“That should work.” Pixie nodded. “I have some connections with the head of the Hidden Li Family. It would be better if I handled the discussion personally.”
“The Hidden Li Family?” Yae-hime asked, her face filled with confusion. Where had this random family suddenly come from? Could Rakshasa actually be from there?
“Princess, don’t tell me you really didn’t know?” Pixie blinked.
Yae-hime shook her head. She only knew that Rakshasa’s status was far from ordinary.
“Rakshasa, or rather Lilith, is actually the illegitimate daughter of the Li Family’s Third Young Master.” Pixie revealed.
“So that’s how it was.” Yae-hime nodded lightly. At last, she understood what had been going on. Rakshasa’s status was indeed not low, but it seemed she had never received much attention from the family. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have ended up living in Roc City.
The words “illegitimate daughter” alone explained a great many things. On top of that, she was both deaf and mute, making her perceived value to the family rather limited. Had she not possessed the status of a Closed Beta player, her treatment might have been even worse.
“In most major families like ours, marriages are tied together by interests and benefits. Rakshasa’s father was no exception. Later, he met Rakshasa’s mother. The two fell in love at first sight and secretly got together. From what I heard, they lived quite happily for a time. Unfortunately, the good days didn’t last. His legal wife eventually discovered the affair. After the two families made a huge scene over it, Rakshasa’s father brought his family from Yanjing to Roc City to start over. You could say he indirectly severed himself from the Li Family. However, their marriage didn’t last many years before it ended. As for the exact reason, even I don’t know.” Pixie shared some of the hidden details she knew.
“This Li Family sounds kind of weak, doesn’t it?” Yae-hime asked in puzzlement.
No matter what, Rakshasa’s father had been the Third Young Master. What was the big deal about taking another wife? Although Cathay officially practiced monogamy, for large families concerned with expanding their bloodline, having several wives was hardly unusual.
“The Li Family was still fairly influential several decades ago, but over the past ten years or so, they’ve shown obvious signs of decline. Compared to the Hidden Xu Family, they’re nowhere near the same level. It’s only natural that the Hidden Xu Family would be the more dominant side.” Pixie explained.
“The Hidden Xu Family?” The name sounded familiar to Yae-hime, as though she had heard it somewhere before, but she couldn’t recall where.
Pixie and Mylene both looked at her with rather strange expressions.
“Why are you two looking at me like that?” Yae-hime asked after noticing their odd gazes.
“Didn’t you extort them before?” Pixie replied irritably.
“Sis, Glory Entertainment Center belongs to the Hidden Xu Family,” Mylene reminded her.
“Uh… now I remember.” No wonder the name sounded familiar. They were the ones she had extorted… “I didn’t extort them! That was compensation for emotional distress!”
The two girls exchanged knowing smiles at those words.
“Let’s drop that topic. Given Rakshasa’s questionable background, will the Li Family really send experts to protect her?” Yae-hime quickly changed the subject.
She had once infiltrated Rakshasa’s home herself, and the process had been ridiculously easy. Having only numbers without quality was completely useless when it came to protection. Against a Grandmaster, ordinary guards were nothing more than side dishes.
Right now, the insects were hiding in the shadows while Rakshasa remained out in the open. One mistake and she could be abducted.
“Rakshasa is a Closed Beta player valued by the higher-ups. If the Li Family wants to rise again, they’ll probably have to rely on her. As long as they aren’t stupid, they’ll definitely send experts to protect her. Of course, even if they really are that stupid, it won’t matter. Once the situation is reported, a large number of experts and military forces will be deployed around the area.” Pixie said.
“Sis, Rakshasa’s protection level is the same as yours. If necessary, they can even carpet-bomb the area with missiles.” Mylene said with a grin.
The last time Yae-hime went to Baiding Island for that duel, submarines had already been lurking beneath the surrounding waters.
“Alright then, I guess I don’t need to worry.” Yae-hime finally let out a sigh of relief. With the government backing her, there was nothing much to fear. The game had entered a critical stage, and it was difficult for her to spare the time to get personally involved.
Even if they brought Rakshasa to the unfinished building, it still wouldn’t be truly safe. After all, nobody knew exactly how many insects had infiltrated Roc City. If countless insect creatures suddenly attacked the unfinished building while they were assaulting Jade City, the consequences would be no laughing matter.
Having Rakshasa stay by her side might actually be the worse option. Unless the City of Chaos still existed in the real world. With Little Blue overseeing everything, there would be nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, all she had now were Vera’s clones, whose combat abilities were merely average.
Only when Vera 1, 2, and 3 joined forces could they barely contend with a Grandmaster. Against those terrifying insects, they would be little more than cannon fodder.
With experts dispatched by either the Li Family or the state protecting Rakshasa, Yae-hime’s burden was undoubtedly much lighter. Furthermore, if necessary, Mylene and Pixie could also lend a hand.
‘It’s a pity this place has already been discovered by the ants. Otherwise, leaving Rakshasa at the hotel would have been the best choice.’
Yae-hime had never believed that the most dangerous place was necessarily the safest. Their enemy was a race of insects. Their way of thinking might be completely different from that of humans! The three of them waited in the lobby for another hour, yet the insectman never appeared.
As dawn gradually broke, Yae-hime decided to take the initiative. She stepped outside the hotel and extended her senses in all directions, searching for any large insects that might be hiding nearby. Disappointingly, she found only ordinary insects.
It was obvious that the antman was extremely cautious. What Yae-hime didn’t know was that the cautious one wasn’t the ant-man at all. It was her enemy, Red! Once again, the threads of fate had bound them together.
When day finally arrived, the three returned to the top floor in disappointment. It seemed this crisis would not be resolved anytime soon.
At that moment, Rakshasa was already waiting in the suite’s living room. The instant she saw Yae-hime appear, she skipped over and wrapped herself around her arm, a radiant smile blooming across her pretty face.
On the other side, Nangong Lin emerged from her room. The moment she saw Rakshasa clinging to Yae-hime’s arm, jealousy immediately flared up, and she quickly joined them.
Seeing this, Mylene and Pixie could only exchange helpless smiles.
After breakfast with everyone, Yae-hime went outside the hotel to keep watch. After confirming there were no large insects nearby, she had Pixie drive Rakshasa home. Keeping her here any longer was ultimately too dangerous. Not long afterward, Yae-hime also left the hotel.
At the unfinished building. The Vera clones happily enjoyed the exquisite breakfast their master had brought back, while the sight nearly drove Avelora who was lying on the cold floor to tears with envy. Did they really have to torture her like this!?
As for Yae-hime, after asking Vera 1 about the situation on Aqua Blue Star, she lay down on the bed and logged into the game. From this moment onward, she intended to focus entirely on the game. As long as nothing major happened in the outside world, she wouldn’t concern herself with it.
Within the City of Chaos.
The moment Yae-hime got out of bed, the adorable Little Blue flashed into existence and delivered a piece of tremendous news. The first phase of the City of Chaos restoration project had been completed ahead of schedule! It was truly cause for celebration.
At this point, all they had to do was wait for Alicia to rendezvous with them. Then they could launch their assault on Jade City!
After properly showering Little Blue with affection, Yae-hime summoned Yunuen and Little Fairy. Both of them were still a long way from reaching Level 30. Since she had nothing else to do for the moment, she decided to help them level up.
In less than three hours, Yunuen and Little Fairy successfully reached Level 30, taking another significant step forward in strength. At this point, among the members of the Princess Alliance, only Snowy and Pixie had yet to reach Level 30. Even so, the achievement left the jaws of countless players hanging open in shock.
