“What kind of person do I hate the most?” The Moon Demon was stunned. She had not expected Lilith to ask such a question. To her, it was a ridiculous question. For some reason, it even seemed rather childish. Yet under the girl’s calm gaze, she did not even have the courage to remain silent.

“The people I hate… are naturally humans. Kindhearted humans. Just thinking about the hypocritical way those humans put on airs makes me sick.”

“I see.” Having received her answer, Lilith gently placed a hand against her forehead. A black flame that was difficult for outsiders to perceive burned in her hand. The black flame could devour everything. Power, life, existence itself. Even memories and emotions.

And so, as the black flames churned, darkness instantly engulfed Moon Demon’s entire field of vision. Neither her terror nor her struggles had the slightest effect. She could only let the depths of her divine consciousness be swallowed by darkness.

Countless memories belonging to Moon Demon surged into Lilith’s mind.

Six hundred years ago, she had been born in a room filled with the stench of blood. She had been a Blood Demon Witch born from the nourishment of countless human lives, the favored prodigy and future hope of the Blood Demon Race.

Five hundred years ago, a streak of sword light that caused even the world to dim had descended from the horizon, destroying her homeland and killing every member of her race.

She had narrowly escaped death, but because she had taken one extra look at that imposing figure standing high above the heavens, she had been left with a lasting psychological scar and had been unable to advance into the Saint realm for the rest of her life.

One hundred years ago, the existence she had always feared—the ancestor of the Immortal Cloud Pavilion—had ascended and departed. She had then begun plotting her grand plan to release the Demon Emperor.

Ten years ago, she had established contact with the Gongsun family.

Five years ago, with the help of the Gongsun family, she had disguised herself as a Blood Demon Pill, deceived the Boundary Marker, and infiltrated Maplefall Town.

Through the false information spread by the Gongsun family and her own bewitching abilities, the Blood Demon Pill had become known as a miraculous elixir capable of helping people break through into the Saint realm.

Thus, the three great families had fought one another in earnest. Of course, the Gongsun family had merely been putting on an act.

During that battle, the Wang and Ye families had buried an irreconcilable hatred between them. City Lord Song had been gravely wounded while helping Landon, while Landon himself, having fallen under her spell, had chosen to stand on the side of the demons.

He had even gone so far as to sacrifice his own wife. And so, from five years ago onward, nearly the entirety of Maplefall Town had fallen under her control.

On one hand, she had used the puppet avatar refined from Landon’s wife to become Moon Demon, killing people beneath the moonlight and accumulating power. On the other, she had waited for the unexpected delight she had discovered by chance—the day Liana, who possessed Pure Yin Blood, would come of age.

That day was today. Originally, the most perfect date would have been the Three Moons Festival several days later. But a girl named Jasmine had suddenly appeared, disrupting her plans.

Landon had mistakenly believed that she was an exalted immortal sent by the Immortal Cloud Pavilion, so the plan had been brought forward.

Assassinate Adrian. Assassinate City Lord Song. Kill people and perform a blood sacrifice. Use Liana’s Pure Yin Blood to open the passage. And thus, the scene before them had come to pass.

“I see… so that was it.” As countless afterimages faded from her eyes, Lilith gradually grasped the situation. Her expression also gradually turned cold, as though it had frozen into ice. “I suddenly feel that your fate is a little too easy on you.”

Lilith stared at Moon Demon. At that moment, Moon Demon’s eyes were vacant, and she appeared somewhat dazed. It was as though someone had drawn her soul away, and even the lines that had been traced across her face seemed to have blurred considerably.

“But never mind. After all, even my abilities aren’t omnipotent.” Lilith snapped her fingers.

The Moon Demon shuddered, and her eyes instantly regained their focus. However, when she looked around, she appeared utterly bewildered. “Who are you? Who is he? Who are they? …Who am I?”

She stared blankly at everything unfamiliar around her, like the heroine of a female-oriented web novel who had just awakened after a car accident.

“Your name is Pinocchio. You’re a puppet,” Lilith said.

“A puppet?” The Moon Demon lowered her head and looked at herself. “Ah, I really am a puppet.” Her mind was a complete blank, and she had lost all her memories. Only some basic common sense rooted in instinct remained. “What kind of person am I, then?”

“You’re a good person.” Lilith smiled. “You hated evil with a passion, were as kind as water itself, and were an utterly good person through and through.”

“Am… I?” The Moon Demon furrowed her brow in confusion. Her eyebrows had been drawn on as well, making the expression look rather comical. “Then, why am I here…?”

“To kill bad people, naturally.” Lilith produced a longsword and placed it in the Moon Demon’s hands. “That’s your duty.”

“My… duty?” The Moon Demon looked at the sword. Her mind remained a complete blank. She could not remember anything, so naturally, she could not remember anything about this so-called duty either.

But just as an animal would instinctively regard the first creature it saw as its mother, she placed complete trust in the innocent-looking, kindhearted girl before her. She tightened her grip around the longsword. “Tell me, where are the bad people?”

“Do I really need to tell you something like that?” Lilith smiled faintly. “Can’t you sense it yourself?”

“Me?” The Moon Demon raised her head and looked around. Although she had lost all her memories, she could still sense the intense resentment and hatred lingering within this body. And the targets of that resentment and hatred were…

The Moon Demon’s expression hardened slightly as she looked toward the refined, scholarly-looking middle-aged man. This body of hers desperately wanted to kill him. In other words… he was the bad guy!

“Bad guy, prepare to die!” The Moon Demon no longer hesitated. She raised her longsword and lunged at Landon. A gust of rancid wind swept through the air as her speed became astonishingly fast.

Landon hurriedly raised his sword to block her attack. “Moon Demon, have you gone mad?”

“I’m not Moon Demon. I’m Pinocchio, a kindhearted puppet!” The Moon Demon’s face was filled with righteous indignation. Under the overwhelming sense of duty, the strength in her hands seemed to increase by several degrees.

“She’s really gone mad!” Landon nearly spat up a mouthful of blood. He glared at Lilith through clenched teeth. “B̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲, what did you do to her?”

“Who knows?” Lilith replied calmly, “Perhaps she simply came to her senses.”

“Ridiculous nonsense. As expected, I should have killed you myself!” Landon forced the Moon Demon back with a single sweep of his sword.

The Moon Demon’s greatest strength had never been direct combat. She had simply forgotten her own fighting style, so all she could do was follow her body’s instincts and hack away at him.

And that body had once belonged to Landon’s wife. The woman who had been betrayed by the man who shared her bed. Her body itself carried an immense and terrifying resentment, which had merely been suppressed by the Blood Demon’s dominant consciousness all this time.

But now, the Blood Demon no longer possessed any so-called dominant consciousness. At present, she was simply the kindhearted Pinocchio. Thus, when faced with Landon’s counterattack, she merely retreated a few steps before fearlessly charging forward again.

“Evil spirit, prepare to die!”

Lilith withdrew her gaze. It seemed she did not need to concern herself with this matter for the time being. She then turned her attention toward the sky. That blood-red figure. It was the Demon Emperor’s Blood Essence, the Blood Demon’s greatest trump card brought into Maplefall Town.

“What do you say, Your Majesty the Demon Emperor?” Lilith rubbed the scarf around her neck and asked with a teasing smile. The scarf was still trembling slightly, yet there was not even a trace of wind around them.
