“What… w-w-w-what are you saying, Kanata? We… w-w-we’re trying to u-u-u-u-use the Black God? Of… o-o-of course, we don’t…! To start with, he is an evil god, right? How would we even use him, right, Dace?”

Loukis had been horribly shaken by Kanata’s words. The king had the tendency to lose himself in emotions, whenever something unexpected happened. Kanata understood this. The doubts the boy held turned into clear suspicion.

Dace, who the king had called out to, sighed and then came to his aid.

“He’s right, Kanata. Won’t you stop acting this spitefully?”
“…Yes, it’s true. My apologies.”

When he heard her words, Kanata obediently backed down with a grin. It seemed as if the seeress had saved Loukis, but Kanata, who harbored various suspicions and had never trusted the king from the start, now finally identified him as his enemy and was about to corner him.

“However…”
“W-What, is there more!?”
“Indeed. The Black God is inside Gungnir, is that correct?”
“Yes, he is…”

After that confirmation, Loukis started to fear what the boy might ask him next.

“Good, in that case, would you mind entrusting it to me? As a matter of fact, while I never told you about it, I am able to move things to a different place thanks to one of my skills, you see. I will either sink it to the bottom of the ocean or shoot it far up into the air… into outer space1.”

As he explained that, Kanata turned to the two and held out his hand.

“N-No, I can’t give it to you…” With a dumbfounded look, Loukis was trying to object to this plan. “Help me out here, Dace!”
“Indeed. To begin with, what are you planning to do once you’ve sent it to the ocean floor or this so-called outer space2? It won’t change that the Black God will come back to life.”

“The Black God… he’s more of less a living being, isn’t he?” Kanata replied to their complaints. “Similar to magic beasts, right?”
“That’s… that true, I guess?”
“In that case, if I send him to the bottom of the ocean, the water pressure should kill him. That’s not something you can prevent with magical defenses3. Furthermore, if I send him as far into outer space as my MP allows, he shouldn’t be able to return here. That’s how it is. Either option will render the Black God powerless… Please give Gungnir to me.”

As he spoke, Kanata, once more, held out his hand and took a step towards Loukis. No one around them, except for Dace, was about to move. The king, in a last-ditch effort, objected again in broken speech.

“That… that is probably information… from where you used to live… but this world is different…”
“No, this world seems to function the same way. The general concept of gravity exists, and you can prove the existence of outer space by the fact there are stars4. The place I’m talking about exists in this world, too.”

Kanata closed in on Loukis by another step. The king was unable to object. In his stead, Dace spoke to the boy.

“I’m sorry, Kanata. Little old me never saw a future where you did such a horrid thing.”
“…From the start, the accuracy of your predictions, though you call yourself a seeress, was rather low, wasn’t it? They’re unreliable. The fact that you didn’t predict anything about Shuu is especially damning. To begin with-”

Kanata, possibly since he was nervous, took a deep breath and then continued.

“To begin with, if you never predicted me making this suggestion, then how do you know its outcome? Furthermore, there’s almost no precedent about the Black God’s resurrection, right? If there is no precedent, then we have to try. If it proves impossible, I will retrieve the spear with my skill, and we’ll seal the Black God normally.”

Kanata smiled at the two. Both of them fell completely silent.
During that interval, the boy asked Shuu something via message.

[Shuu, Shuu!]
[Huh!? W-What’s up? You got a plan?]
[Well, I’m just talking hypotheticals here, you see? Shuu, what should we do, if it becomes impossible for us to go back to Japan?]
[I thought ’bout that recently,] Shuu instantly replied. [I also wondered if that king can even send us home… So, if he can’t, I was plannin’ to stay at Rir’s side. We got tons of money, too… Though I guess that’d mean I won’t be able to repay my parent’s kindness, makin’ me a thankless son…]
[Understood. The king will probably bring it up, soon. When he does, I’ll-]

Kanata explained what he was about to do. After pondering that for a bit, Shuu gave an answer. It was the one Kanata had been expecting.

Finally, the boy cut off his communication with Shuu and looked at Loukis’ face. The king had been in poor spirits for some time, but now he started grinning, raised his face, and bluntly addressed the boy.

…Or rather, he tried to.

“You might have suggested that confusing plan of yours, but… Kanata, I order you to seal the Black God normally!! If you refuse, I won’t send you back to your original world!! Also-”
“I don’t care, you know?”

These words shocked Loukis and Dace… no, everyone present except for Shuu.

While that happened, Kanata suddenly grabbed Sakura’s hand and pulled her into an embrace. And as the girl was unable to make heads or tails of what was happening, the boy launched his declaration to the king.

“I do think… that not returning home will make me a poor son. Still, at least I will be able to be together with Sakura. If I wish to, I can teleport us to a place where you cannot reach us, leave the Black God behind, and spend my life there peacefully, you see?”
“W-What~~!?”

TL notes:
I’m genuinely lost at what Kanata expects to gain from exposing the King’s evil plan. I mean, it’s nice to see Loukis being destroyed in a battle of wits, but this feels like that proverb about playing chess with a pigeon; whether you win or lose, nothing good will come of it.

He could just get the spear with his teleportation ability and be done with it in a minute, instead he wastes all this time to assert his intellectual dominance.

Footnotes:

  1. It may not be on the level of how to deal with an immortal snail, but I guess it’s a solid start.
  2. In the original she uses ウチュウ, the katakana version of 宇宙 (“universe”, “cosmos”, “space”). Same as how Rir pronounces “Earth”, it’s meant to show that she apparently doesn’t know the term.
  3. I wonder where he has this information from. Does he think it works like fall-damage in D&D, which cannot be reduced? Did Shuu never tell him that there is a skill that nullifies water pressure?
  4. That doesn’t sound like proof seeing this is a fantasy world. Sure, if there’s records about the movement of stars over long periods that show similar behaviour than what is seen from Earth and if you’re able to confirm Anazumu is a globe, it becomes highly probable, but unless you send something into space to check, you can’t be sure.
