Our resting period had passed in the blink of an eye.

In the middle of it, Donovan raided us and kidnapped us for a dinner party, but we still managed to get a nice rest.

Then the three days passed, and came morning where we would be resuming our Adventurer activities.

We were currently racking our brains at the counter.

“Cleaning the park’s drain, searching for a lost dog, repairing the roof of a warehouse…”
“And this one’s an errand. The bakery people are asking to buy 30kg of flour for them.”
“This is cargo unloading work at the southern gate.”
“This one’s an indecent store asking to distribute their leaflets… There are minors here but they still offer jobs like this!?”
“Cloud you perv.”
“I’m innocent!”

As we started the proper Adventurer work, Gadius mediated work for us and the result was this. Just about every commission was internal, all-rounder work.

“Gadius, what is this?”
“It is what you see. You are still first-ranks are you not? Then these are the suitable jobs for you.”
“This is just children’s work no matter how you put it!”
“Nicole, you were certainly renowned in Raum. But we are in Stollar now. And you are mostly minors, and novices at that.”
“I cannot mediate important or external work to novices like you.”
“But…”

I started to argue still, but Gadius turned his back and returned to cooking. He was making breakfast for the other guests.

Gadius was aware of our actual ability. The only things he did not know were Michelle’s power and my true power.

The fact that he still chose to present us this kind of safe work must have had some kind of reason.

Right… Maybe something like Lyell’s overprotective meddling.

“Ah, yes. If you do not find those jobs appealing, why not work in this store as a waitress? I will gladly welcome you lot.”
“Not a chance!”

It’s not that I hated the waiter’s work. I doubt Gadius would put weird clothes on us.

But Finia was different. When it came to dressing me up, she tended to go wild. It was clear that the idea of working as a waitress would excite her more than me and try to overdecorate me.

So I instantly refused Gadius’ offer.

“I see. I was hoping for it as some customers showed their enthusiasm in you working as a waitress.”
“For the time being, give me a list of those customers. I’ll send it to dad later.”
“Are you a demon!?”

Even Gadius felt disturbed at my reply. He was well aware of how wild Lyell used to get when I was concerned.

The customers that were looking dejectedly at us cocked their heads in wonder, not knowing the danger they were in.

They would probably eventually come to realize how frightening Lyell could be.

“That aside, listen, Nicole. It is not that I do not know your strength. But the other Adventurers are different. It would not be good to give you special treatment here.”

His explanation made me realize that he was anxious about us using our standing to jump into action right away. If we abused it, it could earn us the ire of other Adventurers. If we were to live here, it was better to avoid causing such frictions.

“It would be easy if we split it into four, I suppose? But the reward is equally small.”

We took the offered jobs and started discussing which to choose. Michelle and Cloud aside, it was nice to see that Finia was assertively expressing her opinions too.

After five days of travel and three days of rest, she had gotten used to other members quite well. Given her reserved personality, she tended to keep quiet in these situations a lot.

“Then, what about the lost dog?”
“We are not familiar with the area, so we would just end up getting lost ourselves.”
“In which case, we are left with drainage cleaning and roof repairs.”
“Oh and the leaflet distribution.”

“Whyyy!?”

Cloud got criticized about the leaflets, but I was also against it. Michelle looked more mature than her age, and Finia was also a lovely girl. It was easy to see that we would get involved in some trouble if we started spreading lewd leaflets.

Gadius explained the particulars of the commission. His hands continued working, however. He was pretty used to his work.

“They would have to do it for a few days, so they are asking someone to take over it. We sell their bread here too, so I would like it if you accept that commission.”
“Mhh, we can’t refuse it after hearing that now can we.”
“Then, how about this warehouse roof repair commission?”
“It seems that the roof of a warehouse belonging to a big company had collapsed. It is quite huge so they are looking for agile people. It should be as tall as this inn, I suppose?”

If it was a warehouse big enough to rival this three-story building, we couldn’t just climb up and quickly fix it. It needed agile or skilled people, or it could be dangerous. And with such heights, people could freeze up from fear too.

“Alright, let’s divide work. Cloud… and Michelle, since you look strong, can you two take the flour delivery commission?”
“Huh, I’m carrying 30 kg too?”
“That might be too much. But doing it together shouldn’t be hard. Cloud will take 20 kg while you take 10, I guess?”
“Well if it’s that much… I guess it’s possible.”

20 kg was quite heavy, but he was swinging his greatshield every day, so it wasn’t an unreasonable weight for him. Michelle had also received the assistant academy’s training, so she should easily manage to carry 10 kgs.

“Finia and I will go repair the roof in the meantime.”
“Understood.”

Finia being an elf was quite nimble. And I had always been nimble since my previous life. Moreover, my thread manipulation showed its full potential in these kinds of situations… probably.

“It is a little worrying to act separately, but let’s prioritize efficiency here.”
“Indeed. Neither has a high reward, so taking multiple of them sounds good.”

Finia agreed with my opinion.

Michelle didn’t seem to have any objections either, so I let Gadius know about our decision.

What about Cloud? His opinion was practically worthless in our party.
