I returned to Stollar and went to get the story straight with Mark, John, and Tony who acted as my proxies.
Since the kidnapping incident got resolved in half a day, I managed to contact them and stop them just as they were about to depart.
There was a little over a day’s distance from Stollar to Kolbo village. It was fortunate in this case that they needed to make preparations before departing.
If they already did, I would’ve needed to wait three days to get in touch with them.
I couldn’t take Michelle and others to this meeting, so I was meeting them secretly with the help of Gadius.
I headed to the Adventurer’s Guild and greeted the three of them waiting for me there.
“Hey, sorry for the wait. Thanks for the matter this time.”
“Not at all. It was your request, Miss Nicole. This much is nothing!”
“I hope so. Also, keep your voices down.”
“O-Okay.”
Mark’s group started speaking in loud voices after my greeting. They took the promotion exam at the same time as me when we first came to this city, but we ended up taking part in their own exam quite a bit too.
As a result, they were able to accept relatively good commissions, so their lifestyle improved considerably.
Ever since then, they kept politely calling me “Miss Nicole.”
We were called with such honorifics by them who were the second-best Adventurers in this city. All of us were in our trends…well, aside from Finia… so, people who visited this place found that extremely unnatural.
“Excuse me, we want to borrow a room.”
“Of course, go ahead.”
I’ve become quite famous in these three years. The Guild receptionist lent me the room right away too.
As I took the three with me and headed to the room, I heard strange voices from behind, but decided to ignore them.
“They are accompanying Nicole to the room?”
“Me too, I want to go with her someday…”
“She’s taking three at once huh. Looks like adult content for her is gonna gain some pages with this.”
“Yeah, a lot of pages. Maybe I’ll order it too.”
“Make it yourself!”
I take back what I said. I’ll pulverize one of those guys later.
At any rate, once we entered the room such noises stopped becoming audible.
I first said my thanks to the three.
“You helped me a lot this time. I had to move secretly given that it was a kidnapping incident.”
“It was your little sister, after all. Of course you would want to be careful. She was saved without problems, right?”
“Of course. If something had happened to her, I would’ve never let the matter go.”
“By the way, is your sister a beauty?”
“Fear not, I’m not handing her over to you people.”
John’s remark made it sound like he was aiming for Fina, but he’d have to cross over my corpse to do that.
In the first place, they didn’t know Fina’s exact age. That’s probably why he said something so outrageous. They probably expected her to be like 13 or 14.
Setting the trivial talk aside, we put our heads together and went over the incident chronologically.
I of course was keeping the fact that I was Reid a secret, so I instead made up a story that I planned to have them head to Kolbo in our stead, and then contact Michelle and others right after.
They would go ahead in Kolbo and attract their attention. After that, I would be sending Michelle’s group and have them suppress the negotiating grounds.
In the meantime, I would use the teleportation magic, return to the northern village, and settle the problem… but the culprits got captured before any of that could happen.
During the talk, they got ecstatic expressions a few times, so I had to smack them back into sanity several times.
Because of that, this conversation took longer than expected.
When we were about to be done summing up and coordinating our stories, there was a knock on the door.
“Hmm? Come in.”
“Excuse me. There was an urgent designated commission for you from Raum, Miss Nicole.”
“Urgent designated commission?”
Designated commissions were ones where the client designated the specific Adventurer for it.
There was no special worth to it, but your impression improved in the Guild after being designated. For Adventurers, it was one of the dreams to receive designated requests.
“Yes. The client is… um, excuse me, but…”
“Oh, I see. Sorry, Mark. I got a commission so let’s leave it at this for today. Handle the situation as we discussed earlier.”
“Please leave it to us! We will properly deceive everyone!”
“Hey, don’t say something so disreputable!”
I kicked them out of the room while hitting Mark on the back.
They were experienced enough to realize they couldn’t remain in the room since it was a designated commission.
They got driven out without much fuss, which was witnessed by the other Adventurers in the hall.
“They got out while being hit by Nicole.”
“Isn’t that a reward!”
“Please step on me! I’ll do anything!”
… This Guild is really done for. It’s basically the repeat of Raum.
As I glared sharply towards the source of the voices, a few of them trembled and stiffened.
They seemed to be the ones who knew what being glared at by me would signify. Afterward, they rushed to the toilet, so they were probably on the verge of leaking.
I heard from Mark later that they returned with refreshed expressions and clarity.
At any rate, the designated commission was more important now.
I picked up the timetable paper that was left on the table and listened to what the staff member had to say.
“My apologies, it was really an urgent matter.”
“Not at all. I know that could happen in the Guild. Don’t worry about it.”
“Alright, thank you very much. Moreover, this commission has not been run through Lord Gadius yet, so please keep that in mind.”
So this commission wasn’t investigated beforehand by him, so she was warning me to be careful.
“Understood. So, what is the commission?”
“Yes, well… Are you aware of Her Highness Eligore III of Raum?”
“Yes. She is the one with the first right to succeed the throne, right? I remember she was strangely popular like Letina.”
“You mean Marquis Yowi’s daughter, yes? They are similar in that they have petite builds. Actually, Her Highness Eligore wanted to directly commission you, Miss Nicole.”
“So she wants us?”
I was the daughter of Lyell and Maria. And Michelle was the savior of Raum, also called the Bow Saint. Given the members of our party, we’ve been receiving quite a few requests from nobles.
However, Gadius turned away most of those commissions trying to win us over, so we’ve barely dealt with the noble society as we made our living as Adventurers.
But since this commission crossed over the wall that was Gadius, it ended up reaching me like this.
“There was Lord Maxwell’s name in the referrals list, so I couldn’t refuse…”
“Yeah, I don’t think it would be possible for a simple Guild member.”
So this is also Maxwell’s request, huh? Then I guess there’s no reason for me to refuse.
“The commission is to guard Her Highness Eligore and bring her to Stollar.”
“Huh? Isn’t that normally a job for the chivalric order?”
“That is the case, but it seems this is to deal with a certain problem too. I could not get them to tell me what that was.”
“Hmm…?”
There were no clear instructions, but if they were referred by Maxwell, it shouldn’t be anything bad. Plus Her Highness Eligore was quite highly praised since the time I was in Raum.
If it was a request from people like them, I feel like rejecting would make it more of a loss.
Plus, we knew who the people were this time, so there was no need to worry about being deceived.
“The issue is that certain problem, huh. They aren’t going to roll us into an assassination work, right?”
“It is scary because I…cannot reject that possibility.”
The primary successor to the throne. In other words, Eligor III was to be the next ruler—the Queen.
A princess like her was coming here without the knights, so people with evil intentions are bound to appear.
“There was also one more condition.”
“Huh, condition?”
“Yes. It was, make sure Mister Cloud takes part in it, it seems.”
“Oh, so that’s what it is…”
With that, I finally guessed what that certain problem could be.
Fina’s kidnapping incident was impossible to stop from spreading, given the fame of her parents, Lyell and Maria.
And it was easy to see that leading to the persecution of the half-demons.
So if a well-famed person like Her Highness Eligor let a half-demon accompany her as a guard and displayed it to the masses, they probably thought they could keep the persecution in check.
“I suppose it’s not a bad condition…”
I didn’t hear about the reward yet, but the effect of this commission was already good enough as compensation.
I only told her that I would consider accepting the commission, and headed back to the inn to tell the rest of my comrades.
I did make sure that three Adventurers got scorched before I returned, but that is a story for another time.
