“That part with Gilmars… an SSS-Ranker, as the supervising editor?” Sakura asked.
“Yep, they are the ones. These Secret Technique skills are amazing.”
“Like this… Secret Imperial Sword Technique?
“Yep, Kruzel also used them, so… they’re quite strong, you see. That’s why I think we both should learn them.”
“Then let’s synthesize all of them, no? All four of these… According to this Gilmars, there are apparently not only versions for Sword, Bow, and Spear, but for other weapon types like morning stars¹ as well.”
“Well… that was my plan, but…”

Kanata seemed to have trouble finding the right words.

“Is there an issue?”
“You see, synthesizing one of these requires one and a half S-Rank magic cores… We don’t have enough for all of them. At least not currently.”
“In that case, you should learn all of them, Kanata. Thinking about it, I’m more of a supporter anyway.”
“You’re fine with that? Thank you.”
“I mean, wasn’t that what you were going for from the beginning?”
“Well, yes.”

Kanata took out several S- and A-Rank magic cores from his bag and, once he found suitable skill synthesis combinations, managed to learn all Secret Spear Technique skills without incident.

“Still, you should learn at least one Secret Technique skill, Sakura.”
“There are still three cores left, so I guess I’ll acquire a single one.”

Sakura then obtained the Secret Roaring Sword Technique skill.

“So, what else should we do? There’s still a boatload of SKP left…”
“I wish to manufacture various abilities with Darkness and Psychic Magic and those marvelous Secret Spear Techniques of mine, but… It might be better to find a method for you to make use of these vessels of power (magic cores)², Sakura…”
“Hmph, what do you mean now?”
“Listen well, I shall give you detailed instructions…”
“Yes, yes.”

Kanata’s idea was based on the fact, that back when Sakura had synthesized her S-Rank healing skill, she only had to use several B-Rank magic cores. So, if she manufactured 10 or more S-Rank skills based on healing, support, or plant magic, and then synthesized all of them, wouldn’t she be able to create an SS-Rank skill?

It has to be noted, that he delivered this whole explanation in his chuuni-speech.

“And that’s why I’d like you to use the remaining two S-Rank magic cores.”
“I get it…”
“What do you think?”
“Alright… Then, how should I go about synthesizing them?”
“Let me think…”

Sakura started synthesizing skills in accordance with Kanata’s instructions. Though even saying that, Kanata himself didn’t know the optimal way to synthesize them, he merely guessed at what might be best.

To start with, he had her synthesize “Extreme Restoration Magic”, Extreme Wood Magic”, Extreme Enhancement Magic”, and finally “Extreme Light Magic”, which resulted in a skill called “Summon Great Healing Spirit of the Holy Forest”, which summoned a wood-elemental spirit, specializing on restoration and support.

Next was “Extreme Restoration Magic”, Extreme Light Magic”, “Sharper Mind”, and “Extreme Abnormal Dispel Magic”, producing a skill called “Grand White Radiance of Utmost Restoration”, which could also restore MP, as long as the caster wasn’t the target.

After that, they tried various combinations, resulting in seven skills with the names “Region of Utmost Restoration”, “Summon Great Healing Spirit of the Holy Spring”, “Holy Fire of Utmost Restoration”, “Holy Wind of Utmost Restoration”, “Secret Art of the Earth Mother’s Benevolence”, “Secret Art of the Ocean Mother’s Benevolence”, and “Secret Art of Heaven’s Healing Radiance”³.

“All of them probably have crazy strong effects…”
“Yep. Now, if we synthesize all of those, plus the one you healed your eyes with, Restoration Magic, and Fýsa Lífdagar, we should be able to create something awesome.”
“True… I’ll give it a try!”

Following Kanata’s instruction, Sakura allocated one third of each skill’s SKP maximum (costing her 6070 points) and then synthesized them. The result was an SS-Rank (sub-rank 20) skill called “Underlying Principle of the Benevolent God’s Restoration⁴“.

When Sakura looked at the skill’s effects, she experienced a terrible shock.

“Are SS-Rank skills as incredible as we thought?” Kanata asked her.
“It’s… it’s amazing! It works like this…”

Sakura gave Kanata an explanation of what the skill did.
There was a sequence of three actions when using it:

First, you decided on the area in which the skill would take effect. A greater region would result in higher MP consumption, but this expenditure could be reduced with magic power⁵. Furthermore, you could obviously cast the magic directly onto singular or multiple targets, which wouldn’t result in additional MP consumption.

Next, you decided on which targets within said area the restoration would take effect. Possible targets were people, magic beasts, animals, plants, other living things, or lifeless things (even items and things like pebbles on the roadside were possible).

Finally, you decided on the scope of the restoration. Said scope ranged from 1 to 10, with 9 being able to fully restore the targets’ HP and MP, remove all status effects, and regrow any lost body parts (it wouldn’t restore MP for the caster, if they were among the targets). 10 was special; it allowed the caster to resurrect any targets that had died within the last 48 hours.

Furthermore, you mentally performed these three actions, allowing you to instantly invoke the skill.

This was the extent of the skill Sakura had obtained. It required 11’500 SKP to max out, and to get to this point, she had also used up about 2.2 S-Rank magic cores. Furthermore, she had gained new titles and some of the ones she had obtained previously evolved into stronger versions.

“Should I allocate enough SKP to max it out?”
“I guess… you better…”
“You’re… right… Yeah.”

Even though they had just obtained a skill with such tremendous abilities, the two kids showed pained expressions. Their reason for doing so was rooted in the skill’s ability to “bring people back to life”.

“Hey… Kanata… If, if… I had this… on Earth…”
“…Yes.”
“I wonder, could I have brough Sis… *sob*… and Ayu-nii⁶… *sob*… back to life…?”
“I’m sorry, I don’t know.”
“Ugh… *sob*… Sis… Sis… wah~~…”

Kanata put his arms around Sakura’s shoulders and held her, as she cried into his chest for several minutes.

From the perspective of the two kids being used to wage war on Mephilad, that SS-Rank skill has some very scary applications. We already know from Mika’s Howling Bow God, just how wide-range SS-Rank spells can be, so imagine a skill that instantly fully heals a whole army (plus restores all MP) and resurrects any fallen soldiers. And with Sakura’s cheat-skill, the MP use is probably negligible.

Again, some stats had wrongly calculated numbers. Makes me wonder what the author used to calculate them, seeing how inconsistent the errors are.

1. The original is 鉄球 (“iron ball”). Since the morning star had such a central role in chapter 157 with Gilmars’ clan member using it, I assume that’s what it’s supposed to mean.
2. I added this to emphasize Kanata being in his chuunibyou mode. In the original, it only says “magic cores”.
3. The original names were either full of typos or made up of Kanji combinations that make little sense. I tried to make a somewhat consistent theme for the names, but there might be errors (not that it matters much since these skills are only used as fuel for synthesis).
4. The original is 仁神治癒の理. The 理 here is most likely in the Buddhist meaning of “general principle (as opposed to individual concrete phenomenon)”.
5. Considering that magic power is pretty much MP you have swirl around your body, this doesn’t make much sense. It might be a typo and mean the stat “spellpower” instead.
6. She actually uses あゆむ兄 (“big brother Ayumu”) here in the original, though I decided to use the shortened version for consistency’s sake.
7. This might be a title very close to the one Mika got in chapter 119, with 美姫 (beautiful maiden/princess) instead of 美花 (beautiful flower).
