pm, evening fell.
“Ah~, today was quite enjoyable! It was a lot of fun, right?”
“That’s true. Erm, I made a reservation at a restaurant, but would you prefer not to go?”
“Since you already made a reservation, we have to go there, don’t we? Where is it?”
“Over there.”
Uruto was pointing his finger ahead, at the best restaurant in this country.
“Ah, there. That super fancy restaurant. That’s fine. Should we go there quickly?”
“Yep.”
“With this time included, how often did we go there together again?”
“Around three times, I guess.”
The two of them went towards the restaurant.
TL notes:
So, we get a story about Uruto and Parasuna going on a date, which should have given the author the opportunity to write a more mature relationship compared to what we have with Alim and Mika, but instead we get pretty much the same. I guess these are limitations that one has as a writer, so it’s not really my place to criticize, seeing how uncreative I am, but it’s still somewhat grating.
This will only get more noticeable once the relationships of the other protagonists in Yggdrasil progress.
