In a certain room of the mansion.
Indeed, it was a good thing I made this place in the basement to use things that might be… dangerous. Well, I ended up barely utilizing it and considered repurposing it for risky activities with Mika. In that regard, the room could now finally fulfill its purpose.
For now, I threw Mr. Mitsuo’s pinky in an area fenced off by iron bars. I took the lives of thousands of magic beasts, but I couldn’t get used to human remains.
Next, I prepared some Amrita. It was thanks to this marvelous substance that we were here right now, so I did consider it something truly divine… which reminded me that I had yet to supply Kanata and co. with divine grade equipment.
We’d be in trouble if an enemy on par with an evil god appeared, which they had to face… and they then ended up dead because their weapons were too weak, so I should make equipment for those four sometime tomorrow.
I threw an Amrita bottle into the jail. Its contents hit the cut-off finger without incident, and the resurrection started.
Something rapidly grew from the digit’s cross-section. It was messy… well, not exactly graphic, but for someone who rarely read gory and grotesque manga, it was repulsive. Anyway, that description didn’t really do reality justice.
…I wonder if it looked like that with Rir. Should I apologize for asking Mika and Sakura to take care of that part?
Still, seeing a girl naked as a man was a total no-go. Back then, I had no idea how gruesome it would look1, so letting Shuu – Rir’s boyfriend – watch the spectacle might have been a mistake.
Mr. Mitsuo’s resurrection was over fairly quickly. I was prepared for it, but he came back naked, as feared. Luckily, I managed to avoid looking at his member… For the time being, I put some clothes on him with Dark Matter Creation.
Yep, the only person I want to be around naked is Mika.
I had no desire to see others unclothed… Well, looking at someone as perfect as Shuu from an artistic standpoint was another story.
“Good morning,” I called out somewhat loudly.
The middle-aged dandy in the latter half of his forties opened his eyes.
“A-Ah, where am I?”
“In the basement of my house.”
“I see… I was executed, wasn’t I?” he mumbled dejectedly while scanning his surroundings.
Did it feel bad to come back to life after being put to death?
“I owe you my thanks, Miss Alim.”
“Not at all, it was a promise. I understand very well how much you want to return to Earth.”
Mr. Mitsuo was rubbing his neck. Could it be they decapitated him? A frightening thought.
“So, do you wish to return right away, or would you like to eat Anazumu’s cuisine one final time before you leave?”
“…You’re correct, I’d like to return quickly, but eating food from this world one last time would be nice. Could I ask you for that?”
“Of course.”
Cooking each part normally would take too long, so I created everything, including tableware and beverages, with Item Master and brought it out.
“Is this steak made from dragon meat?”
“Yes, the salad is also made from a plant-type monster. And there’s more.”
First, the dragon steak was something you’d never be able to eat on Earth… though the taste was probably close to crocodile meat.
Hang on, crocodile is supposed to taste like chicken, so that comparison won’t work.
“It is rather delicious…”
“That’s good to hear.”
That was a rather curt reaction. Though it was likely unavoidable, given his situation. Mr. Mitsuo ate all the meat (apart from dragon, there were other magic beasts I used as ingredients, too) and vegetable dishes in the blink of an eye and put down the tableware with a “thank you for this delicious meal”.
“Any last things on your mind?”
“Nothing that I could… no, there is one,” he replied, apparently having recalled something.
“What is it?”
“My skills… it won’t be possible for me to keep both ‘Contract Domain’ and ‘Vaporization’, will it? I was wondering… will my skills be lost once I return to Earth?”
“Yes, they will disappear2.”
He was likely talking about Forced Contract and what allowed him to turn into smoke. Those hadn’t been perks of becoming a demon.
“Since your power concerns items, Miss Alim, uhm… this isn’t meant as an apology, but if there is a way to extract those skills, which should be situated among or above the stronger SS-Rank skills, with an item, would you take them?”
Forced Contract certainly was in a completely different league than lower-end SS-Rank skills. Even I could make good use of it. Should I turn it into a skill card?
“Understood. In that case… use these items to turn the skills into cards. After I hand them to you, put them against your forehead and transfer both skills to them.”
“So, it is possible… Alright.”
He took the empty cards from me and then extracted his skills like I told him. After he gave the two fresh skill cards back to me and I verified the contents, the contained skills were indeed named as he had mentioned earlier.
“I confirm that the skills have been extracted.”
“…Then I have nothing left. Will you let me return home?”
“Yes.”
I brought out the Jizou statue and had Mr. Mitsuo touch it like last time.
“So… apparently, I will be sent home in a few seconds. If… if all goes well, could you come visit the Love Long circus troupe? If our tent is close to where you live, that is…”
Indeed, this man used to be the leader of one of Japan’s leading circus troupes.
If they are performing nearby, let’s pay them a visit.
“I will come together with people dear to me. I can’t exactly put it into writing… but I promise. If I see you, Mr. Mitsuo, I’ll shout ‘How did it go in Anazumu?'”
“Ah-ha-ha, that’s fine. So, I will keep the memories of what happened here?”
“Yes.”
His body started to disappear. It looked like the transfer went off without a hitch. He never raised his Reincarnation count, so he could no longer return to Anazumu… probably.
“One last thing, could you tell me your name on Earth?”
“I am called Joujou Ayumu.”
“Joujou Ayumu… I see. I won’t forget it. Then… goodbye.”
With one last smile, he disappeared completely. Only the dark iron bars and the Jizou statue remained.
Let’s go back to my room and make out with Mika.
TL notes:
We’re starting volume 19 by finally, after not seeing the man for around 380 chapters, sending the clown back to Earth. It will be interesting to see if he arrives back when he disappeared originally (around two months before the start of the story, if I remember correctly), or at the point where Alim & the other’s Earth-selves are currently.
Now, I said that volume 19 will focus on the guide, but judging from the chapter titles, this will only be in the last third of its 43 chapters and 8 side stories. I’d like to say that the preceding two thirds won’t be the same filler we enjoyed in volume 18, but the titles don’t give me much hope. My motivation to translate this has been on its all-time low for a few weeks now, so the possibility of a hiatus has sadly increased.
Footnotes:
- Didn’t he observe it well enough when he brought back the Golden Rose Queen Dragon. Someone who’s supposedly in a top high school should be able to extrapolate from that.
- How does he know? All he should know from his own experience is that some skills might work on Earth and some won’t. There was never anything mentioned about skills disappearing.
