Crim waited until the man was out of sight.
Then she hopped off the roof she was sitting on, letting out a long sigh.
“Umm, Crim..?”
“Oh, Juna, sorry for that. Did he do anything?”
As Juna fearfully approached her, Crim quickly eased her anger and smiled at her.
Her emotions had gotten a bit out of hand, so Crim tried to reassure Juna first, before speaking to the girl wearing a maid uniform with two Doppelgangers on her shoulders.
“Rouge, thanks for letting me know as well.”
“Ah… I’m just glad I could be of help.”
The young girl giggled as Crim patted her head, which also made Crim smile.
…In reality, all of the man’s movements had been tracked ever since he entered Nebel, just like various other suspected spies.
Because of that influx of suspicious people, Rouge had been instated as chief (in name only, as she was still being protected by the system), with Hina and Lyco as her aides, forming the Doppelganger defense unit.
Whenever an unregistered player entered the city, they would follow and track them to ensure they did not do anything suspicious.
If an issue arose, they would try to keep things under control until Crim or the others came to check, or the automatic city defenses kicked in.
“Just bear in mind that all three of ye are dear to us as well, so pray, do nothing reckless, alright?”
“Mhm, I’ll take a round to remind everyone!”
Saying that, Rouge trotted off to pass the message to the other Doppelgangers.
Crim watched that with a warm gaze…before turning to the east, looking in the direction of Wyndham.
…Just like Ryunosuke and the others had said, all of the areas apart from the neutral Starting City Wyndham and Starting Hill: Evergreen formed a Union together.
They chose to name themselves the Holy Kingdom Schwertrot.
The fallen empire had also been called Schwertrot, so they likely were trying to claim they were the true heirs to this land.
It was mainly formed by guilds who operated independently in the past, as well as the bulk of players that transferred over from the second server.
While they stood at odds in one aspect, they also had a shared interest, and by appealing to those two emotions, they had expanded their territory.
The first was the general distaste for first server players. It had taken little time for various factions to form in the second server, all of which were at constant war with each other, so they believed they were far superior in skill compared to the first server, which remained largely peaceful.
The shared interest was the fact that most of the continent was being ruled by Demon Lords. That was something the independent groups around the starting area complained about the most… Though Crim’s scouts there had heard some rather nasty rumors, with gangs forming to stop new players from leaving with threats of PK.
Either way, things were not looking good there.
There had also been an increase of terroristic suicide attacks from players across the United Kingdoms.
Their side likely knew that had almost no effect.
But just the fact that they had launched an attack forced Crim and the rest of the United Kingdoms to tighten their security, diverting their attention and resources away from other things.
After all, it did not matter if an NPC was the owner of a major shop or fulfilled an important role, if they were killed, that was it for them.
They would never come back, even if another NPC took over their duties. That was why Crim had also tightened security around the city.
All of that was their enemy’s plan, to slowly whittle them down. And it was a strategy that violated a tacit rule agreed upon by the first server players.
“Well, that doesn’t matter. I’ll just keep doing things my way.”
“…Crim?”
Crim stared into the sky as she muttered that, which confused Juna nearby.
“Oh, never mind that. It’s time for school, isn’t it? Let’s go.”
“…Okay!”
Crim patted the young girl’s head before holding her hand, guiding her in the direction of the castle standing amidst the lake.
