I was wandering around town, still with the beastfolk girl on my back. Maybe because it was weird in the culture of this world to carry slaves on one’s back, the people around me looked at me with gazes, as if they were observing a curiosity, but I decided not to give a damn about it.
For now, I gotta find an inn.
I need a place to stay the night. For at least three days. And durin’ that time, I gotta find a job, even a temporary one would be fine… Then get my life in order and rent a house. That’s probably my first objective.
While rushing all over town, I discovered an inn. I had found others earlier, but all of them looked expensive, so they wouldn’t do.
From how this one looks, I guess that the money I currently have is probably enough to stay for three nights.
I pushed open the door, where “Inel Inn” was written on a board. The clanging sound of a bell resounded.
“Please come in,” a middle-aged man who was standing behind the counter greeted me.
As for its interior… I dunno for sure, but for now, it looks neither good nor bad, I guess?
I walked up to the counter and asked the man there.
“Erm… excuse me, Sir, I’d like to stay the night, do you have any vacancies?”
“Yes, we have. We have rooms ranging from B- to S-Class. What kind of room would you like?”
Judgin’ by the order, B is likely the cheapest. I’m worried about the price.
“How much does a B-Class room cost per night?”
“It’s 450 bells. Breakfast and dinner included.”
450 bells, or 4500 yen. If it’s like this, I can also stay for five nights, can’t I? That’ll leave me with 5250 bells1.
Good, five nights it is… Wait, there’s the girl, too. In that case, I gotta rent two rooms. Then it’s three nights, after all.
“In that case, I’d like two rooms for…”
“Please excuse the question, but that girl on your back is a slave, isn’t she?”
“Y-Yes…”
“In that case, would you prefer a shared room?”
Nah, that one probably only has one bed. Besides, I can see lots of issues. Moral ones, that is.
“Erm, if I did that, wouldn’t it only have one bed…?”
“…Huh? Why is that an issue? If that’s what’s bothering you, we can provide you with a mattress and blankets.”
…I knew it. So that’s how slaves are treated usually. If even inns look at slaves like this, the ones who feel pity for ’em must really be a minority.
Besides, am I stupid or what? If I ain’t use the same room as her, I can’t look after her. I just kept thinkin’ about morals, I forgot that part.
In that case…
“T-Then, what about a room with two beds?”
“…Basically, most customers who stay here for the night are by themselves, so this inn only provides two such rooms… Unfortunately, both of them are occupied.”
“I… see.”
Then it can’t be helped. I’ll take the B-Class room for three nights, after all.
“Then, could I stay in a B-Class room for 5 nights, Sir?”
“Certainly… erm, do you require the mattress and blankets? I forgot to mention this, but they will cost an additional 50 bells per day.”
“Yes, I’m good with that. Oh, could I also pay in advance?”
I think that payin’ in advance is better. In case somethin’ happens to me… If I end up losin’ all my money in a shakedown, for example, and can no longer pay the inn fee, it’d be tough.
“Yes, that’s fine. The total will be 2500 bells.”
I took out three large silver coins from my pocket and gave them to the man. He gave me back the change of five silver coins. After that, he got out from the counter, showed me to the room, and then gave me a key, blankets, and a futon that looked a bit dirty, but clearly had been washed. As for the room… it was a bit cramped for an inn, though that was all.
I lowered the girl onto the bed and covered her with a blanket. Then, I checked her pulse and breathing once more, and made sure she didn’t have a fever.
She’s fine, looks like there’s no issues. In that case, she probably collapsed due to exhaustion and hunger. Also, since the coachman said she immediately threw up any food, she likely has some eatin’ disorder. That usually happens ’cause of stress or dietin’, but… the girl’s probably the former.
An eatin’ disorder, or anorexia, since she’s this skinny. In that case, I gotta consider what food to give her. If such people eat too much at once, it apparently often turns into overeatin’. So, rather than have her eat by herself, I better stay with her and talk to her while she’s eatin’.
She likely also needs mental care. But I ain’t got no clue about that.
Can I manage that while workin’? …But I gotta do it. I just have to, right?
Also… that’s right, I gotta buy clothing for us… and foodstuff. I’m worried about leavin’ her alone, but… can’t be helped.
TL notes:
And we’re back with Shuu, who seems to know quite a bit more about eating disorders than you’d expect of a high-school student. The author mentioned in chapter 212-2 that they did some research about eating disorders before writing these chapters, but I have no idea how accurate it is.
