That day marked the announcement of the results for both military training and magic studies.

The first period’s military training had been moved to a training ground near the port, the same location as the magic studies class.

“When the location changes, it makes me a bit nervous. I wonder what we’ll be doing today?”
“Hmm, looks like Gide is preparing something. Maybe it’s a mock battle?” Farah replied while carefully observing their surroundings, responding to Alfe, who seemed a bit restless.

Following Farah’s gaze, I saw Gide, the strongest in the class and a member of the bearkin, silently carrying what appeared to be weapons.

Even so, he seemed to be doing it voluntarily, but it must be quite a burden to do it all by himself each time.

“I shall go help him.”
“Oh, please do, Hom.”

Perhaps noticing the look on my face, Hom volunteered to assist and ran over to Gide. Since both of them were usually quiet, Gide accepted Hom’s help without much hesitation.

He didn’t seem to mind being approached, so he was probably like Hom and me, comfortable being on his own. The way he discreetly took care of others might actually reflect how he didn’t like being taken care of himself.

After spending a week in the same class, I was starting to understand my classmates’ characteristics bit by bit. There were still plenty of students whose names and faces I couldn’t match, but it didn’t seem like much of an issue, as I could remember them when necessary.

That said, thinking about next month’s interclass mock training, it might be better to memorize at least some of them to avoid trouble in a pinch. Then again, as long as I stick with Alfe, that might not be a concern.

“Alright, looks like everyone’s here!”

With a cheerful, deep voice, Mr. Tanutanu arrived at the training ground. His tail, peeking out from his uniform, was swaying energetically from side to side, indicating that he was in a particularly good mood.

“As the midterm results showed, we’re done with basic training. Starting today, we’ll move on to mock battles, taking each of your abilities into account.”
“Been waiting for this!”

Before Mr. Tanutanu even finished speaking, Vannabelle eagerly raised her hand.

“I’m taking this one on!” With great enthusiasm, Vannabelle pointed directly at me.

“Huh…?” Alfe reacted before I could, and soon after, the rest of the class began to murmur.

“Vannabelle, you weren’t listening to me, were you?”
“I was, Mr. Tanutanu. We’re doing mock battles, right?”
“Belle~, you’re missing the part about ‘considering each person’s abilities,’ you know~,” Numelin gently added, clarifying Mr. Tanutanu’s earlier point, which Vannabelle seemed to have missed.

Even so, Vannabelle kept pointing at me, looking unsatisfied.

“What!? But if that’s the case, this girl could only go up against someone like Romeo or Isaac. I’m gonna whip her into shape myself!”
“Be mindful of the difference in physical ability, Vannabelle.”

Mr. Tanutanu’s voice was stern as he reprimanded her, and both Romeo and Isaac shot her irritated looks.

Perhaps she did have some sense of her responsibilities as the class representative, as Vannabelle finally shrugged, sighed, and looked away from me.

“Yeah, yeah. As if the class rep would bully someone weaker. Looks like you don’t have anyone to pway wiwh, eh, shortie~”

Sigh… It seems Vannabelle just can’t resist mocking me. At this point, it’s too much trouble to argue, so I’ll let her say whatever she wants.

“I will handle this.” Just as I thought that, Hom stepped forward, a stern expression on her face, confronting Vannabelle.

“In that case, I will take my master’s place and face you. The mock battle is a class competition… If I work hard enough for both myself and my master, no one will have any complaints.”

Even though her emotional restraint was in effect, Hom’s usually monotone way of speaking could easily be interpreted as quite intimidating. She was, in fact, angry on my behalf right now.

“Look, Hom’s mad at you, Belle~”
“I’m not scared!”
“That’s not the point, Belle~. Just apologize already~”

Despite being Vannabelle’s friend, Numelin seemed to have a sensible head on her shoulders.

“…Vannabelle versus Hom, huh…”

Mr. Tanutanu, who had been silent for a while, let out a thoughtful murmur. The other classmates’ attention shifted back to him.

“Well, fine. I’ll allow it.”
“As expected, Mr. Tanutanu, you get it!”

Vannabelle started to skip over to the cart loaded with weapons, but Numelin quickly grabbed her arm to stop her.

“There’s more, Belle~”
“This time, to prepare for next month’s mock training, the battles will be in pairs.”
“Got it! Then I’m teaming up with Nume!”
“Alright~”

It seemed like Numelin had anticipated this, and she agreed without any reluctance. That left the issue of who would team up with Hom…

“Then, maybe I can team up with Hom?”
“For the first round, magic will be prohibited. That would make the skill difference between Alfe and Numelin too large.”

Mr. Tanutanu crossed his arms, looking a bit troubled. He wasn’t the only one unsure of how to proceed—we were all in the same boat.

“…What should we do, Master?” Hom asked, looking to me for guidance.

Just then, a helping hand reached out. It was Farah.

“I’ll team up with Hom. I’ve got a few things I’d like to test out,” she said, stepping forward.
“Thank you, Farah.”
