“You looked like you were about to disappear in that cage. Are you fine now?” I asked the spirit as we were walking under the clear blue sky, with only a bit of cloud in the distance.

I could more or less predict what was going on, but I had to start the conversation somehow.

However, due to my inability to properly communicate with people, the seeds that I tried to plant disappeared without sprouting. This led me to think that maybe those good at communication might just end up being great farmers.

Besides, it was said that flowers thrived when spoken to, so those farmers might even excel at cultivating them. Though, I wasn’t sure if farmer was the right term for someone who specialized in growing flowers.

“I am. It’s all thanks to God sharing some of His strength with me.”
“He did? Well, I guess God wouldn’t just send you back in the same state you were in before.”
“If I’d stayed in the Divine Realm a bit longer, I’d have recovered naturally. But the fact that God shared His strength with me means He wanted me to return quickly to regain my sense of the world faster.”
“I didn’t realize you had such an issue.”
“Well, yes. In a balanced world, everything would come naturally to me. But with the current state of disorder, I have to consciously work to maintain that balance, and it requires a certain level of skill.”

Maintaining this ‘world sense’ seemed like something only spirits would need.

Between the time constraints and its complexities, it sounded like more trouble than it was worth. If the spirit hadn’t been captured in the first place, the situation requiring its world sense might never have occurred.

(Will I need that sense too? As a Demigod who asked to walk this world, it feels inevitable. Maybe I should pray to God to change my wish to eternal sleep instead.)

“Assuming you’re not going to vanish again, how do you appear to others? What I’m asking is, will people be able to tell you’re a spirit? If they do, don’t expect me to cover for you.”
“As of now, only you, Finis, and the other spirits can see me while we’re here on this planet.”

(Great. That makes me the crazy woman talking to thin air.)

As a girl, I could probably get away with acting a little eccentric, but if this had happened while I was in my old body, I’d have been labeled a full-blown weirdo.

Even so, people would still find it odd, even for a girl. For a man, though, it would undoubtedly have been worse.

“If you’d like, I can take on a human form so others can see me, Finis,” the spirit offered.
“Really? Can you show me?”

I scanned the area, ensuring no one was around, then gave a nod of approval.

The spirit claimed it could take on human form, but I wasn’t sure if it would appear male or female. Its voice sounded feminine, but there was no way to know for certain. As I pondered, the spirit began to transform.

(Here we go! Wait… huh?)

At first, it tried to take on the form of an adult woman, but then it suddenly became smaller. And even though I said smaller, it was about the same size as me.

I was genuinely surprised when I saw the outline of what looked like a glowing human gradually begin to take on color.

(Good, good. She’s cute. I even dare say beautiful.)

Her skin was pale and smooth, and her wide, luminous eyes sparkled like topaz. Her blonde hair also perfectly matched the color of her eyes. But it was just a bit…

“How about this, Master Finis?” she asked, her voice soft and melodic.
“How should I put it? You look a lot like me.”
“Then let’s say I’m your younger sister,” she suggested cheerfully1.

It was true; we looked similar enough to pass as siblings. My green hair and brown eyes were common traits among elves, just as dark hair and eyes were typical among Japanese people—though variations existed. For elves, green and brown were the norm.

Setting us up as sisters seemed like a reasonable cover, color differences aside. Her face bore enough resemblance to mine for the story to work.

At first glance, we could pass as two girls traveling the world. Claiming to be sisters searching for our place in life gave us a plausible backstory.

Sure, our hair and eye colors were different, and our faces weren’t identical, but we were similar enough to be believable. The biggest difference, though, was that I looked perpetually sleepy.

But that wasn’t the only issue. There was also the glaring problem of the spirit’s ears—they weren’t pointy like mine, and for sisters, that was a big inconsistency!

(Honestly, God, was this an oversight? It feels like another one of those ‘large gold coin’ situations waiting to happen.)

Still, I couldn’t really complain. Those gold coins had been incredibly useful. I wouldn’t turn down some more of them.

“If we’re going with the sister angle, then we’ll need a suitably complicated family backstory,” I said.

Our differences were enough to explain that one of us might have been adopted, or perhaps we had different parents. Although… were Half-Elves even a thing? And if they were, would their ears look different?

We could say I had more elven blood than her. The thought lingered as I stared at her ears, but then, as if she could read my mind, the spirit reached up and touched her ears.

“I can adjust my ears if that’s the problem. Don’t worry,” she said.
“I see. Fine then,” I replied, feeling a sense of relief.

It made sense that she could tweak something as small as her ears, given she had transformed from a sphere of light into a humanoid form. But this raised another issue. I couldn’t call her a spirit outright anymore—it would blow her cover immediately.

“From your form, I’m guessing you’re a spirit of light, correct?”
“That is correct. Why do you ask?”
“I thought it might be useful if you had a name I could call you. Do you have one?”
“Not that I can think of.”
“In that case, I’ll call you Lullus when you’re in this form.”
“Okay!” she said cheerfully.

The name wasn’t anything special, but given the circumstances, it felt like a way to solidify our connection. I thought it might even strengthen her somehow. But… nothing seemed to change.

“By the way, are you really fine with me naming you like that?”
“Yes, it’s completely okay,” Lullus replied, her blank gaze showing no concern whatsoever.

The real question now was whether she could keep up with me in her current form.
