“Well then, I’ll apologize to Estea for being super late to today’s tea time later, but missing the cafeteria’s food would be a real tragedy, so I’m heading back now~!”
Since we were in her own atelier, Melua didn’t bother with a proper cleanup and instead ushered us out.
“Oh, but wait! Master, you didn’t just come to pick up Alfe, did you? You had something you wanted from me?”
“Yeah, I’ll tell you on the way. It’s nothing urgent we have to deal with today.”
I smiled at Melua’s consideration and glanced around her atelier. With a setup this well-equipped, I was sure I’d have no trouble gathering the materials I needed for the supplementary experiment in my report.
“Um, Senior Melua! I’d like to borrow that grimoire from earlier!”
Just as she was packing up her things to leave, Alfe suddenly raised her voice, as if the thought had just struck her.
“You mean the Jaadu Trishula one? That thing’s such a hassle—totally impractical in an actual fight, you know~?”
“Even so, I want to try it.”
Melua’s negative comment didn’t shake Alfe in the slightest.
“Well, I’m not using it anyway, so sure. Trying it out for yourself and deciding whether it’s worth it—that’s part of growing too.” With that, Melua handed the worn grimoire to Alfe.
“Thank you!” Alfe accepted it with both hands and held it tightly to her chest, like something precious.
Jaadu Trishula was a powerful composite spell combining fire, water, and lightning attributes.
To cast it, one needed the parallel processing ability to control all three elements simultaneously—something that required both natural aptitude and advanced skill. That said, Alfe was quite gifted when it came to constructing magical imagery, so handling the spell itself likely wouldn’t be an issue for her.
However, the spell took a long time to cast, and its effects were split into three stages. If even one stage was blocked by elemental resistance, the entire attack would be compromised. As Melua had said, it was more of a theoretical magic—impractical in actual combat.
Still, maybe Alfe saw potential in this cumbersome spell—one that ordinary mages wouldn’t even consider using in real battles. Maybe she knew that without taking risks like this, she wouldn’t be able to defeat Melua.
“Let’s win Zersteller.”
“Yeah. The mecha for that is almost finished, too.”
Standing next to me as usual, Alfe looked up—and when I met her gaze, her Pure Eye sparkled dazzlingly back at me.
On the way back to our respective dorms, I told Melua about the report the Professor had asked me to write, and she agreed to prepare the necessary materials for me.
“Sorry for making you go through all this.”
“No, no, no! I mean, if it’s to get a modified version of the Blood Grail that Master customized, this is nothing—not even close to an effort!”
Ah, right—I hadn’t actually decided who I was going to give it to, but handing it over to Melua wouldn’t cause any problems down the line. Her Pure Eye had no doubt already seen that my blood played a crucial role in the extraordinary performance of the Blood Grail. And more importantly, I could trust her not to go around blabbing about it.
For Melua, continuing to learn from my knowledge and techniques held far more value than exposing my secrets. That much was obvious.
“Well, as long as you’re not sending it off somewhere to be analyzed or anything, I don’t mind if you use it for personal purposes.”
“Of course, of course! And even if it’s ready in time for Zersteller, I won’t use it, so don’t worry! If I made my unit even stronger, it’d be like I was cheating!”
“I appreciate it.”
It was a relief to have someone who could pick up on things without needing everything spelled out. Now that the report was more or less on track, I could focus tonight on coming up with an arranged version of the simplified spell formula. Once that was done, even without testing the real thing, I’d practically have the entire framework of the report finished. That thought alone made me feel a bit lighter.
After seeing Melua off as she headed back to the noble dorm, Alfe gently took my hand.
“Can we take a little detour?”
“Sure. Since we’re out anyway, how about I make us a late-night snack?”
“I want fluffy pancakes ♪”
I wasn’t entirely focused on the mecha’s backpack right now, and I could use a change of pace myself. Smiling, I nodded to Alfe’s request. I was sure Hom and the others would be happy too.
“Then let’s stop by that place from the other day on the way back.”
“Okay.”
Alfe leaned into my arm, her voice brimming with joy—when suddenly:
“Master!! Alfe, we’ve got a problem!”
Melua came running back toward us, looking completely panicked.
“What’s wrong, Melua?”
“Estea’s gone1!!”

- Robinxen: Is this a kidnapping?! No wait that’s probably impossible given who it is… after all she’s a broken cheat character who has destroyed any semblance of power scaling in this setting so far.
