“So, Shuu actually found a girlfriend! Right, speaking of it, how did it go for you, Ayumu, Mika, and Kanata, Sakura?” Mom spoke up. With a frightening grin.

Yep… seeing we only told them how we reunited, she is probably curious about how our relationships progressed.
Mom used to tease us even worse than Shuu, when it came to Mika and me.

Mika and I alternated gazes.

“E-erm… a-about Mika… a-and me. Uhm… we are now dating!” I stammered.
“We are…”

My face… and ears feel hot…!

I knew from the moment we found out that we could go back home, that I’d have to break this news, but I didn’t expect it to happen so soon.

“Well… well, well, well…!”

Mom and Dad seemed happy. Mika’s parents were also smiling.

From what Kanata had told me, Mika’s parents knew about her strange behavior during those two weeks after I died. On that note, Mom and Dad apparently noticed that she kept sneaking into my room. Or rather, no one among the two families would say anything about her sneaking into my room. Since it happened all the time.

“Then, what about you, Kanata?” Mom turned her gaze on my brother, the grin never leaving her face.

He turned red up to the tips of his ears. From an outside perspective, I probably looked the same.
A moment later, he turned to Mika’s parents, seemingly having resolved himself, and suddenly put his arms around Sakura’s shoulders…

“As… as you can see, we have also started dating!”
“We… we have.”

Was grabbing her really necessary?
This question crossed my mind, but then I remembered Kanata always acting that way (although only with Sakura) and decided to keep that comment to myself.

Mom and Dad never stopped grinning. On the contrary, Mika’s parents had now joined in, too. They even exchanged comments like “Please take care of our daughters” and “One of our boys is a good-for-nothing who plays video games all the time, while the other never grew out of his edgy phase, but if you don’t mind…”!

“So, since when have you been dating?”
“…Let’s hear it.”

Even Shuu’s parents are now jumping on the bandwagon…!? And Shuu himself is showing his usual grin, too. Damn him!

“For Mika and me… if happened after we found each other again…”
“For Sakura and me, it was on a normal day, when the timing was right…”

Ugh… so embarrassing.

I shot a glance at Mika. She looked happy, but also embarrassed, in a cute, bashful way.

“…Now, I learned most of what I was curious about. I’ll ask my son about the rest. I guess, we’ll be heading home,” Shuu’s old man said, as he stood up.

His wife followed suit. And finally, Shuu, who still hadn’t dropped his grin.

“I’ll see you two couples tomorrow… Ah, thanks for your hospitality,” he commented, as he quickly bowed his head.

The rest of the Hino family also bowed their heads while murmuring their thanks, before leaving the house.

“Then we’ll also…”
“Ah, could you wait a moment…?”

When Mika’s father was about to stand up, his wife stopped him. Seemingly having guessed what she was going for, he sat down again with a “right”.

“Uhm… could we borrow Ayumu and Kanata for a bit, so we can talk to them in another room?”

What in the world do they want to talk about?

My parents looked at each other before agreeing to the request of Mika’s father.

“That’s fine. In exchange, could we also have a word with your daughters?”
“Of course. Then… let’s have our talk upstairs.”

Never waiting for our consent, Mika’s parents stood up and left the living room, leaving Kanata and me with no choice but to follow.

We were in my room. Mika’s parents were staring at us with awfully serious expressions, while sitting on the floor.

“Yes.”
“…You were the one who restored Sakura’s eyesight, weren’t you? Moreover, you kept her safe, like you always did.”
“Well… as for her eyes… that was mostly her own power. And I’m not sure if I did a great job protecting her…” Kanata replied while scratching his cheek bashfully.

Mika’s mother suddenly grabbed his free hand.

“Thank you… Thank you so much. Her eyes… we always hoped to find a way to heal them… and you always kept her safe while she could barely see anything.”
“Eh… ah-ha-ha… well. That was only natural. I care for her.”

Mika’s parents broke into smiles at the words “I care for her”.

“Indeed… that’s true. Thank you. She always did have feelings for you, Kanata… We hope you keep up your good relationship.”
“Of course,” he immediately replied with a composed expression. But it looked like just a bit of embarrassment remained.

“Next… Ayumu.”
“Y-Yes.”

Oh~… what will they say? My face probably looks tense and rigid.
What should I do if they said something like “Do you think we’d give our daughter to some boy who’s into cross-dressing?”. It’s the truth, so I wouldn’t even be able to protest.

“…Be honest, is Mika good enough for you?” Mika’s father asked me rather apologetically.
“Huh!?”

What does he mean by “Is Mika good enough”?

“…Mika… To be honest, she always was way too obsessed with you, Ayumu… You probably heard about those two weeks, after you died.”
“Yes, I did. The others told me. But, uhm… I love her. No matter what might happen to her, I feel that way. This won’t change.”

…Gah. W-What am I doing, spouting these lines. It certainly is how I feel, but… well, those are my true thoughts!

Mika’s mother took my hand, just like she had done with Kanata.

“Please take care of her.”
“Yes, I will make her happy.”

H-Hang on, what did I just-

“Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Did you hear that? We might see our grandchildren’s faces soon enough.”
“You’re right! Ah… that was all we wanted to talk about.”
“No, we’re grateful for your time,” Kanata told them.

The adults stood up while laughing. Kanata and I also hurriedly got up and followed them down to the first floor, where they linked up with Mika and Sakura.

The Magarigis then returned to their home. Mika, especially, looked overjoyed.

TL notes:
As mentioned before, no names for the adults. Alim either thinks of those other than his own parents as “mother/father/parents of…” or “aunt/uncle”. I replaced the latter with the former in several places to make it clearer who he is talking about.
