“Hah… We’re… we’re finally back, aren’t we?” Sakura murmured.
“You’re right.”
Still with flushed faces, the two kids had returned to their apartment. They were grasping each other’s hands tightly.
“What… what will we do later today? Manage stuff on our status screens?”
“Sorry… I don’t feel like doing any more work today…. Though I’m still fine with making sweets.”
“Gotcha… Then we’ll tackle our status screens tomorrow… uhm, will we be making the sweets together…? Oh, what about lunch?1”
“Well, I guess so…”
The moment Kanata started to see the rest of the day as “free time”, he entered lazy mode. Sakura, on the other hand, was still suffering the aftereffects of his overly high praise and the hug, so she had some trouble forming coherent sentences. This would likely last for the rest of the day.
“Still… *yawn*… lunch comes first…”
“Hey… Kanata. If you’re tired, should I make both lunch and dinner today? Though I’d like to make the sweets together with you…”
“Would you do that for me?”
“Y-You can count on me!”
Sakura made lunch, putting in more love than she ever had before, and served it to Kanata. She had skillfully cooked Nikujaga with the ingredients found in this world (though without Konjac noodles)2.
“How is it?”
“Amazing, it’s real Nikujaga. Delicious.”
“R-Right! It took quite a bit of effort.”
The lack of rice made it hard for them, but they still managed to enjoy a delicious lunch.
“Say, when should we report that we cleared the dungeon?”
“Tomorrow… no, that’d be too much work, let’s do it the day after tomorrow. There’s a good chance that as soon as they hear that, they’ll hit us with a ‘Now that you’ve completed the dungeon, we have a request’… Thanks for making lunch, it was really good.”
“You’re welcome. Right, about making sweets… If we start an hour from now, what should we do until then?”
“I’ll leave that up to you, Sakura.”
Right after finishing lunch, Kanata threw himself onto the bed. So, Sakura pondered about what she wanted to do. Soon enough, she came up with the ingenious idea of going on a date with Kanata.
“In that case, let’s start making sweets now, and afterwards… could you help me buy some clothes?”
“Huh? We got all those from Mr. Loukis, don’t we? Well, if that’s what you want to do, I’m fine with it.”
“Thank you. I’d prefer something less revealing, but I’d like clothes that go well with this necklace.”
“Oh… Alright. Let’s go after we’re done with the sweets, then. At any rate, it’s rare for you to go clothes shopping, isn’t it?”
“You… you think so?”
Sakura disappeared into the kitchen to get things ready. There, she unconsciously struck a triumphant pose. Once she finished getting everything ready to make sweets, she called Kanata to the kitchen.
“What should we make today?”
“We could make apple pie… cake… cream puffs… or roll cake.”
“What about… donuts?”
“I’d prefer something sweeter.”
Whenever they bought donuts, Sakura ended up pouring honey over hers. Furthermore, she also used a staggering amount of honey and sugar on pancakes and such.
“Heh-heh, you really like it sweet, don’t you? …What about pudding?”
“Pudding!”
“Let’s go with that, then.”
The two kids made pudding.
The method to make it did exist in this world, though it wasn’t widely known. Until Alim and Mika had used it for parfait and other sweets, it hadn’t been known at all3. Though there was no way for Kanata and Sakura to have that information.
“Great, once we’ve chilled them, they’re done.”
“Hm. I’m not completely sure, but it’ll take about an hour for that… Should we go shopping already?”
“True enough… Once it’s time to eat them, we can always return here with your teleportation, Kanata, can’t we? Let’s do it that way.”
The kids went outside. Sakura was still clinging to Kanata’s arm. It looked like the boy was slowly getting used to it.
When they had walked through the city for some time, Kanata stopped in front of a certain store. It wasn’t a clothing store.
“Sakura, let’s make a quick stop first.”
“Hm~? This is the store that buys monster materials, isn’t it?”
“Exactly. We’ll need some money first.”
The kids entered the store specializing on magic beasts. There, Kanata sold several of the S-Rank monster materials he had found in treasure chests. It all summed up to roughly 4.12 million bells.
It was a fitting price for S-Rank magic beasts… As a result, Kanata was urged, rather forcefully, to register as a member of the store, but he resolutely refused.
“Now we’ve got money worth 41.2 million yen!”
“R-Right…”
“Sakura, you can buy whatever clothes you want. Even stuff that costs a million yen per set, like what you see on TV! No matter how pricy, we can afford it.”
“That expensive…”
“Right? But we’ve got all those amazing monster materials… You should buy things you like and won’t just lie around gathering dust… I think we have the means to go a little crazy, don’t we?”
“Hm~… alright.”
With that being said, Kanata and Sakura arrived at the best clothing store in the country. No matter what they appraised, everything was between high and supreme grade, with the most expensive clothing at treasure grade. Although these cost a staggering 670’000 bells per set.
It bears mention, that normally children like Kanata and Sakura without a guardian would be refused entry to the store. Furthermore, people who at first glance didn’t seem to have any money would also politely be asked to leave. However, the kids weren’t turned away.
That was because the employees of the store had appraised the necklace Sakura was wearing (none of them had a skill higher than Appraisal Master, so all they learned was it being legend grade).
“Sakura, do you see anything you like?”
“Not yet. It isn’t that simple to choose. Girls need time to decide on clothes, you know?”
“I know. But weren’t you always the type to have your mom buy clothes for you? Will you be able to pick some yourself?”
“Gah… hang on… We can ask an employee… I guess?
“Ha-ha, let’s do that.”
Kanata called out to a clerk who had been following them since they entered the store.
“Erm, could you help my friend choose some clothes, Miss?”
“Of course, you can rely on me! Let me see… dear customer, would you mind showing me your face for a moment?”
“Ah… of course!”
Sakura looked at the employee. That moment, the elf clerk froze in place for several seconds, as if she had been struck by lightning. With a start, she immediately regained consciousness.
“Ah… right!” she told the kids. “I shall call the store’s advisor, so please give me some time, dear customers!”
Her eyes looked as if she had just discovered a hidden gem.
TL notes:
We’re starting volume 12 with another free-time chapter with Kanata and Sakura. This time with clothes shopping.
Contrasting with volume 11, this one will not involve any leveling (at least by fighting monsters) and very little fighting. Instead, there’ll be a stronger focus on the relationships of the Yggdrasil cast and the build up towards the inevitable confrontation with the villains.
Footnotes:
- The author apparently forgot that it was already 3 pm when they went to get their weapons before clearing the dungeon. Though it also might be an error in chapter 307 and intended to be in the morning.
- See chapter 108 for an explanation of the dish.
- So, if this spread far enough in the ~3 weeks since Alim made it in the castle, I guess the pizza also came from him.
