“…Leafa. What exactly do you want me to do?”

After the plan was fully explained, Alfe spoke up. The three acting as decoys would focus more on defense than offense. To turn the tables, the offensive efforts of the three of us were crucial.

“Alfe, I need you to work with Hom to prepare the Blitzraid.”
“Figured as much. Let’s give it our all, Hom!”

Alfe seemed to already know what was coming. The technique we had honed under Master Tao Ran’s guidance was indispensable now.

“Huh? That Blitz-something—what is it?”
“It’s basically a spell that turns a person into a cannonball. It requires charging a launch platform with lightning magic energy1, which is why I need Alfe to assist,” I explained to Vannabelle, keeping my words as simple as possible. She gave me a confused look, but Numelin chimed in with her own interpretation: “It’s like a big cannon thingy~2!” That seemed to make things click for Vannabelle.

“But, if I may, Master, my Blitzraid cannot eliminate all of Class A at once.”
“Exactly,” I replied with a nod. “Which is why I’ll be riding with you.”

I began outlining my role in the plan. With this frail body of mine, even wielding Ars Magna wouldn’t provide a decisive attack option. Moreover, using magic with high lethality risked disqualification—and I didn’t want that, either.

I had already chosen the spell I would use.

“I’ll observe Class A’s formation from above and strike with Flare Rain.”

The spell in question formed a vortex of flames through incantation, blossoming like a fiery flower that unleashed countless beams of heat, raining down on the battlefield.

By observing the enemy’s positions from above, I could significantly improve its accuracy, ensuring the single opportunity we had was utilized to its fullest.

“Ha! Fire against fire, huh?”
“Nyaha~. So we’re just the decoys to buy time for that thing to go off.”

Vannabelle and Farah laughed at the simplicity of the plan. The fact that they could still laugh at a time like this was a testament to their resilience.

“Exactly. Stir up as much confusion in Class A as you can before retreating. As long as they don’t figure out the Blitzraid, the victory will be ours.”
“So, we’re the bait, and you lot are the main act in this plan,” Vannabelle remarked with a sharp edge.
“Is that a problem?” I asked, just to make sure.

Vannabelle shook her head, her long ears twitching upright as she flashed a confident grin.

“Nah. You’re putting the three of us out as decoys, so you better not screw it up.”
“Of course not. This is a plan to win.”

“Attention, Class F—” Rizel’s amplified voice echoed from above through his sound projection spell. “It’s time to resume. You should be thankful for the reprieve you’ve been given.”

That arrogance, that overconfidence—it was Class A’s hallmark. And it was also their weakness. Even from this disadvantaged position, we had a chance to turn things around.

“So, what’s the plan, cowardly leader Vannabelle? Gonna hide back there forever?”
“Shut it! You’re the ones flinging spells from afar! What’s that sword of yours for, decoration!?”

Vannabelle’s retort was deafening despite it being her natural voice.

“Oho~. Finally, some action!” Drawn by the escalating argument, Ms. Matilda approached us on her broom. “Stalemates are so dull, so I thought I’d spice things up a bit~!” she announced cheerfully before unleashing an Explosion spell3.

The searing heat swept through the area, erasing what remained of the scorched forest. In its wake, nothing but smoldering ashes remained.

“Hah! Looks like they’re closer than I thought,” Vannabelle said, laughing as the silhouettes of Class A’s formation emerged through the haze of ash.

With a bold laugh, she pointed her crimson magic sword directly at Rizel.

“I’m coming for you, so get ready for a beating! Let’s go, Nume!”
“Aye~~!”

With a battle cry, Numelin raised her massive battle axe and charged straight toward Class A.

“They’re coming! Hold your ground and prepare to intercept!” At Rizel’s command, the magic-focused students of Class A adjusted their staffs, aiming their spells directly at Numelin.

“Take thissssss!” With a mighty leap, Numelin swung her battle axe overhead, slamming it into the ground. The impact sent shockwaves through the area, shaking the earth and kicking up a dense cloud of dust and ash.

From the vantage point of the high ridge where Alfe, Hom, and I were stationed, the wind worked in our favor, carrying the debris away from us. Through the swirling haze of dust, Class A’s silhouettes became strikingly visible.

It seemed that fortune was beginning to favor us.

Footnotes:

  1. Robinxen: Electromagnetic Cannon! Railgun! Except less cool and for firing a person… Lame.
  2. Robinxen: Was this not implied with the “cannonball” part?
  3. Robinxen: Doesn’t this feel like unfair? That’s literally a third party stripping away a field advantage…
