Chapter 28: And the Winner is…

The 50 academy students were all standing before me. This was perfect. This seal is the perfect handicap. Cause I can take them all out without killing them. Hopefully…

They all charged at me like maniacs. They had no coordination at all.

“[Raikiri]!”

As I swung my spear, a white light engulfed the arena. It was so bright that nobody could keep their eyes open. When the light disappeared, everyone was shocked. I was standing in the same place, but everyone else was collapsed on the floor.

“Im… possible…”

Raikiri is a level 60 mass AoE lightning spell. It’s used to quickly clear trash mobs. It hits everything inside it’s range, and given how close to one another these guys were packed, I was pretty sure I’d get all of them. Normally this would kill them, but because of this seal, the force behind my blast was minimized.

“How!? Just one attack? But the seal…”

“As if this pathetic thing can contain my power.”

“Kuh…”

The chairman was a bottle of nerves. He didn’t want to believe his eyes. But after a moment he calmed down.

“Very well. It is only fair your strength should be acknowledged. If you can defeat my champion, I will grant you the prize. Someone with your talent probably isn’t satisfied with just this, am I right?”

I’m not doing this for the prize though. I doubt you got anything useful. Unless it’s a new bow. Tia could use an upgrade. And not handing the prize over after that statement won’t happen. The audience won’t let it slide.

“Well, hurry up! I don’t have all day.”

In the next moment staff people came in to drag all the bodies out of the arena. He sure must have confidence in this champion.

“GuuaaaaeeggggaaaayyyaayyiiiiooooOOoooo!!!”

An incredible distorted shout came from one of the gates. The chairman was panicked.

“Fools! Why did you release it? We haven’t finished clearing the arena yet!”

“It’s… it’s not our fault. It’s acting on its’ own.”

The gates of the arena have been forcefully blown away.

“You gotta be shiting me!”

I recognized this beast. This is bad. Really bad. This thing is… Ars Nova. A level 100 humanoid raid boss. I’m confident I can beat it… but it’s a really annoying boss. And there’s this seal too. Not to mention the still unconscious students. This is gonna be though. How did these guys even capture it in the first place?

No. Now is not the time for that. His ice cold figure is approaching. A beast made completely out of ice like crystals with sharp fangs and claws. The freezing chill started to reach me. This beast… with each step the floor freezes instant.

“OOOOOOaaaAAAAAaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!”

“Chairman, it broke it’s shackels by himself!”

I can’t really take my eyes of the raid to listen to their discussion. His eyes were 2 ruby red gems stuffed into his sockets. The only thing I can do right now is, like always to attack. I extended my hand forward and chanted.

“[Infernal Bullets]!”

A barrage of flaming bullets were unleashing upon Ars Nova. His sinister eyes emitted a dazzling red light almost instantaneous. In fact, his eyes flashed at the same time as my spell was about to hit his body.

However, my bullets were neither blocked nor evaded. Rather, they simply broke apart.

“Crap. I was hoping it wasn’t like in the game.”

Ars Nova was a raid boss completely immune to magic attacks. Well not all magic attacks. Spells lvl 80 or lower will be nullified. Pure mages often skip this raid for that sole reason. Let’s try this then.

“[Chainsaw Burst]!”

I threw my spear into a golden spinning chainsaw. Again, his eyes unleashed a flash. And at that moment an abnormality happened to my attack. This phenomenon is like crystalization. It literally froze my attack in place and then shattered it with his claws. Damn it… I’m not strong enough to push through. My spear once again manifested in my hand, but this is troublesome.

The legend of people turning into stone from just a glance of Medusa is quite famous among the Greek Mythology, but looks like the Ars Nova’s Demon Eyes are an ice-crystal version of that legend. The monster extended his right arm and created a huge double edge ice axe. He’s making his move. But that was a diversion. I realized too late, his attack patterns aren’t the same as in the game. His red eyes fired a powerful energy beam straight at me.

“Guuuah!”

An acute pain ran through my right arm… no… the feeling of an foreign substance should be much more precise. The feeling of my body being mine yet not mine at the same time――that being the truth, my right arm from the elbow to wrist has all turned into crystal. And it kept advancing.

“Don’t take me lightly!!!”

I moved my left arm which was still fine and intercept the beam with my Chaoscaliber. Eventually the beam stopped, but my right was completely crystalized. And I also took considerable damage.

pant……pant……damn it, what is happening to my right arm…!?”

Ars Nova let out a fiendish smile as if he obtained a great success over me. However in the next moment, I twisted my scared face into a huge grin.

“Naive. Did you really think this would work on me?”

I forcefully clenched my right fist and all the ice crystals cracked and broke apart. Just like Petrified, this crystalization is nothing more than a status effect. And those are useless against me. Time to end this. I dashed straight for him and pushed him straight into the air. If he’s airborne I don’t need to be worried about the collateral.

“It’s over! [Celestial Arrow]!”

Celestial Arrow was a level 120 skill. It was one of the strongest moves in game. It covered my whole body in light and propelled me straight to Ars Nova. With my spear pointed forward, a giant arrow figure was wrapped around me. The moment it made contact with his body, it completely shattered him. All his ice bits fell on the ground. It was my win.

“Now I did it…”

I wasn’t planning to go all out like that. This f̲u̲c̲k̲i̲n̲g̲ seal forced me to use a skill normally I would rarely use. As I was still focused on myself, the cheers of tens of thousands of people entered my ear. If I was a gladiator right now I should give a pose, but I don’t care for s̲h̲i̲t̲ like that. I just want to go home now and take a rest. No. Before that I need to collect the reward. I’m not letting this pass and I am curious how the hell did he manage to capture a raid boss, even if a lower one.

After a while and reluctantly, the chairman got down to the arena. He was slightly trembling. He was afraid of me.

“Congratulations. That was… a splendid display. Is there a particular type of weapon you desire?”

“I could use a bow.”

In that instant, the chairman clapped his hands and the butler came running with a fancy silver bow. Oh this is actually neat. It’s a level 35 rare bow. It’s 100 times better than the twig Tia is using. I was pretty satisfied with it.

“Okay. This will do. And one more thing.”

I got close to him and whispered in his ear.

“If you cheat again before my eyes, I might not be so forgiving next time. Nobility needs to acknowledge power regardless where it comes from.”

And with that I turned my back to him and returned to the female knight who was jumping and was ecstatic.
