(Hmm, that might actually work!)

Mira saw a shining new possibility after witnessing those escorts entering alone through the rear entrance.

She could easily pass as one of them, as confirmed by the gentleman she met earlier who was essentially a master of the red-light district. If she posed as one of them, she would be able to enter the castle on her own without standing out.

Only one hurdle stood in the way of that plan. Whatever it was that the girls showed the receptionist as they entered. The most likely answer was that it proved that they were there on a personal visit, like a membership card, which the receptionist verified.

Mira did not know the exact details, she only saw that it was important. Maybe it was even required to get access to the lodging rooms inside, for the safety of the other guests staying there.

The castle looked high class enough to warrant thorough checks for access. If Mira wanted to truly pass for an escort, she would also need one of those.

(Hmmm, where do I even start now…)

Once again, Mira groaned as her plans began to fall short.

As she mulled things over, she noticed another person entering through the rear entrance, instantly realizing there might be more options, and running up closer to spy from closer to the entrance.

This time it was a man entering, and Wooftson relayed his conversation with the receptionist to Mira again. He signed up for the most popular and reasonably priced two hour plan, and with the paperwork done, he added ecstatically, “And I’ll be having Jasmine from Smilemiem.”

(I get it, so that’s how it works.)

If women could be called to visit someone in the castle, it also stood to reason that there were men alone waiting for them inside. Which meant that it was normal for guests to enter alone too.

(Okay, let’s do it that way!)

She had found an alternative, she could also enter as a guest and not as an escort.

Then again, there were lodging rooms in the castle, so some guests would stay there for the night as well, creating another reason why people would enter on their own.

The overall vibe of the place had clouded her judgment, making her jump to such conclusions. She reflected on that as she trotted over to the entrance. And then took notice of a signboard near it.

(Wait what..?!)

It was a list of all the costs of staying in the castle. The numbers were all very shocking…but in a way perfectly in line with what one would expect.

While it could be used as an inn, it was still the building in the center of the red-light district. No one would ever stay there with the intention of being alone the entire time. If they went in solo, it was with the implicit desire to call on a girl. That extended to the prices, as all services offered came bundled with that.

“Hmm…both options have their difficulties, what should we do…”
“What should we do indeed, woof.”

A distance away from the castle, Mira sat down on a bench, still embracing Wooftson, and pondered how to get into the castle.

There were two main options.

The first was to use her current appearance to its fullest extent, and infiltrate the castle while posing as an escort. That came with the downside that all the escorts she saw carried some form of identity card.

Security was tight inside the castle, and it was dubious at best whether they would let an unknown girl through without any form of checks. Obtaining one for herself would mean either going to a brothel directly, or calling on an escort and somehow convincing her to let Mira borrow hers.

Then again, she did not know how quickly she would receive her own card, and she would need a convincing excuse if she wanted to expedite that. Borrowing a card would also mean implicating an innocent girl.

(I guess going as a guest would be better after all.)

That was the second option. More straightforward, and without so much fuss. There was only one little problem with that. Every plan, from the cheapest to the most expensive, came bundled with a call-on escort.

If she refused to do that, despite having paid the high prices to stay in the castle, she would only raise suspicion to herself. After all, if all she wanted was a place to spend the night, there were many other places better suited for that.

But making use of those services was not so easy either.

(I really don’t want to call a man over.)

All sorts of lust were aggregated together in the red-light district, so obviously there were also plenty of establishments aimed at women.

Mira’s objective there was to find August, so she had not been looking at the regular brothels entirely by choice. But another detail of the red-light district was that it was divided in east and west halves, one for men and the other for women.

The castle was right in the divide between the two. That meant that there were plans for women to stay at the castle too, with male escorts who could come. All of that was carefully planned by the castle already.

(But wait…I think I also saw some yuri yuri couples inside, so maybe that’s also an option?!)

Just as Mira despaired that it was doomed, she saw a new possibility. In a city with such loose morality, establishments for women to enjoy the company of fellow women had to exist.

If she found one, then maybe…and she had to stop her thoughts, after all, that was not the issue.

(No no no, it doesn’t matter if it’s a man or a woman, I can’t have anyone with me!)

Once she was in the castle, she would have to begin searching for August and arrest him. She could not just sit around doing nothing, and that also meant that she would be gone from her room if someone came.

Then that person would knock and knock to no avail, maybe even reporting it to the staff in case she had fallen unconscious in the room. Which would reveal she had left it.

They would be curious to know where she had gone, maybe even starting a search. The castle was heavily surveyed and filled with security devices and spells, so they would quickly find her.

All of that ruckus could end up alerting August as well.

Then what if she stayed in the room until the person arrived?

She had absolutely no intention of following through with such a visit. But it would also be strange to leave them hanging once they arrived. The only realistic option would be to put them to sleep, and then go on her search for August.

She nodded sagely, that was a good idea. But after some more deliberation she realized it was far more problematic than she thought.

She was essentially calling someone over with the intention of drugging them. The only reason why she had thought that was an acceptable thing was because of her mission.

“Hmmmm… If I could only delay them as much as..!”
