At the same time.
Kanata and Sakura had nothing to do.
“…We’ve eaten Lunch, but what will we do now? I’m awfully bored.”
“You’re right. We didn’t get any important messages, did we?”
While sitting next to each other on the sofa, the two kids complained about having too much free time. That moment, a message arrived in their minds.
[This concerns the sages and their companion. Due to an important announcement from the king, gather in the throne room at half past one in the afternoon, will you?]After receiving that message, the kids looked at each other.
“…I wonder what this is about?” Sakura mused.
“Is it finally time for the Black God to be resurrected? Shuu and Rir should also have been contacted, so let’s consult with them for now.”
Kanata sent their neighbors a message. He also linked the communication to Sakura, so she could see its contents.
[Shuu, Rir, just now…][Kanata! Guess this is ’bout that message from Dace, right? Looks like Rir got it, too.]
Kanata was about to nod, but then remembered they were using messages and stopped himself. So instead, he replied in text.
[That important announcement… I wonder, is the Black God is finally about to come back to life?][Well… could be.]
The reply didn’t sound very excited, but Kanata could guess that it was due to Shuu’s reluctance to part with Rir.
[Right, sorry for havin’ you do all the work.]
[It’s fine, see you.]
Kanata cut off the communication with Shuu and Rir. With a sigh, he let himself sink back onto the couch.
“So… one hour from now, let’s first go to Shuu’s apartment and then teleport to the castle.”
“Alright.”
After they both got comfy on the sofa again, Sakura shot Sakura a sideward glance and asked him a question.
“…Will we really be able to go home?”
“To be honest, while Mr. Loukis summoned us to this world, we don’t know if the reverse is possible,” Kanata explained. “He himself told us it is, but I don’t trust that guy one bit.”
“True, you’re right!” Sakura agreed with his analysis. “…What will we do, if we can’t go home?”
After that question, Kanata sank into thought for a few seconds, before replying.
“First things first, there’d be no need for us to stay in this country, then.”
“I agree.”
“In that case, the four of us – you, Shuu, Rir, and I – could move to another country via teleportation. We want a place where they don’t treat Rir like a slave, so… right, let’s move to the Mephilad Kingdom.”
Sakura was on board with that suggestion.
“Gotcha… that makes sense. What will we do, once we’ve moved there?”
“Well, Shuu and I are rich, so… we’d each buy a house and live there, I guess. We have so much money, we might even live like NEETs,” Kanata explained, while flashing Sakura a smile. “We could work as adventurers every now and then – just often enough to stave off the boredom – while we search for a way to go home.”
Although the smile set Sakura’s heart aflutter, she asked another question to keep their conversation going.
“T-Then… what will we do if ten years pass without us finding a way home…?”
“Well, if so much time passes, we’ll probably give up on it. I can’t say how I’ll feel ten years from now… What should we do? If we keep up dating for so long, we might get married.”
That question caused Sakura to open her eyes widely. With her heart beating fast, she gave an answer to Kanata’s nonchalant question.
“O-Of course, l-l-l-let’s do that. Yeah, let’s get married… Eh-heh-heh.”
“Well, that’s ten years in the future. Still, I’m pretty sure I’ll keep being fond of you1.”
Those words sent Sakura in an awful fluster. Carefully, she brought her own body closer to his. The boy gently took the hand of the girl, who was smiling with her face flushed. Kanata’s face also turned red. Sakura’s eyes went even wider, and she squeezed his hand tightly.
“That’s why we need to win against the Black God, don’t we? Whether we go home or live our lives here together.”
“Yeah.”

It was 1:20 pm. Kanata and Sakura interrupted their discussion about the future and went to Shuu’s apartment. In there, Rir was smiling happily.
“Did something happen?” Kanata asked Shuu.
“Nothin’ big. If I had to say, just couple stuff, y’know? Ain’t that normal?”
“Yes, it is.”
Once Kanata had confirmed that everyone was ready, he had them touch his body.
“Then, off we go,” he announced.
He teleported them to the castle. Once they arrived at the throne room, they waited for Loukis to make his entrance.
TL notes:
Some more relationship stuff with Kanata and Sakura. I wonder if Kanata got his information about Mephilad from Dace’s lessons or somewhere else. In an openly hostile country, you’d expect a certain level of propaganda against their sworn enemy, so it’s curious that he sees it so positively. Though it’s possible he just saw through the demonization and read between the lines (or it’s poor world-building again).
Footnotes:
- Normally, I’d say that overly optimistic, but they’ve know each other for their whole lives plus he had a crush on her for years, so I guess it’s not impossible.
