“Good work! From what I can tell, you’ll be unmatched at the prefectural tournament, too!”
“You think so, Instructor?”
Training was over for the day. Things were going great since we won the regional tournament in both the team and individual competitions. Even the teachers complimented us when they passed by.
“Oh, that reminds me, Fún. Could I ask you something?”
“What is it?”
“Do you prefer meat or fish?”
“Definitely meat! Absolutely!” the girl who was originally a wolfkin replied excitedly.
“Meat, huh… Alright, then at the prefectural… no, make that the provincial tournament and beyond. I’ll treat whoever performs well, be that individual or group fights, to Yakiniku! And if anyone manages to win the individual competition at the national tournament, he can bring any club member of his choice. I’ll treat them, too.”
“Whoa~~!?”
“Seriously!? Seriously!?”
It might have been limited to just a few people, but Gorilla Sensei was still quite generous. Even if it was the all-you-can-eat variant for 2500 yen, if all five of us managed good results at the provincial tournament, that’d cost him 12’500 yen.
Hang on, what was that other part…?
“Gorilla Sensei, do you think I’ll win the national tournament?” I asked him.
“You will, if you want me to treat Fún, too!”
“…Yessir!”
Nothin’ else to do, I’ll have to win the national tournament. Can I do it…? Guess I gotta work hard.
“Anyway, it’s getting dark, so take care on your way back home, you two,” Gorilla Sensei told us. “Still, I guess they’d need to bring a whole army platoon to take you down, Hino.”
“I ain’t that strong. Still, thanks, Instructor!”
“Thank you very much!”
Rir and I left the school. Our surroundings were dim. It was a nice atmosphere for walking home together as a couple. Like something that should be experienced in one’s youth.
“Please don’t overdo it, will you, Shuu?”
“I won’t, but I’ll make sure you’ll get to eat as much meat as you want. Paid by Gorilla Sensei.”
“Woof, thank you!”
She was about to hug my arm… but then stopped herself. It looked like she couldn’t shake her conviction that she smelled bad. Thus, I forcibly pulled her close.
“Woof, the smell!”
“Mine?”
“No, your smell is fine, Shuu. I’m talking about me.”
“You’re a super pretty girl, so I don’t mind.”
“Woof~…!” She turned red.
I didn’t get why a little praise made her blush that much after all that adult stuff we did in Anazumu… though it was awfully cute.
“S-Sorry, I’m still a bit sweaty.”
“I don’t mind.”
She hugged my arm. At this point, I was already used to feeling her soft breasts on my arm… not. No matter how much time passed, that never seemed to happen.
“Huh!?”
She suddenly seemed to notice something and looked back.
“What’s wrong, Rir?”
“Just now, it felt like there was someone there.”
She was staring fixedly at a single point. Likely realizing he had been found out, a suspicious man wearing a black hood appeared.
“…I didn’t think you’d notice me.”
“Why are you-”
“What’s this about? Do you want somethin’?” I demanded, stepping forward and interrupting Rir.
Somehow, it seemed like the hooded man was smiling.
“Huh, you’re Shuu, aren’t you? I remember you.”
“…So?”
“You were already manly as a child, but now you resemble a battle-hardened warrior. You’ve grown tall.”
“What!?”
Rir and I exchanged a momentary glance. If my guess was correct, then this was the guy connected to Anazumu whom Kanata mentioned.
“…Who are you?”
“You want to know my identity? I won’t tell. Let me ask in exchange; is that girl from Anazumu?”
“…Woof.”
Rir gave a twitch. I positioned myself so she was slightly behind me and could flee if necessary.
“What, I’m not trying to eat you… I see, you’re probably from one of the tribes. It is rare for someone from Anazumu to come to Earth. You might even be the first. That hair color, your keen perception1, and your sharp senses… you’re a wolfkin, aren’t you?”
“…Wh-What if I am?”
“Hrm, sounds like I hit the mark. I was just guessing.”
What the hell is it with this guy? Is he here to harm us or not? Ugh, this is frustrating.
“Just what the hell is it with you?
“Hrm, this isn’t the time for you to know. You might find out when we meet again… At any rate, Shuu…”
The hodded man was staring at me… or so it felt.
“Wh-What now…?”
“It feels like you went through terrible hardship. Was there a time when you experienced burning rage?”
“…What?”
“It’s fine if you don’t remember. Farewell, for now.”
The hooded man vanished in a way that should have been physically impossible.
“What the hell was that about?”
“…Who knows. More importantly, you don’t have to make sure I can escape. We’re in this together if something happens. Rather, I should be the one to act as bait to allow you a chance for escape…”
“Rir, it’s a man’s job to protect the woman dear to him.”
“Shuu…”
She, once more, blushed adorably.
