Oh boy! Levia sure knows how to cook a meal. I slept like a log last night. I might actually enjoy having a maid. After last night’s rest I feel totally refreshed. On today’s agenda was visiting this Royal Academy and find something useful in their books. I let Elenore and Tia rest and went by myself.

The Royal Academy looked like a miniature castle. With the king’s special permission I could enter the campus and have full access. Although it does have that fantasy feeling in it, it was still a school at the end of the day. Looking around my surroundings I can see people entering the gate one after another. Most of them were wearing a black robe type school uniform.

I took a few steps and headed towards the gate myself. One of the black robes stood in my way.

“Hey, this place is for nobles only. I can tell you aren’t one, so get lost. This isn’t a tourist attraction.”

“I was granted special permission to enter here.”

“Kek. Looks like these days they’ll give out those to just about any mongrel.”

What’s his deal? This guy has tan skin and short white hair. He’s probably in his 20’s. And judging by how his uniform is shaped around his body, he’s got quite some muscles too. Is he offended by my tails or something? Come to think of it, I do recall in the game lore that there was a deep grudge between nobles and commoners. Not that I care right now. I try ignoring him, but…

“Oi! You! I’m talking to you!”

I turned my head around. Yup, he was definitely glaring at me. Ugh. Trouble just seems coming my way. I need to put him in his rightful place.

“Oh, sorry. You were so weak, I didn’t notice you at all.”

“Wha… what did you say!? I, Maximillian Volgris, son of duke Volgris… you dare call me weak?”

“Well, do you stop and take notice of each and every ant that crosses your path?”

“Oi, you b̲i̲t̲c̲h̲! Apologize right now!”

He opened his palm and chanted some magic. Black flames gathered in his hand.

“That is…”

“Are you surprised? Good. If you beg for your life and lick my boots I’m willing to let you live, hahahaha!”

Of course I’m surprised. I’m surprised of how weak that actually is. You just conjured the level 25 spell Demon’s Breath. That thing is nothing more than a candle light before me. Actually… this is the perfect time to test something. In this world you can actually manipulate mana and bend it to your will. In the game you could only use it to cast spells. But here… you can also redirect it. Let’s see what happens if I do it like this…

Guaaah!

In the next moment, the rude fellow was blown away and crashed into the gate wall. Soon, he was on all fours.

“You… what the hell did you do?”

“I blinked.”

Literally. I redirected all my mana towards my eyelashes. The moment I blinked I generated a powerful gust of wind. My original intention was to only blow his flame out. I didn’t expect it would push his whole body. Using mana like this doesn’t even consume it. It’s pretty nice kek. He tried getting up, but I think he broke a bone or two, because he couldn’t.

“Let that be a lesson. Ants like you will only get blown away.”

And with those words I left him and entered the academy. The people around that saw us had mixed feelings, but nobody else tried to stop me. And so… it’s to search for that library.

This place is like a maze. It’s nothing like a modern library. Basically, there isn’t a clerk to help you or point out a book. You gotta find it yourself. I want general info about this world, learn about it’s level system but… so far no luck. This might take longer than expected. Ugh. Calm down. This isn’t the time to be acting frantic.

“I thought I recognized that figure. So it truly is you!”

I turned around and followed the voice.

“Oh, you are…”

It’s the female knight. I remember her. She got to witness me killing and entire Astral wave. But what’s she doing here?

“Long time no see!”

“Yeah. It’s good to see you again. But, what are you doing here?”

“Haha! Ever since that incident, the royal knights took an interest in me and I was given a special invitation to come to the academy for the anual Slaughter Fest.”

Slaughter Fest? I tilted my head. What the hell is that?

“Lady Izuna, is it possible you have never heard of the Slaughter Fest?”

“Nope. Never heard of it.”

“It’s a tournament organized by the academy. This academy has a coliseum and each year, a tournament is held. The winner will get a powerful weapon as the prize. Usually it’s the nobles that always win it, but this time I am sure victory will go to the common people. It just has too!”

She looks pretty determined.

“What about you? What are you doing here?”

“I’m trying to look on some books about the leveling system.”

“Are you perhaps looking for the legend of the Old hermit, that managed to level without killing monsters for exp? If so, you want find it in any book. The story itself is banned.”

This is getting interesting.

“Can you give me more details?”

“I can, but only after the tournament. Say, why don’t you come and watch and cheer me on?”

“Sure. Why not?”

It’s not like I’m getting anywhere with these books anyway.

“Yeah, this year also looks like a success.”

In the VIP room of the academy’s oldest and biggest arena『Grand Coliseum』, the sponsor Wiss Bernstein said that with satisfaction. A noble with long red hair and blue eyes.

Wiss sat on armchair in the VIP room while wearing a good tailored jet-black robe with gaudy ornaments. He looked just like a ringmaster reigning over an underground-type dungeon.

Moreover he was looking at the spectators crowding the Grand Coliseum through a Crystal so his presence was all the more just like that of an evil person.

“Seriously, I never thought so many people would be assembled here. Although it’s a shame commoners haven’t learned their lesson yet.”

Sitting beside Wiss was a dwarf, who seemed quite poor if compared to the dressed up sponsor. He didn’t had the dwarves trait, the beard, so it might not be difficult to think of him as a human.

“Most will only watch, though.”

“Truly sinful.”

“Excuse me, Chairman Bernstein.”

A single man entered the room with movements just like that of stewards working under Great Nobles. He might truly be a butler as he was wearing a tailcoat.

“The preparation you requested has been taken care of.”

“Excellent. After all, we must make sure that winner of this tournament must be a noble. We must stick to tradition.”

“Yes sir. I can assure you, nobody will suspect a thing.”

The dwarf brought his hand up and scratched the back of his neck.

“Chairman Bernstein, is this tournament…”

“This year is just adjustments. There aren’t any candidates worthy of unleashing our beast. So don’t expect much this year too.”

“Such a shame. I was hoping some cocky b̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲ would appear so I could see the rumored beast with the Demonic Eyes.”

“Come now. There’s only one hour left until the fest begins. Let’s get ready.”
