“Well… that does it for today’s part!”

30 minutes after the kids had eaten lunch, Kanata declared the end of their leveling activities for the day1.

“You look tired. We did use Reincarnation six times today, didn’t we?”
“Yep. Tomorrow, well go for another six times. After that, once we’ve beaten the boss, we’ll have used Reincarnation a total of 15 times. Hah… I’m exhausted. Going 48 times through the same place really is hard… If this was a video game, it’d still be fun, but…”
“True. Also, will we allocate our points after beating the boss?”

“I guess.” At that point, Kanata changed the topic. “Should we go to the cake store today?”
“Huh!? That’s fine with me! Woo-hoo~!”
“Great… Let’s go, then. Oh… sorry about that, but would you mind visiting that blacksmith from yesterday first?” Kanata asked, as he brough out a piece of metal with a faint blue glow from a magic bag Sakura hadn’t seen before.

“What is this… and that bag, too?”
“I got the bag from a treasure chest earlier. It can store a limitless amount! Here, this one is for you,” Kanata explained, as he handed Sakura a bag that seemed to be of the same type but had a different color (white).
“Wha-!? You got something like that from a treasure chest!?”
“Yep. Also, about this metal… it’s orichalcum… do you remember the name?”
“Huh!? That’s orichalcum!?”

Sakura kept getting surprised. The two kids had heard about orichalcum from Dace. It was a remarkable ore, and its value and characteristics were among the highest in this world.

“I ended up getting my hands on it, so… I was wondering whether I could use it in place of the mithril from those swords…”
“Hah… Ultra-legendary sure gives some amazing things.”
“Well, you can probably also get it from legendary. Maybe I just got unlucky… so I never found any before? Oh, let me give you these, too.”

Kanata handed Sakura a pen and a sheet of paper. The two items somehow gave off the feel of luxury goods.

“What are these…?”
“National treasure grade pen and paper, you see. They came together with a legend grade dish towel. You can check what they do yourself.”
“Ah… S-Sure.”

Sakura appraised the two items.

First, the pen; it never ran out of ink, you could freely control said ink’s depth of color and line thickness, and by using magic power on it, you could even erase what you’d drawn or written later.

Second, the paper; if it was torn, it’d regrow to its former size without limitation, it was completely water-resistant, the paper quality was the highest possible, and by using magic power on it, you could change its size at will.

On that note, the legend grade dish towel was a magic item which could change its size by using magic power on it, never got dirty, and if you touched an item with it, said item’s status would be changed to “best”.

“These are great… T-Thank you, Kanata! I’m sorry, but there’s something I’d like to buy, so could you give me some money?”

Sakura seemed both thankful and apologetic. Among the daily necessities Loukis had supplied them with, one item was missing.

“That’s fine, how much?”
“I don’t know for how much it goes for in this world, but in Japan it’d only be around 200 yen, I think?”
“Huh…? Hm~, gotcha. Then, how about you look for what you want to buy while I negotiate with the blacksmith? We can meet at… let’s say 2:30 pm in front of that cake store.”
“Thanks, and sorry for the trouble.”

After Kanata gave Sakura 15’000 bells as money to use freely from now on, they parted, and he set off towards the smithy2.

Since someone had entered his store, the blacksmith stopped what he was working on and came to the counter.

“Welcome… Eh, yer that lad from yesterday? The spear and sword ain’t done yet, y’know?”
“I see. At what stage is your work on them currently, Sir?”

Kanata needed to ask that question. If the mithril had already been used, there would be no point in handing over the orichalcum.

“Let’s see, I drew up the blueprints… bought paper for them enchantments… ground down the myrmecoleon stuff… pretty much the groundwork. I’m at the point where I’d start makin’ them hilts.”
“T-That’s so fast…! Great, so I made it in time.”

Kanata sighed in relief.

“Huh…? Somethin’ wrong?”
“Ah… no, I managed to get my hands on a better ore than mithril, so I thought it would be better to use that for crafting our weapons…”
“Oh! Oho! Why, is it ultimetal? Or could it be orichalcum…”
“Indeed, it’s orichalcum, Sir.”

The blacksmith struck the table with a loud bang. It gave Kanata a slight start.

“Orichalcum…! That’s great! Understood, let’s use that in place of mithril!”
“Thank you very much!”
“There’s an additional fee fer processin’ orichalcum, but… if ye let me have that mithril, I’ll waive it.”
“Alright, let’s do that… Ah, there’s more.”

Kanata took out four S-Rank magic cores and the materials of several S-Rank magic beasts he had also obtained from the dungeon, and placed them on the counter.

“I heard that you can use magic cores to strengthen weapons and enchantments… Also, these are S-Rank monster materials I was able to get my hands on… Could you use those, too?”
“Oh, oho! Awright! However, it’ll end up takin’ a day longer, then… ye fine with that?”
“Yes, that’s no problem, Sir.”
“Gotcha! I’ll put me skills to use and make ye the best sword and spear I can. Still, ye’re no ordinary lad, after all, to arrange this stuff readily. First orichalcum, and then S-Rank magic cores and monster materials…”

While bowing his head, Kanata left the smithy.

When he checked the time, it was 2:10 pm. He started walking towards the cake store. He reached it at about the same time Sakura got there, so the two kids went inside to enjoy some sweets.

TL notes:
For all his planning, nothing like that would be possible without Kanata’s teleportation. It’d probably take more than a day to reach the dungeon, even using the country’s best carriages, so going back to the city for a break would be the height of inefficiency, which Kanata seems to abhor so much. Not that I’m complaining about a saner approach to dungeon diving, it’s just that Kanata is still very much abnormal compared to natives in Anazumu.

Footnotes:

  1. It’s “activities for/of yesterday” in the original. An error, I assume.
  2. This and the next sentence were redundant in the original (most likely the author changing how he wrote that part and forgetting to remove the old version).
