August’s scent had led them to a restaurant, where Mira tried to find its source together with Wooftson.

‘What..? But there’s no men over there.’

Most of the clients were women in the restaurant, and no matter how hard she tried, she could not see a single male in the direction Wooftson pointed.
But after he sniffed the air a second time just in case, ‘The scent is definitely coming from there, woof,’ he repeated.

‘What’s this supposed to mean…’

In the end, it was Wooftson who knew best, so he had to be right.
She began wondering if maybe August had been a woman all along, or happened to enjoy crossdressing and was hiding amongst the women, as she carefully walked amongst them in the area Wooftson pointed to.

‘It’s that person there!’

After some careful wading through chairs, Wooftson singled out one person. Their target was sitting right next to them.
Mira slowed down and glanced in that direction.

There were two women sitting at one table, facing each other and chatting it up.
One had glittering golden hair and green eyes like emeralds. The other had neatly combed black hair and gray eyes, coupled with a gentle beauty.
Wooftson was pointing at the black haired one as the source of the scent.

(I’m not really sure what to make of this…)

Mira was left speechless for a moment, beholding the beauty of the black haired girl.
The red-light district was considered the crown of the pleasure district, so all the women there were also the height of beauty.

That black haired woman appeared even more beautiful than the rest, and the smiles she beamed as she spoke could only be described as bewitching.
There was no way such an irresistible beauty could be a cross dresser, so Mira crossed off that idea, before Examining her to check her name.

‘Yes, she’s not August after all. But what does that mean?’

Her name was Lanoa, confirming that she was not the person they were looking for. Not to mention that the strands of hair she had obtained from Alma were not black.

But the scent trail Wooftson followed did lead to that woman. There had to be some connection there, so to learn a bit more Mira sat down behind the woman and began looking through the menu.

Her eyes were locked on the menu, but her ears were perked up.

“…and then he passed out. I guess he really couldn’t handle it after all. But that’s what happens when you take such a big dose of a drug you’re not used to. Either way, I was booked for half a day and it was over in just ten minutes.”

The blonde was talking, sighing in-between words. Judging from their conversation, she also seemed to be an escort.
Her client of the day had tried to take a drug to keep himself going for longer, but ended up passing out from it instead.

And it likely had been no accident. He had ordered an extra potent drug just for the occasion, and taken the highest dose, all to make the best of the half day he would have with the blonde woman.

Booking a woman from the red-light district was not cheap either, especially for half a day, so he had likely also worked hard just to afford it.
He had saved up through sweat and tears, prepared himself as best as possible, and when the day came, he took the drug and landed himself in the emergency room.
It had all been his own fault, so there were no refunds. The dream he had been so close to attaining had slipped from his fingertips, all by his own doing.

(What a wretchful fate…)

Mira grasped the main topic of their conversation, feeling pity for that man.
Then the blonde woman continued, “And I basically got the rest of the day free now,” ready to make the best of the time she gained after that failed appointment.

“Lanoa, do you want to… Actually nevermind, I guess the number one princess of the red-light district would never have free time.”

The blonde woman was looking for someone to hang out with, and spoke with enthusiasm at first, which quickly vanished as she sighed loudly. She did not even need an answer to know that Lanoa would be busy.
And she was right.

“Yeah, I’m sorry. I have to go to the King’s place later today.”

Unsurprisingly, Lanoa was also an escort who would be seeing someone she referred to as the King in one hour.
For a moment Mira was surprised to hear that, wondering if even monarchs came to the red-light district, but that was not quite the case.

“Ahh, the King again? He really seems to like you, huh. Must be nice, he’s so handsome and well mannered, and he spends like the richest man out there. Normally I’d envy you, but I can’t, knowing how much of a degenerate he can be.”

As the blonde woman spoke, it was clear she meant it, her voice completely devoid of any sort of jealousy, if anything, she sounded compassionate.

“I know, otherwise he’d just be a rich pervy guy.”

Even Lanoa could not help but let out a sigh at that point, whoever that King was, he had left a deep impression on them.
At least that revealed something more, King was just a nickname they had given to one of their regular customers.

(Hmm, a King…)

Mira became intrigued by whoever that King was.
They had mentioned he seemed to have endlessly deep pockets to pay for everything, which was another reason for his nickname.
But Mira still felt like there could be something else behind that name.

(That castle, could it be…)

She began to connect the dots.

“Welcome! Have you decided on your order yet?”

The moment she put down the menu, a waitress swiftly came to see her, almost like she had been anticipating that moment.

As busy as the waitresses were, Mira had to switch up her act a little to not blow her cover, or reveal that she was spying on the women behind her.
So she proceeded like a regular customer would after they knew what to order from the menu.
Then again, there was always the safe pick, just a cup of coffee to pass the time.

“Yes, I’d like a Royal Cheesecake, and a Royal Tea au Lait please.”

But Mira had been looking through the menu more carefully, picking out her favorites.
Even her smile was that of a young girl who just wanted something sweet, not a spy who was trying to listen in to conversations.

In short, she conducted herself perfectly for the situation.
