“Phew~… I’m sorry, Kanata. For starting to bawl so suddenly. And… thank you for being there for me.”
“Well… I get how you feel, it’s the same for me… Should we go eat some sweets?”
“Yeah…! Heh-heh.”
The two kids left the inn and went to an establishment that was both a café and a sweets shop. They perused the menu to choose their orders. This shop almost only offered cakes.
“You can choose whatever and however much you want,” Kanata told her.
“Woo-hoo! In that case… I’ll take this one and that one! And also some milk tea.”
“Then I’ll go with cheesecake… and milk tea, too, I guess.”
Sakura chose two different kinds of cakes. A bit later, their orders were brought to their table.
Both the other customers and shop clerks were curious about the two kids. Having black hair and black eyes was rather rare… and now there were two people with these traits. Furthermore, the boy was handsome while the girl looked beautiful. Even so, Sakura was so enraptured by the cakes, she didn’t notice all that attention directed towards them.
“Eh-heh-heh… Thanks for the food~! Oh… that’s delicious… I’m so happy,” Sakura exclaimed full of joy.
“It sure is.”
“Hey, Kanata! Uhm… That’s as thanks for consoling me earlier… I guess? Say ‘Ah~’.”
“Ah~. Nom… this cake is also quite good.”
“Eh-heh-heh. Eh-heh-heh-heh. That it is.”
Gone was the slightly harsh tone she normally used with Kanata, Sakura did her very best to spend a relaxing time with the boy she liked, all while stuffing her cheeks with sweets.
“Oh, that cheesecake was delicious. Sakura, do you want the last piece?”
“Erm, could you give me the plate?”
“Sure… but why?”
“Well, don’t worry about that.”
Following her request, Kanata handed Sakura his plate with the piece of cheesecake on it.
“Look here!”
When Sakura cast magic on the cake, it gradually reformed itself to how it was at the start. This was the skill “Underlying Principle of the Benevolent God’s Restoration”. It bears mention that she also used Illusion Magic to ensure the people around them wouldn’t notice.
“Ta-dah!”
“Wow~… Did you just use what I think you used?”
“I sure did. Oh, this is for you, Kanata,” Sakura said and cut off a piece of one of the cakes she was eating. This one also regained its shape until it was back to a slice of cake. “Would you like the other one, too?”
“No… If I eat too much, I won’t have any appetite for the lunch you’ll make later.”
“…T-That’s true… Eh-heh-heh.”
After eating the regrown cakes, they left the shop.
The next place the two kids visited was a small smithy.
“About this place… As a matter of fact, earlier, I asked Mr. Heimdall via telepathy who’s the best blacksmith in this town to place custom orders at! Though you need to bring any materials other than metal and wood.”
“Oh… I get it, it’s for your myrmecoleon spear…”
“That’s the one. Should I also order a sword for you, Sakura?”
“Is that ok? Please do.”
They entered the shop. Inside, there was nothing except for a counter and a few chairs. On first glance, you might mistake this place for an information desk. The only display piece seemed to be a sword.
Behind the counter, a surly looking man, past the prime of his life, was sitting.
“Welcome… Oh… what the hell… are ye kiddin’ me? This ain’t no playground fer kids!”
“Erm… This place was recommended to me by Mr. Heimdall, Sir…”
“Hmph… I see. Ye’re no mere brats, then. Let’s hear it.”
“Alright, I would like to place an order…”
Kanata skillfully laid out his request. Sakura didn’t participate in the talks and just listened.
Some time later, Kanata had finished his explanation for the most part.
“I see, I see. Ye’re employed by the country, aren’t ye…? Got it. A spear and a sword, is it? So, ye got the materials with ye?”
“Yes, of course. Here they are, Sir.”
Kanata brought out the best parts of the myrmecoleon (Sakura had no idea when he’d had the time to dismantle it) and one of the swords they had obtained from the mysterious black swordsmen.
“This is… from a myrmecoleon? Hang on, there’s somethin’ about it… And that sword…! Gimme some time to appraise ’em.”
The old blacksmith left the counter and disappeared further inside the shop, though he returned almost immediately.
“These materials are rare… No, more like they’re the first of their kind. A myrmecoleon subspecies, huh? Moreover… the blade of this sword is made out of mithril that has barely been processed.”
“Yes. Please craft a cool-looking spear and sword from these materials.”
“These things are interestin’. Ye gave me some rare materials, so I’m itchin’ to put me skills to use… Alright! I’ll do it. What kinda enchantments do ye want?”
Kanata replied to any questions in his good-natured way. The fees would be 2 million bells per weapon, but the blacksmith told them that he’d reduce it 1.75 million, if they gave him the rest of the myrmecoleon’s materials, to which they agreed. It might not seem that way, but that was cheap. This was also because they had brough their own mithril.
“It’ll be done three days from now. Come and get it, then.”
“Thank you very much, Sir.”
“Nah… Been a long time since I had a job that needed all me skills, y’see.”
Kanata and Sakura bowed to the old man and then left the smithy. Then, in a place where no one saw them, they used teleportation to return to the inn.
“This was so much fun… I can’t wait until they’re done!” Kanata gushed.
“That’s great. I’ll start making lunch, then.”
“Alright. Once we’ve eaten, let’s go back to the dungeon.”
“Sure thing.”
TL notes:
A breather between dungeon dives. I do like Sakura’s out-of-the-box thinking with her healing spell. Looking at it this way, this thing has a lot more possible applications that aren’t of military nature. Though it does raise the question of how nonliving things know what their original form is. Maybe that cake would’ve turned back into its ingredients, if she had used the spell for longer?
