“Alfe and Hom are switching rooms? If Farah’s already agreed, then of course it’s fine!”

The next morning, when I brought up the idea to Aunt Ur, she readily agreed with a warm smile.

“I was wondering when this would happen! It’s already been two months, hasn’t it? You’ve all done well sticking it out this long.”

Apparently, Aunt Ur had been worried about Alfe ever since she missed out on the lottery for a three-person room. She looked truly pleased as she swayed her large, furry frame, cheerfully granting her approval to both Hom and I.

“Thank you for being so understanding. So, about the arrangements—”
“Oh, no need for any paperwork or formalities. All of you are my precious kids, and I trust you.”
“Thank you very much.”

I had left early, assuming we’d need to handle some kind of application, but it turned out there was no need for such a process. Room exchanges or visits weren’t prohibited here; in fact, they seemed to happen fairly often.

If that’s the case, perhaps regularly switching rooms could be a good idea. The academy’s security was solid, and Hom didn’t seem to sense any danger to my safety either.

“Have you already spoken to Alfe about this?”
“Not yet, but I’m about to—”
“She’s bound to cry tears of joy.”

Knowing Alfe’s sensitive nature, I could imagine how deeply she’d appreciate this. I wasn’t eager to see her cry, but if they were happy tears, I wouldn’t mind at all.

“Leafa!”

While chatting with Aunt Ur, I noticed Alfe waving her hand enthusiastically as she approached us.

“Good morning, Aunt Ur.”
“Good morning, Alfe. I have some good news for you, so listen up.”
“Good news?”

Alfe tilted her head, her eyes blinking in curiosity at Aunt Ur’s words.

“Go on, Leafa. Tell her,” Aunt Ur urged me with a knowing glance.

I looked up at Alfe and said, “This weekend, how about we spend some time together for the first time in a while?”
“Huh?”

Alfe’s eyes lit up reflexively, and I could see her cheeks start to soften into a smile. Encouraged by her reaction, I continued.

“I just got permission from Aunt Ur. Starting tomorrow night, you’ll be staying in my room.”
“Really?!”

Even as she asked, Alfe grabbed my hand tightly, her excitement spilling over.

“I’ll be staying in Lady Alfe’s room in the meantime,” Hom chimed in softly, reading Alfe’s glance with her usual sensitivity.

Alfe blinked twice and then looked up at me as if to confirm.

“Wait, so… it’ll just be me and Leafa?”
“That’s right.”
“Leafa, I love you!”

As she said it, Alfe threw her arms around me, squeezing me tightly. The warmth of her cheek against mine was enough to guess that her face was flushed. Her affection made me smile despite myself.

“Thank you too, Hom!”

While still holding onto me, Alfe reached out to pull Hom into a hug as well, enveloping us both in her arms. Watching this from behind, Farah burst into laughter.

“Nyaha! So much love this early in the morning!”
“I can’t help it—I love her so much!”
“Yeah, I know. You talk about Leafa nonstop every day.”
“Ehehe.”

Alfe giggled shyly as she slowly loosened her embrace, stepping back with a contented look on her face.

“Well then, let’s get along this weekend, Hom!”
“I’m looking forward to it.”

Farah extended a hand toward Hom for a handshake, which Hom accepted with a smile. For a fleeting moment, a shimmer of light flickered in Farah’s Magic Eyes, as though she had glimpsed some subtle emotion within Hom’s expression.

Farah’s ability to precisely control her Magic Eyes was impressive; it was clear she had a deep understanding of its nature. To use it for something as nuanced as reading Hom’s subtle expressions was nothing short of ingenious.

“…Huh? Farah, did you already know about this?”

Alfe, who had been watching Hom and Farah interact with a delighted expression, suddenly turned to Farah, seemingly remembering something.

“Yeah, Hom talked to me about it yesterday. I’ve been wanting to chat with her properly anyway, seeing as we’re both in the military department. It worked out perfectly.”
“Ah, I see… Thank you, everyone.”

It seemed the arrangement had been a surprise for Alfe. She looked at us, smiling shyly with joy, as if completely unaware of the plan beforehand. That smile of hers was so radiant that it made everyone around her feel a little lighter, a little happier. Even Aunt Ur seemed pleased, watching us warmly from the side.

“You’re welcome.”
“This is what dorm life is all about, isn’t it? Let’s keep doing things like this. Right, Aunt Ur?”
“Of course. As long as you talk to me first, I’ll never say no.”

Two months and a bit into our time at the dorms, it finally felt like we were settling into a rhythm. Things had become more comfortable and familiar, and I felt a sense of belonging growing.

From now on, I should also make an effort to carve out time for more personal matters. Once the specialized courses for each field started, things were bound to get a lot busier and more challenging.
