…I went back to our room with Rir.

“Are you alright?”

She nodded vigorously while still crying. I rubbed her back.

“Did somethin’ happen? During that one hour.”
“No… *sniffle*… that’s not it. Uhm… I was just so happy to see you again.”

She was so happy to see me, she burst into tears? Is she so dependent on me, she gets into such a state after a single hour? Nah… it shouldn’t be nearly that bad.

“Before that one hour over there, we’ve been together all the time.”
“Th-That’s true, but… that’s not it! I-I’m not sure, h-how to explain…”

It seemed like she was desperately trying to tell me something, but couldn’t speak well due to all the sobs and hiccups.

“For now… I’ll wait until you’ve settled down. Just tell me once you’re calm, alright.”
“Yeah. U-Uhm… Shuu. I-”
“It’s fine. You can do whatever you want in this room.”
“Woof!”

From how she looked at me with her arms stretched out, I had already guessed what she wanted, so I gave her permission before she could ask. As predicted, she pulled me into an embrace.

Her chest is just as always… not somethin’ I should say out loud right now. Well, can’t be helped.

“I love you…”
“Same here.”

After five minutes had passed, she stopped crying, raised her head while holding on to me, and looked at me. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she appeared like an abandoned puppy.

“*Sob*… th-thank you. Uhm… if we had met on Earth, would we-”
“Obviously, our relationship would be the same.”
“Woof!”

Recently, for some reason I’ve gotten better at predictin’ what she’ll say.

While showing a truly joyful smile, she hugged me once more strongly. I patted her head. Her tail was also wildly swishing left and right.

“…Hm. I’ve calmed down,” she said, seemingly satisfied.
“Gotcha. So, will you tell me what happened?”
“Yeah, I will.” She let go of me and sat down normally. “First… Over there, I’m apparently someone who originally grew up on Earth.”
“I see.”

Well, the possibility of that was high. Having someone pop up randomly and then go to live in a city without any issues, like Ayumu in this world, would be practically impossible on Earth.

“My name is the same; Rir Fún. I’m sixteen.”
“What about your gender?”
“M-My gender? Female, obviously.”

She made a confused expression, but cases like Ayumu turning into Alim existed.
Sounds like my girlfriend is a proper girl over there, too.

“Then… the moment I arrived on Earth, I heard the message of a… I guess you could call it a god.”

Like it was for us here. So, gods exist on Earth, after all.

“It said that they would inject memories into me. They had apparently been prepared, since a personal history is important to live on Earth. Then, that fabricated past poured into me.”
“I-I see.”

Is it so easy to fabricate a whole life story? Well, for gods it might be.

“So, what is your past on Earth?”
“Where to start-”

It took around 50 minutes for her to tell me about her fabricated past.

From what she told me, over there… Rir was an orphan, too. She already knew how to recognize Japanese people by our facial characteristics, so she realized that the orphanage, where her Earth persona lived, was somewhere else entirely. She said that she remembered many of the other children and serious looking adults there having blonde hair, light skin, and blue eyes.

Furthermore, the setting for her Earth persona was, that she was very interested in Japan and had learned a ton about the country. Even though she had been sent to a foreign country by the World Transfer, she had a decent grasp of the Japanese language. And the reason for her strong interest in Japan… was me.

Through a series of strange events, I ended up saving her when she was on a trip there. And not just once, but twice. As a result, she developed a huge crush on me (she blushed when she told me that) and resolved herself to move to Japan. That was the reason, once she returned and saw me again, for her to declare her l-love to me… and start crying since she was so happy.

Well, that was more or less a summarization of the most important parts. As a matter of fact, she told me in detail about her life at the orphanage and going to school in the country where she ended up.

“Woof, that was all,” she said, while rubbing her tired eyes.
“Gotcha… By the way, Rir.”
“Woof… what is it?”

She never told me what country her Earth persona lived in, only that it was different from ours, so I wanted to get the details.

“The country where you ended up… what’s its name?”
“Huh, right. I always just called it a foreign country since I was so focused on going to Japan… It’s called Norway1.”
“…What!?”

N-Norway…? I-I mean, I had a kind of feelin’. Nah, that’s a stretch. Still, a 16-year-old orphan girl… who speaks Japanese… from Norway…!

“R-Rir!” I impulsively grabbed her shoulders.
“Woof! What’s wrong!?”
“Did your Earth version apply to a ‘Japanese homestay program for foreign orphans’!?”

When I shouted that, her eyes snapped open.

“Woof, I remember doing that, but why do you know that, Shuu?”
“Right… ’bout that… Back on Earth, the girl I talked with my Mom about whether to take in is from Norway and-”

Before I could finish, Rir threw herself at me. She started crying again.

TL notes:
Something else to consider about Rir’s experience on Earth, though it’s hard to say if the author realized it: there’s an eight-hour difference between Norway and Japan, so what was 6:30 am for Alim & co. was 10:30 pm for Rir. Ending up in a (possibly) dark room with no one around likely only added to her disorientation.

  1. Oh geez, whoever could have predicted that?
