In the end, the only noteworthy event at the beach was the unexpected offline encounter with the leader of Nord Glacier. Kou and her friends continued to play until the sun began to set. Afterward, they headed to the ceremonial hall within Island City, where tables loaded with food awaited them for a celebratory gathering.

◇◇◇

“What part of this is casual… you tricked me…”

Kou gripped the skirt of her dress, feeling the soft fabric, and glared at her mother, Amari, with teary eyes.

Somehow, Kou had ended up in a party dress that Amari had prepared for her. Now, she stood beside her mother, trying to maintain a polite smile.

They were attending a celebration for the NTEC workers who had contributed to the resort’s construction. Typically, such gatherings were casual, but given the setting, everyone was dressed to match the elegant atmosphere.

The hosts, including Amari, wore the most striking outfits, as they were responsible for greeting the guests. This included Kou, as Amari’s daughter and the young face of NTEC’s family. For many guests, it was also their first time meeting Amari’s daughter, which sparked extra interest.

In other words, the event was a subtle introduction of Kou to the company’s network.

By the time Kou realized this, it was too late. While the event remained casual and she wasn’t expected to give any speeches, she still had to stand beside her mother and offer polite smiles as guests approached to greet them. It was fair to say Kou’s claim of being “tricked” had some merit.

Earlier that afternoon, after finishing at the beach and taking a shower, Kou had felt a slight sense of dread when Amari silently led her to a beauty parlor in the main building.

There, her hair was carefully styled into two small braids that swept behind her ears and joined at the back of her head, forming a half-up, half-down style often referred to as a “princess” hairdo.

Kou was then dressed in an elegant party dress with two layers: a sheer white overlay with delicate lace and a blue underlayer that shaded into a deeper hue toward the hem. It was clearly an expensive but charming dress.

She had nervously let Sora see her in it too. At his request, she gave a little twirl, which left him so overwhelmed that he leaned against a wall, exclaiming, “I can die without regrets now.”

But, moving on…

The dress was impeccably tailored to Kou’s figure, and she quickly realized it couldn’t have been prepared on such short notice.

“Mom… Did you plan all of this behind my back again?”
“Yes, because I knew you’d insist on something simpler if I told you!”
“That’s exactly what I don’t like about you!”

Kou retorted, frustrated by her mother’s secretive tendencies. But she also sensed that this was Amari’s way of trying to share a special moment, so she let it slide.

“I can’t believe you keep deciding things for me without even telling me…”
“Ahaha… It’s fine, you look adorable in it, Kou!”

A voice chimed in from behind, and then a hand gently patted her head. Turning around, she saw Hijiri standing there, holding two glasses of soft drinks.

“You did a great job with the greetings. Here, something to drink. You don’t mind ginger ale, right?”
“Oh, thank you. And sorry for dragging you into all of this.”
“Nah, it’s fine. I’m actually glad to wear a pretty dress like this!”

Hijiri grinned, looking down at her own dress. Amari had also arranged a dress for Hijiri, supposedly as a gesture of appreciation for Kaname. Hijiri’s dress was a long black gown with delicate white lace around the arms and a shawl, giving her a mature look that contrasted beautifully with her clear skin and brunette hair.

When Kaname saw his daughter dressed like this, he responded much like Sora had, leaning against the same wall as he struggled to contain his emotions. Somehow, both fathers seemed delighted to see their daughters so elegantly dressed.

“Well, just think of it as a token of appreciation for your dad, alright?”
“Yup, just see it that way!”

Hijiri and Amari chuckled as they tried to reassure Kou, their lightheartedness easing her frustration.
