With everything in order for her search, Mira went out to the city again, this time with Wooftson in her arms.
This city was a hub for the most base desires of men, so it was exceedingly rare to see spirits or similar beings in its streets.
A Cu Sith walking around there, even a small one, would stand out quite a lot, attracting too much unwanted attention to Mira.
She wanted to keep her presence as unnoticed by August as possible, so in the end they settled on a plushie strategy.
That fit perfectly with Mira’s youthful appearance, allowing Wooftson to just look like her favorite toy. After all, seeing a girl carrying around a puppy plush toy was not uncommon.
As she left, the receptionist hardly noticed the sudden appearance of a plush toy, becoming far more puzzled by the few minutes Mira had spent in the room. But Mira did not notice that at all.
“I don’t think he’s been around here, woof.”
Wooftson started by sniffing around the street outside, declaring that there were no traces left of August’s presence.
“Hmm, well I doubt he would be in these parts anyway.”
As Mira replied, she looked like a little girl talking to her plush toy, but in a way, that only solidified her unassuming appearance.
“Let’s begin searching through the center of the city.”
Most of the stores and inns around there, including the one Mira had been in, were relatively cheap places.
She had already noticed that prices remained overall similar across each portion of the city, so that report came with no surprise to her.
Instead, they headed to the center of the city, where all the high class stores were.
Their target was one of the leaders of Ira Muerte, the biggest criminal organization of the continent, so Mira figured that he had to be hiding in one of the best locations in the city.
Currently the most suspicious place was the biggest building in the city, and that moved most of the money, the casino.
Marking that as her destination, Mira walked alongside the main street with a steady pace.
Meditorea was overflowing with luxury. Most of it aimed at an adult audience, while still including some that could be enjoyed by men and women of all ages.
Mira made a turn into a street that included a lot of the latter, taking a detour from her way to the casino, as a way to appear like a regular visitor of the city.
That place was called Sugar Street, and as the name suggested, it was a paradise of sweets and anything with sugar.
It had a distinctive appearance in contrast to the rest of the city. And as sweets are universally loved by people, it was also crowded with people, especially, or maybe predictably, mostly by women.
So Mira did not stand out as she walked through it.
“Now this is a different world!”
“Everything smells so sweet, woof.”
In a city filled with lust, there was a single ray of light from child-like dreams. Mira’s eyes were also twinkling as she looked around, only to freeze in place the moment she got close enough to a store.
It was a chocolaterie, with the sweet aroma of chocolate wafting out of the door, and desserts lined up in a showing case like pieces of jewelry.
They were all so beautiful that it felt like a shame to eat them, but at the same time, it made one want to eat as many as possible.
But what made Mira shudder was their price.
A single piece was 2000 Rils at the very least. A whopping 2000.
“This isn’t mere chocolate…this is *chocolat*!”
Somehow Mira was under the impression that *chocolat* was a term for fancy chocolate. And as she looked at the whole lineup in the store before slowly walking away, she could not help but wonder how many tens of millions of Rils it would cost to buy it all.
That repeated a few times, as she approached shops and then winced seeing the high prices. Sugar Street was a place children could only dream about after all, in reality, it was also made to cater to an older, more affluent audience.
*Chocolat* was not the only thing at offer either, there was ice cream, cakes, pudding, and even Japanese candy.
After she had put it all behind her, she swore in her heart. Once this whole situation was sorted, she would return and splurge to her heart’s content. That would be her reward for her hard work.
“We’re almost there!”
“Woof!”
Prying herself away from the alluring sweets, Mira exited Sugar Street, entering the center of the city.
It was easy to tell at first glance that they were in a completely different area now.
The largest and most unique building of the city stood there in the middle, without a single window, and only four gates leading in and out of it.
Burly bouncers stood guard at each gate, with even more soldiers ready nearby in case they were needed.
Security was clearly very heavy, but that was not what stood out the most. It was the building itself, or rather, its outer appearance.
“It’s all so shiny and sparkly…”
“It’s very imposing, woof…”
The casino, Meditorea’s symbol, was painted entirely in a shiny golden color.
It could even be confused with a golden palace. All of the outer decorations and inscriptions were also gilded the same way. The walls, rooftop, even the stairs were the same. It went past being overdone or distasteful, becoming dazzling and imposing.
“Alright Wooftson, it’s your time to shine.”
“I’ll get it done, woof.”
The most imposing, and most heavily guarded building of the city. The casino was the perfect place for a hideout.
Mira was convinced he was somewhere in there, so she slowly inched closer, while Wooftson continued sniffing the air while being carried in her arms.
