Landon thought he was simply too excited and had begun hallucinating. How could the Demon Emperor possibly say something so graceless? He must have heard wrong. Yet he did not dare raise his head and steal a glance at the Demon Emperor, for to a true supreme being, such an act would constitute the utmost disrespect.
After steadying himself, Landon kept his head bowed and spoke respectfully. “With the Demon Emperor having returned to this world, we could not contain our joy. We have already prepared more than enough blood for Your Majesty. We humbly ask that Your Majesty accept it.”
“I already told you, who exactly is this Demon Emperor you’re talking about? And why are all of you kneeling? Is this some special custom in Maplefall Town?”
The voice sounded increasingly puzzled. There was also a faint sense of familiarity to it. It was as though he had heard it somewhere before. But the Demon Emperor had been a great figure from a thousand years ago. How could he possibly have heard her voice before?
“Ah.”
Landon heard another cry of surprise. It seemed to have come from the young lady named Lauren. Why was she surprised as well? It couldn’t possibly be because she was stunned by the Demon Emperor’s peerless bearing.
Unable to hold back any longer, Landon slowly raised his head. The first thing that entered his sight was a pair of small black leather boots. They were not adorned with many elaborate decorations, yet they looked refined and rather adorable. Did the Demon Emperor wear little leather boots too?
Landon continued looking upward. Extending from the little leather boots was a pair of slender, beautiful legs wrapped in white thigh-high stockings. They were not particularly tall or long, yet they complemented the stockings perfectly. The small patch of exposed skin was as fair as freshly fallen snow.
Landon forced himself to swallow, and for some reason, his body trembled slightly.
His gaze continued upward. At the end of that snow-white expanse was a simple black dress. The stark contrast created a powerful visual impact, while faint golden trim adorned the hem, lending the dress an imposing elegance without making it extravagant.
Then the black dress suddenly narrowed at the waist, accentuating a slender waist that could be encircled with one arm, before extending in an unbroken line toward a swan-like neck.
A fluffy gray scarf encircled her neck, resembling a fox’s tail and giving off an exceptionally warm appearance.
Above the scarf was a pretty face covered in freckles. It seemed ordinary at first glance, yet the more one looked at it, the more captivating it became.
Her brows were furrowed, while her large, lively eyes blinked repeatedly in confusion. “Have you looked enough?” Lilith tilted her head and asked curiously.
“Eh?” Landon could not help crying out in surprise.
At the same time, the others raised their heads as well. The moment they saw the young girl before them clearly, they were all stunned. This was the Demon Emperor? No, this can’t be the Demon Emperor.
Gavin and the others, who had never met Lilith before, might have felt a trace of confusion. But how could Landon possibly fail to recognize the person standing before him?
She was the young girl named Jasmine. She was the one who had kidnapped Liana earlier. She was also the person who had been mistaken for an exalted immortal from Immortal Cloud Pavilion.
But why was she here? Shouldn’t she have been sent into the seal, becoming the first mouthful of blood for the Demon Emperor?
Landon turned his gaze toward the Moon Demon. The Moon Demon was equally bewildered. Through her eyes, she indicated that she really had sent this young girl to the Demon Emperor. Could it be that Her Majesty was a picky eater and refused to eat someone so skinny?
Confusion. Bewilderment. His mind was in complete disarray. Landon suddenly felt that ever since this young girl had appeared, the situation seemed to have begun slipping beyond their control.
“Why are you here? Where is the Demon Emperor?” Landon demanded sternly. The most important thing now was to determine where the Demon Emperor had gone.
“I already told you, I don’t know anything about this so-called Demon Emperor you’re talking about.” Lilith helplessly spread her hands.
“Don’t lie! You just came out of there!”
“But there really wasn’t any Demon Emperor inside like you described.” Lilith pouted and lightly patted the fluffy scarf around her neck. “Isn’t that right, Little Gray?”
The scarf trembled faintly in the breeze, as though it were quietly agreeing with her.
“You see? The only one I encountered inside was Little Gray. I didn’t meet anyone else, let alone some Demon Emperor.”
“Since you refuse to cooperate, I’ll have to teach you a lesson!” Landon sneered. He had disliked this little girl for a long time. Since the Demon Emperor had no intention of dealing with her, he would do it himself.
The fingers of the hand he had kept behind his back moved imperceptibly.
“Watch out!” Lauren cried out in alarm. But it was already too late.
At some point, the Moon Demon had appeared behind Lilith and plunged her dagger precisely into the center of her back. It struck a vital point. With the Moon Demon’s speed and uncanny movements, Lilith had no chance to react.
“That hurts.” Lilith cried out in surprise and looked down at her chest in confusion. Blood flowed from the wound that had pierced through her body. It was a fatal injury.
“This is what happens when you provoke me.” Landon grinned, his face filled with satisfaction. In his eyes, Lilith was already a dead woman. With her heart pierced, not even an immortal could save her.
At his feet, Liana did not even have the strength to speak, yet she still forced her eyes wide open as she looked at Lilith. The light in her eyes faded, leaving behind an expression of profound sorrow.
“Huh? Liana, what’s wrong with you?” Lilith crouched beside Liana and frowned as she examined her. “It’s so cold today. Why are you lying on the ground?”
Liana’s eyes suddenly widened as she stared in astonishment at Lilith, who had somehow appeared beside her.
“What…” Landon quickly retreated several steps, his face filled with shock. When had she gotten over there? Why had he not sensed her at all?
The Moon Demon was frightened as well. She lowered her head to look at her now-empty hands, then at Lilith, who still had the dagger lodged in her back. Her vacant eyes were filled with bewilderment.
“Come to think of it, I’m a little confused about what’s going on myself.” Lilith looked around. The dagger was still lodged in her back.
Not far away were collapsed buildings and raging flames. At her feet was a disgusting lake of blood. All around her knelt a sea of black-robed figures. High in the sky, that old Daoist was confronting a crimson shadow.
Lauren lay by the corner of a nearby wall. Judging by her outfit, she had probably activated the crystal Lilith had given her. “It suits you very well,” Lilith said seriously.
“……” Lauren opened her mouth, but she did not know what to say.
There were also several people she did not recognize.
Finally, Lilith’s gaze returned to Liana. She was lying on the ground. Her face was pale. There was a trace of excitement in her eyes, seemingly because Lilith had returned. Yet her wrist was still bleeding.
As the blood continued to flow, her vitality was visibly draining away. Lilith leaned down, took out a roll of bandages, and carefully wrapped Liana’s wound.
While bandaging her, Lilith noticed that numerous old scars remained on Liana’s wrist. They had already scabbed over. It seemed that someone had repeatedly cut open her wrist.
“I think I’m getting a little angry.” Lilith spoke as she continued bandaging the wound. Her voice was very soft, and there did not seem to be even the slightest trace of anger in it. Yet aside from her voice, the entire area was silent.
It seemed everyone had been stunned by her composure, as she calmly went about her business with a blade still lodged in her back.
**Swish!**
Suddenly, a biting wind swept past. Lilith’s hand abruptly stopped. A thin line of blood appeared across her fair, slender, swan-like neck, quickly spreading into a crimson trail. Then her beautiful head rolled from her neck as naturally as ripe fruit falling from its stem.
Landon sheathed his sword and let out a cold laugh. “Putting on a show and playing tricks. I thought you were something special.”
