“…Hm, I mostly get it.”

Pops and Mom had asked Rir various things, told her about their jobs, and then gave her the rules for living in our house. As a matter of fact, there were quite a few aspects of her life on Earth that I didn’t know.

“So… next, could you tell us why you wanted to come to Japan?”
“Yes… uhm…”
“If talking formally gives you trouble, you don’t have to force yourself. It’s rare for children to talk that way with their parents.”
“Y-Yes… I mean, yeah!”

My parents, who had already heard from her about her troubles with polite speech, quickly told her to speak more informally.
Hm~, as expected, Rir easily passed the screenin’ process to live with us. Pops and Mom are amazin’, after all.

“A-As for the reason I wanted to come to Japan… I-I originally studied a lot about the language and customs… I did, but when I took a trip here for the first time with the money I saved up… I was rescued by Shuu…”

Obviously neither Pops, Mom, nor I had any memories of me saving her in the past. This part had likely been fabricated when she came to Earth.

“U-Uhm… and it happened again when I was here for the second time¹. I was saved by Shuu once more… and… I-I developed feelings for him…”
“So, you’re saying that you came here to pursue a relationship with our son.”

Rir nodded at Pops’ summarization.

“I didn’t expect you to come here to be at Shuu’s side, but…” Mom commented.
“Hrm. I see, so that’s the official reason,” Pops concluded.
“Uhm… yes, well…”
“Shuu already told us the most important parts. And that you’re from another world,” Pops said seriously.

On that note, I had informed Rir in advance that my parents knew about her being an inhabitant of Anazumu.

“I-It’s true. Just as you say.”
“So, how did you get to know each other?” Mom cut in.

I had clearly inherited my habit of poking fun at others’ relationships from her.

“Well… about that.”

Rir shot me a glance. I met her eyes.

“I’ve told you about some parts before, but let’s go over it once more,” I said.

Mom was showing a huge grin. After we had finished our account for the most part, said grin had turned even scarier.

“In other words, Rir, you really were rescued by our son and fell in love with him.”
“Th-That’s true, but that isn’t to say that I wouldn’t have developed feelings for him if he hadn’t saved me…”

…Again, having her tell my parents why she fell in love with me made me feel bashful.

“Hrm. So, what do you think about our son? He didn’t cause you any trouble, did he?”
“H-He didn’t! If anything, I was the one who made it hard for him.” Rir vigorously shook her head with her eyes wide open.
“Is that so? Well, if there are issues, just tell us.”
“Y-Yes. I-I think it’ll work out, though!”

Mom was giving me a pointed look.
Nah, it’ll be fine, I’ll make sure to look after Rir!

“Then, is it safe to assume that the two of you are dating?”

At Mom’s question, Rir and I glanced at each other again. She looked up at me with moist eyes.
W-Way too cute… No, that ain’t it, I gotta reply quickly.

“”Yes, we are in a relationship,”” we replied practically in unison.

We hadn’t planned to reply together… that was just a coincidence, but it might have made it look as if we went out of our way to appear like we’re madly in love.

“Alright. From what you told us, Rir, we understand what you think of our son. Still, Shuu, will you be able to take care of her?”

Pops turned the question on me with his arms crossed. He was getting rather intimidating.
This feels as if I’m meetin’ Rir’s parents and tell them “please give your daughter to me.” I gotta reply truthfully.

“I-I will try my best.”
“You’ll try your best? ‘Try’?”
“I’ll be there for her… always!”

Gah.

I ended up running my mouth with her right next to me for the second time today. I looked at everyone’s faces. Mom’s grin was unchanged, while Pops had a scary smile on his face. As for Rir… she was looking at me with an enraptured expression.

“Alright, then. As long as you don’t go too far, we won’t come between the two of you. However, Shuu.”
“Y-Yes?”

Pops stared at me so hard, it felt as if his gaze was boring holes in me.

“If I catch you getting violent, forcing yourself on her, or getting her pregnant before you’re both 18, I will deal with you like I would with any common criminal².”
“…R-Right!”

When I gave my choked reply, Pops smiled at me with some of the scowl leaving his expression.
That shocked me. Scary.

“Well, as I said before, I have no objections to you being in a relationship,” Pops concluded.
“Same for me,” Mom added. “While Shuu was popular since he was little, I’m glad that he finally found a girlfriend.”

My parents had given their approval.
Phew, with this, I should be free to live together with Rir in this world.

“Rir, I’ll hope you’ll have me, even in the future,” I said, while extending my hand to her in some embarrassment.

1. Hang on, isn’t she supposed to be an orphan? How is an underage orphan able to afford not one, but two private trips from Europe to Japan?
2. I get the first two, but even with contraceptives, there’s no 100% guarantee of preventing it. Seems harsh to treat him like a criminal for that. Also, would a pregnancy carry over to the other world or be limited to one side?
