The air exploded with a sudden bang. The deep, resonant hum, like thunder crashing across a clear sky, shook people’s heads and made their ears ache. A fierce gale swept away the smoke and dust, leaving everything looking startlingly clear.
Lilith looked at the blood-red barrier blocking her fist and clicked her tongue softly. Just as the Saints in her previous world could wield domains, the Saint-realm powerhouses of this world could also use a special ability known as a [Manifestation].
It was like the enormous phantom tree that had previously appeared behind Daoist Kumu. And at that moment, a faint wolf-shaped phantom also stood behind Landon. However, perhaps because his realm was unstable, the phantom appeared extremely dim.
But under Lilith’s deliberate control, Landon was still an entire major realm above her. Even so, the mere curtain of light projected by that phantom had managed to block most of the force behind Lilith’s punch.
“Naive. Do you really think you’ve got me beat?” Between life and death, Landon finally came to his senses and recovered from his fear, becoming calm once more.
His eyes, however, remained bloodshot, and his expression was tinged with madness. There was no trace left of the refined, scholarly elegance of the teacher-like man Lilith had first encountered. Instead, he looked more like a drunken, crazed gambler.
“I don’t know what you really are, but I’m not so easy to defeat!”
“What I admire most about you is your ability to deceive yourself.” Lilith raised her eyes calmly, a hint of ridicule in their depths.
Landon was still somewhat stunned, unable to understand why Lilith was looking at him that way. But in the next instant, he couldn’t help coughing up a large mouthful of blood.
He lowered his head and stared in horror at the depression already caved into his abdomen, asking in confusion, “Wh… why?”
He had clearly blocked most of the force. Why had he still been injured? Could it be that even the small portion of force that remained had been enough to seriously injure him?
“Because the only reason you weren’t killed by that punch was that I didn’t want to kill you with one punch.” Lilith suddenly extended her hand, curling her five fingers into claws as she seized the blood-red barrier. Then she violently tore downward.
A sharp, teeth-grating screech rang out. To Landon’s horror, Lilith had actually ripped the barrier apart with her bare hand. “Let me ask you again. Are you ready to grit your teeth? Because this is going to hurt.”
Lilith drove another punch into Landon’s abdomen, which was now completely undefended. That spot had already been caved in, and under this punch, it sank even deeper, perfectly illustrating what it meant for one’s chest and back to be pressed together.
“Cough…” Landon curled up, coughing out blood and fragments of flesh once again. He could feel that this punch had been considerably weaker than the one before, which was why he had not died outright.
Just as the girl had said, what she wanted was not *death*, but *suffering*. And Landon was suffering terribly now, both physically and psychologically. Yet his obsession, born from years of planning, prevented him from collapsing so easily.
“Damn it… How could I possibly… fall here…?” He nearly ground his teeth to pieces as he forced himself back onto his feet. “I haven’t lost… I haven’t lost!”
Behind him, the wolf-shaped phantom suddenly threw back its head and let out a heaven-shaking howl before rapidly expanding. Thirty meters, three hundred meters, eventually reaching up to 3 kilometers.
The clouds hung from its shoulders. When it looked down upon Lilith, it seemed as though it were looking down upon an insignificant ant.
“You’re going with this trick?” Lilith did not bother looking up at the enormous wolf-shaped phantom. Holding her head up was tiring. Instead, she stared at Landon before her, and a strange smile suddenly curled across her lips. “I like it.”
The moment the words were spoken, her shadow began to move. Like spilled ink, it rapidly spread outward. It spread farther and farther, to an unknown distance and extent, until it seemed as though the entire city had been enveloped by the girl’s shadow.
Then, as though a two-dimensional drawing had suddenly transformed into a three-dimensional object, the shadow abruptly rose upright and became tangible. It was a giant dragon. A pitch-black dragon.
The giant dragon spread its wings. They were so enormous that it seemed as though the very sky would be torn apart by them. While the sky did not literally tear apart, the curtain of darkness that the Blood Essence had deliberately cast over the city was suddenly torn apart by the colossal dragon.
The curtain of darkness had been meant to block out the sunlight, because whether they were blood demons or the black-robed people who had been transformed, they could only display their full strength in darkness.
And now that the curtain had been torn apart, sunlight poured down. Yet the people of Maplefall Town still did not receive the sun’s mercy.
The dragon’s enormous body once again blocked out the sunlight, casting a colossal shadow over the ground that enveloped everything. Only a pair of blazing golden pupils remained visible, like a newly risen sun that inspired instinctive awe.
“What… what is that?”
The people of this world had never seen a dragon, much less a majestic and terrifying creature of such magnitude. Thus, all they could do was stare upward in a daze, instinctively uttering exclamations of wonder without even realizing it.
Quite a few ordinary people had already knelt down humbly, praising the arrival of a god.
The scarf around Lilith’s neck began to sway once more. At this moment, the Demon Emperor, now known as Little Gray, cautiously cast a glance toward the dragon and couldn’t help trembling again.
She had once been quite proud of her imposing true form. But compared to the terrifying shadow that now covered the heavens, she was nothing more than a frog at the bottom of a well and a bird in a cage.
“This…” Landon stared upward blankly, unable even to form a coherent sentence.
The black shadow of that giant dragon was simply too terrifying. Compared to his own Manifestation, it was like a mighty lion standing before a Teddy that could do nothing but bark.
“This is also a Manifestation? But you clearly don’t even have spiritual energy. How…”
“I told you, don’t use your common sense to try to judge me.” Lilith advanced once more.
Landon was startled and no longer dared to clash head-on with Lilith. He stretched out his hand, intending to command his Manifestation to unleash its divine might and force Lilith back. But no matter how he commanded it, he found that his Manifestation did not move at all.
He instinctively raised his head… only to see his wolf-shaped Manifestation being gripped by the neck by the dragon’s black shadow and ruthlessly tormented.
Oh. It was busy. Never mind, then.
Then, searing pain struck. Lilith grabbed the hand Landon had extended, one hand gripping his wrist and the other his elbow. With what looked like barely any force, she twisted.
**Crack.**
Accompanied by a crisp snap, Landon immediately let out an agonized scream. But the scream did not last long. Lilith stepped forward and seized him by the neck. Like picking up a little chick, she lifted him and slammed him onto the ground. Then she dragged him along the ground.
Landon could clearly feel the hard fragments of stone violently scraping open his body as they passed. He could even see the shock and malicious delight in the eyes of those watching the spectacle from afar.
Most importantly, he could feel the vitality within his body rapidly draining away. Without his support, the wolf-shaped figure that had done absolutely nothing gradually faded away. His vision also began to blur.
“Oh my, you’re already done?” Lilith finally stopped and leisurely examined Landon. “That won’t do. We’ve only just begun.”
Lilith extended her hand, rolled up her sleeve, and revealed an arm as fair and smooth as a lotus root. In a tone as casual as though she were simply chatting about everyday matters, she asked, “I heard you really like blood?”
