“Got it, thank you!”
The waitress briskly jotted down Mira’s order and left, after which Mira was able to focus on Lanoa’s conversation again.
(…Hm? I feel like I was about to figure something out…)
And she tilted her head, trying to remember what she was thinking about before the waitress arrived, feeling like she was forgetting something important.
But Lanoa’s conversation would not wait for her.
“And new girls are never used to keeping him company…”
Lanoa had been with the King the previous day as well, and he was in the habit of calling on multiple women at once, which included someone who was just starting out.
She mentioned how the King doted heavily on the new and inexperienced escort, in his own thoroughly perverted way.
“I hope she’s doing okay…”
Another woman took her place when it became too much, but Lanoa was still worried, knowing how difficult it was to keep the King company.
The blonde woman also seemed sympathetic, also aware of how harsh that treatment could be.
(Oh right, I remember, the King!)
Mira’s interest was instantly piqued to know just what kind of things the King did, while also remembering what she was thinking about earlier.
(I’m sure it’s not just his money, but also where he lives. There’s places that would warrant that here, like for example…that castle!)
The castle in the middle of the red-light district, Mira’s original destination.
She did not know exactly what kind of building it was yet, but it was unmistakably a castle, with enough space for livable quarters, maybe even a working inn. And that increased the chances of August being there.
Something they mentioned had pushed her to make that connection.
The King was also described as a degenerate.
Iris, Nirvana’s oracle, had also been forced to witness something similar.
All of that made Mira wonder if perhaps the King she was hearing about was actually August himself.
That could also explain why Wooftson was picking up August’s scent on Lanoa.
The two women had just mentioned how Lanoa was the King’s favorite, which meant they also spent a lot of time together, enough for his scent to rub off on her.
She asked just to be safe, and Wooftson replied, ‘If they’re together for lengthy periods of time, that could be possible, woof.’
(I think that settles it.)
Her target was within the castle, Mira was certain of it. But she would still wait for her order to arrive before she headed there.
At the same time, that gave her more time to listen to Lanoa talk.
They spoke of more of their clients, other than the King, the various gentlemen who made use of the red-light district services, the various medicines they needed in their line of work, and so on.
(Somehow…that sounds really troublesome…)
Their conversation turned rather graphic at times, even making Mira want to shelter her ears, but she continued listening in case they mentioned something important.
Meanwhile, the Spirit King and Martel also began commenting on it.
According to the Spirit King, ‘Things have gotten a lot more standardised nowadays.’
There had been brothels back in the times the Spirit King knew personally, and things were a lot less safe and improvised at the time.
He also chuckled a little, knowing that there was no bottom to the passions of the human mind.
Meanwhile, Martel kept insisting that sometimes a single night of passion could lead to true love, and that such stories happened a lot in places like that.
When asked what she thought of selling one’s body, she simply replied that it was love as well.
Martel’s definition of love seemed to be incredibly broad and deep, including what happened in brothels or not.
“Sorry for the wait!”
And finally Mira’s order arrived.
“Ohh… This is definitely very royal.”
The Royal Cheesecake and Royal Tea au Lait were, as their name suggested, befit for a king.
While the place was furnished like a simple family restaurant, the food they served was of the highest quality. That was the whole gimmick of the place.
Obviously the price also reflected that, so Mira had to get her sweets under the guise of a hearty meal before the main battle.
“I have to get going now.”
“Alright, and you know, we really should go shopping sometime.”
“I doubt that’s going to happen anytime soon. But I’ll be looking forward to it.”
Mira was still eating as the two women finished and prepared to leave the restaurant.
They had provided plenty of information to Mira, so she did not feel the need to spy on them any longer. Now she was purely a customer at the restaurant, and she put her full focus on stuffing her cheeks with Royal Cheesecake, shuddering in bliss as the flavor spread.
But barely a moment later Lanoa let out a loud “Ah!” and rushed back, brushing past Mira, then adding, “There it is,” and running out again.
She had forgotten her wallet at her seat.
Despite her flawless appearance and perfect manners, she also had a bit of a klutzy side.
Mira reevaluated her perception of Lanoa as she took a long sip of Royal Tea au Lait, followed by a refreshed breath.
‘Woof, I noticed that Lanoa woman staring at you just now, dear owner.’
And Wooftson had something to report as well. He had seen Lanoa glancing at Mira twice, when coming for her wallet and when she left again.
‘Are you certain…? Could she have noticed that I was spying on them…’
Mira was surprised to hear that, as she had not noticed anything of the sort, but Wooftson added that it did not look like a wary stare.
‘Maybe she just thought I could end up becoming her rival.’
From Lanoa’s looks and her previous conversation, it was already clear that she was the number one escort of the red-light district.
Now here was Mira, her first time in town, and with looks that could easily shake the hierarchy of the red-light district, and Lanoa’s position. Mira chuckled to herself, feeling like it made sense that Lanoa would stare at someone like herself.
(Heh, don’t you worry now. I’m just an adventurer staying here for but a moment.)
Lanoa was beautiful, but Mira would not give up either. Though at the same time, she had no intention of competing in a place like the red-light district, so Lanoa could keep her position there.
Filled by a mysterious confidence, Mira enjoyed the rest of her sweets and left the restaurant.
