The sword light swept past like a shadow. The girl’s perfectly good head fell to the ground without the slightest surprise. Most of those present had blood on their hands, so naturally, witnessing someone’s head fall to the ground was hardly enough to shake them.

Except for Lauren and Liana, who were familiar with Lilith. The instant they saw Lilith’s head hit the ground, their hearts seemed to stop beating.

Even so, the entire scene remained eerily quiet. As they stared at the strange girl’s head lying on the ground, both Landon and the black-robed men instinctively breathed a sigh of relief.

“What a scare for nothing.” Landon sneered. “I thought she actually had something up her sleeve, but it turned out to be nothing more than an intimidating parlor trick.”

To be honest, when that strange girl suddenly teleported in front of him, she had indeed given him quite a fright. But now that he thought about it, she had probably used some strange artifact to perform that trick, because there was not the slightest trace of spiritual power emanating from her body.

That was probably also why he had mistaken her for an exalted immortal from the Immortal Cloud Pavilion before. That misjudgment had nearly ruined his entire plan.

However, falling for the same trick once was enough. He was not some brainless villain in a novel whose sole purpose was to make the protagonist look clever. How could he possibly let the same person frighten him twice?

That was why he had personally struck out to confirm it. And the result was exactly as he had expected. How powerful could someone be if he had managed to take her head off with a single sword strike?

“Alas, what a pity.” From a distance, Daoist Kumu also let out a long sigh when he saw this. He had originally placed his hopes on this mysterious young girl, but now it seemed that everything had merely been wishful thinking. At this point, he had to start thinking about how to rescue everyone and escape.

“What are you standing around for? Continue preparing the blood sacrifice.” Landon turned around and ordered the people around him, “The Demon Emperor hasn’t appeared. It may be because the passage we’ve opened isn’t large enough. Go and collect enough blood.”

“I already told you, there is no Demon Emperor.”

“Nonsense! The Demon Emperor is supreme and unparalleled. A mere thousand years…” Landon was halfway through his retort when he suddenly froze. Then, a chill surged through him.

Everyone around him belonged to his side. Who would have the audacity to openly contradict him, let alone show such disrespect toward the Demon Emperor? Moreover, that voice sounded so familiar.

He looked toward the black-robed men. Those black-robed men, who should have been following his orders, had also frozen in place as they stared at him. Even Gavin, who was usually the most composed of them all, instinctively tightened his grip on his cane.

They looked at one another, seemingly hoping to find a different answer. But in the end, Landon had no choice but to lower his head. He looked toward the ground.

There was a head lying there. A girl’s head. She had landed face-down, her long hair spread out in every direction. But now, she had somehow flipped herself over. Her face was turned upward. She was looking at Landon. Then she playfully blinked. “What are you staring at? Never seen a beautiful girl before?”

“Ah——!” Even Landon’s normally deep composure failed him at the sight of this. He cried out in alarm and staggered several steps backward before pointing his longsword at the still-living head on the ground. “You… What exactly are you?”

“How rude.” Lilith’s… head puffed out her cheeks in displeasure. “Weren’t you the one who turned me into this? Besides, I’m just a little more resilient than usual. What’s there to make such a fuss about?”

Resilient…? Looking at the young girl, who was still lively and kicking despite having nothing left but her head, Landon felt, for the first time, that he might have seriously misunderstood the meaning of the word “resilient.” Could those two words really be that damn impressive?

“Ugh, this angle is so uncomfortable.” Lilith let out a lament.

Then Landon caught a flicker of movement in the corner of his eye. He instinctively looked up. Only then did he notice that the girl’s headless “corpse” was still standing stiffly in place.

“I can’t move. Come over and help me.”

And so, the corpse moved. She groped her way forward with both hands, like a blind person who had lost her cane.

“A little farther forward… Now a bit to the right… Lower your body a little… Yes, yes… Ah, you stepped on me… How clumsy… Oh, right, you are me, so I suppose that’s fine.”

Under the directions of Lilith’s head, her body finally found its target. It gently picked up her head with both hands and, with a soft pop, fitted it back onto the stump of her neck. She even twisted it a little, making sure it was perfectly aligned.

Then she smiled. “Mm, a perfect fit. Though why does everything look a little strange…?” Lilith instinctively lowered her head… only to see her own perky backside.

“Ah, it’s backward. Sorry.” She playfully stuck out her tongue before rotating her head a full 180 degrees. Her field of vision shifted, bringing Landon directly into view. Landon’s face had gone deathly pale.

“Huh? What’s wrong with you? Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Lilith asked curiously. She had not even gotten around to attacking him, yet the guy was already falling apart. How boring.

“You…” Landon gripped the longsword in his hand tightly, as though holding it was the only thing giving him even the slightest sense of security. However, he did not dare draw it against her like he had before, because the scene unfolding before him had shaken him far too deeply. Could what had just happened really be something a human being could do? Or rather, was the girl standing before him even human?

“Landon, don’t let yourself be deceived. This must be an illusion!” The Moon Demon, who had witnessed everything, suddenly shouted. As a Blood Demon herself, her senses were exceptionally sensitive to auras and blood energy. Thus, in her perception, no matter how she examined this strange girl, she was nothing more than an ordinary human.

She was neither a demon nor a monster, nor even a cultivator. She was simply an ordinary person. Could an ordinary person have her head severed and then casually put it back on as though nothing had happened? Of course not!

Therefore, there was only one possible explanation for everything they had witnessed: it was an illusion! Without realizing it, they had already fallen under the girl’s illusion technique! That explained everything.

Why had she been able to emerge from the Demon Emperor’s seal? Why had they been unable to sense the slightest trace of spiritual power around her? Why had neither a sword piercing her heart nor a beheading had any effect on her? Because it was all an illusion!

Everything they had seen was merely what she wanted them to see!

“So that’s it!” Landon finally understood as well. “So we’ve all fallen for her trick!”

He stared at the girl, unable to suppress his growing humiliation and anger. He had been toyed with by this girl again and again. What a disgrace! “I’m not falling for your tricks again!” Landon gritted his teeth.

“Huh?” Lilith tilted her head, looking somewhat puzzled. What were these people even talking about? She turned toward the Moon Demon and stared at the face beneath her hood. After a moment, she seemed to realize something and said, “So this puppet is the so-called Moon Demon? No wonder you seemed familiar to me back then.”

“It is merely a trivial illusion. Watch as I dispel it with a wave of my hand!” The Moon Demon ignored the somewhat chilling look in Lilith’s eyes and let out a sinister, cackling laugh. Illusion techniques were one of the innate divine abilities of her Blood Demon lineage. Breaking through one would be child’s play.
