“So, to put it in simpler terms, you want us to defeat this Black God Surtr who’ll revive soon. And for that, you summoned us…” I summarized.
“Indeed, that’s how it is,” the king confirmed.

I see. Kanata already told me that we were summoned here to fight some demon lord-like being, but hearin’ it in the proper place does make it feel more real, after all.

“Incidentally, when I conveyed this to Sage Kanata, he asked for a reward. I shall tell you in advance… Said reward will be to return you to your original world.”

So, he summoned us without ever askin’ first, has us fight this Black God, and our only reward is to go home. I mean, just being sent back to where we came from hardly is some proper reward, ain’t it?

Well, guess that’s not all, seein’ how Sakura’s eyes were fixed after comin’ to this world. Nah, that was a result of the kids’ hard work…

“At any rate, that’s what I’m asking of you three sages. As for the next order of business… Shuu, I want to measure how much your power amounts to. Dace, go and call the people who left the room earlier.”

Dace replied to the king’s order with a silent nod and called Rir, Thor, and someone named Heimdall. The three of them entered the room.

“Now, you shall have a fight with those two SSS-Rankers.”

T-The hell…!? He wants me to fight two SSS-Rankers at the same time? Won’t that be super hard?
From what Rir told me, our level is abnormally high, but… I ain’t got no clue about the concrete strength of those people.

“Are you talking about a serious fight, Your Majesty?” the old man called Heimdall asked.

After the king shot a glance at Dace, she gave a reply in his stead.

“That should be obvious. When Kanata fought the two knight commanders, they could do nary a thing. Furthermore, he showed us a powerful skill after the fact. Therefore, I assume Sage Shuu commands strength of the same extent and we would like the two of you SSS-Rankers to judge how high his power truly is.”

Hang on, are you friggin’ serious? Don’t go and put me on the same level as Kanata, Ayumu’s little brother. I’m sure that guy trained completely differently than I did.

That’s insane, seriously impossible.

Rir also looked at me with apparent worry. She seemed as if she was trying to say something but couldn’t find the words. Thor, who was standing next to her, suddenly started to laugh.

“Gah-ha-ha-ha! So that’s what you want from us, Your Majesty? Alright… that should be fine.”
“Hrm, certainly. My magic is well suited to displaying power…” Heimdall mused. “Understood, I shall accept this request.”
“I was wondering why you called us here without telling us the reason, but now it makes sense,” Thor added.

Crazy, this is crazy…!

I shot Kanata a glance, pleading for his help. But he was merely observing the king, scrutinizing the man’s expressions intently. While holding hands with Sakura, who looked flustered. She didn’t seem to know whether she should try to put a stop to it or not. Rir also seemed to be in a panic. And after meeting eyes with Thor, the man merely gave me a thumb’s up and smiled.

I might be screwed here.

“Very well. Let us quickly-”
“Your Majesty, might I ask one more thing before we leave?” Heimdall asked.
“What is it?”
“Supposing Mr. Shuu proves unable to handle our power, might we add a condition?”
“…That should be fine, speak.”
“It’s simple. We keep it at a level where no one dies… that is what I meant.”

Right, keep it nonlethal. I won’t die, but I’ll probably wish I did. Yep.

“That’s true. Sages are valuable. Is that all?”
“Yes.”
“Then, let us move.”

Without ever asking me for my consent, they had decided to go ahead with it. Once we started to move, Rir immediately rushed to my side.

“Woof… If it’s you, you’ll probably manage easily. We did use Reincarnation lots of times.”
“I… I hope you’re right.”

We boarded a carriage and drove for about 30 minutes. In there, Heimdall introduced himself.
Finally, we arrived at a mountain. From what they told me, they’d chosen this place to see my true power.

“Then, I suppose we can begin,” Heimdall announced after we had gotten off the carriage and walked for several more minutes.

Also, the only people here were us three sages, the king, Dace, and the two SSS-Rankers.

“In that case… you can go first, Grandpa Heimdall,” Thor proposed and took a few steps back.
“Hrm. Then… behold the power of the One-Man Army… Hah!”

Immediately after a gigantic magic circle had appeared at the old man’s feet, magic circles about the size of manholes showed up around him and on the mountain behind him all at once. Then, countless armed warriors emerged from those circles. I had no idea how many there were.

“Phew… This should do. There are 20’000 warriors here. Each of them has the power of an average B-Rank adventurer… Now, Shuu, are you able to defeat all of them…?”

TL notes:
I’m sure everyone could guess that this wouldn’t be a quick affair without any complications. You can’t really fault the kingdom for deciding to pit the SSS-Rankers against Shuu, after what happened in Kanata’s fight.

It’s a bit weird that they start by having him fight an army of “weak” enemies, seeing their intended foe will be a single entity with (likely) overwhelming power. Also, they never even asked about Shuu’s fighting style, so they don’t even know if this would be a good way for him to show his power.
