“Honestly, we can’t ignore the possibility that the evil god has already been resurrected and is simply hiding, either. We should keep all those options in mind.”
“Woof, that’s true!”

Kanata managed to wrap things up nicely after some consideration. He’d probably had all these possibilities in mind already.
That one of them…

“Woof, that leaves the question what we are supposed to do if the evil god revives over there, where we can’t use our abilities and stats to fight back.”
“Did you think of something, Rir?”
“No, that’s not what I meant. I just have something personal I’d like to ask Shuu. It doesn’t concern this conversation.”
“Me? What’s up?”

Indeed, there was the option where the evil god came back to life on Earth and wreaked havoc. Kanata had theorized that skills might become available at such a moment, but there was no guarantee. If they did, we could fight normally using Item Master to prevent casualties, damages, and the public finding out about it (especially our identities). The problem was if they didn’t.

If we were stuck with only a few skills available – none of them magic – the situation might be hopeless. Kanata’s impression of fighting Surtr one on one when Shuu had been possessed, was that a nuke wouldn’t have been enough. Well, they would still cause damage, so if fired in rapid succession, a victory might be possible, but that would devastate Japan. In other words, we’d all die.

That would simply be meaningless.

“If a scenario where all hope is lost came to pass… would you be willing to die with me?”
“What? Uhm… well, ‘course I would. Honestly, I wasn’t thinkin’ of dyin’ or anythin’, but we’ll at least be together until the end.”
“Woof~…”

Rir seemed awfully happy.

“What about us, Ayumu?” Mika jumped on the bandwagon, pressing me.
“That’s obvious. I’d hate to be the one to survive if you died… It’d would make me want to die, too. Well, the best would be if we both lived on together.”
“Eh-heh-heh, that’s true!”

From an outside perspective, it probably seemed as if we had a carefree discussion about world-ending scenarios, but at the end of the day we each wanted to save the people close to us. The ideal was still to solve this without a single casualty, though.

“Hah… Somehow, even if we’re trying to have a serious conversation, it always turns to our relationships…”
“Right. But how does it actually look, Kanata? I know you’d struggle until the very end, but what if things really fell apart?”

Sakura seemed curious about my brother’s estimation, after seeing the other two couples’ happy reactions. She looked serious when she asked her question.

“Oh… I’ll save you, Sakura, no matter what it takes.”
“Uhm…”
“Is what I’d like to say, but I can tell you wouldn’t be happy about that. My answer is the same as those of the others; let’s stick together until the end, alright?”
“Yeah…!”

The serious atmosphere instantly changed into one of affection. If love really saved the world, then how often had it happened already?

“Woof, in any case, sorry for bringing that up! Did you have something else you wanted to discuss?” Rir apologized shortly later after coming back to her senses.
“Nothing in particular. We can only see what happens when we’re back on Earth.”
“Hm~, if you ask me, the resurrection already happened, but for some reason, nothing else occurred… or rather, the evil god doesn’t feel like doing something.”
“If you say so, Big Sis, it might be true, which is scary by itself.”

Mika’s eerily accurate intuition. If she was right, then things might stay peaceful for some time.

“In any case, everythin’ depends on our skills. To put it bluntly, if the evil god appears on Earth and we can use ’em, it’ll be easy to save the world. And if we can’t, we might as well give up.”
“Yes, it’s rather straightforward.”

It was. Everything boiled down to whether we could use our skills when our enemy appeared. According to Kanata’s theory, since Earth and Anazumu were starting to overlap, it was possible that magic became useable the moment the evil god appeared. We could only hope that he was correct.

“From now on, we should stay in close contact and if the man wearing the black hood appears, we ask him the questions we worked out today. Let’s keep that in mind no matter what we do.”
“””Yes!”””

Now, will the evil god even show up? I have a feeling it’s going to happen. But I’d rather have it sooner than later… Right, I better ask Mika what her gut says.

“Hey, Mika, when do you think the evil god is going to show up?”
“A few days before our exams, I guess.”
“Meaning next week, huh…”

Well, it would certainly convenient if she was right, since that week wouldn’t overlap with the finale of Shuu’s tournament.
