The fight in the lower part of the rampart was over.
Despite the heavy burden this sacred area placed on her, the Scarlet Demon Lord had finished off her enemies faster than Theodolite could.

“That strength is truly impressive…Scarlet Demon Lord!”

Contrary to his praise, he grit his teeth in annoyance as he cut down the White Robe in front of him.
…He refused to admit, even to himself, that he could feel something as shameful as jealousy.

That did not stop him from grumbling some more as he turned to face the rest of the assassins.
As far as he could see, there were only two crossbow White Robes left, and as he took a step forward to deal with them…

…He felt a tingling sensation in the back of her neck.

He instantly rolled to the side, just as a White Robe suddenly appeared there, his blade passing through the spot where Theodolite’s neck had been.
He had managed to avoid that stealth surprise attack…but it also created a dangerous opening.

“Dammit…”

There was already a bolt closing in on his left eye, faster than he could stand up again.
All he could do was watch, as if in slow motion.

*Ah, I guess I’m dead now.*

The bolt was in the perfect trajectory for a critical hit, he did not even have time to lament not having a shield equipped, and as he tried to raise his arm to at least cover himself somehow…but even that would take too long.
And in the end…that bolt would never hit him.

All he heard was a short clink…

“…That Demon Lord is always so troublesome. I’m just training in peace and she tells me to come all the way here, but I guess she had a reason for that.”

…And a male voice he knew very well.
He slowly opened his eyes and saw…a young man covering him, clad in silver armor, armed with a jet black Demonic Sword, and fiery red hair. He was confronting the White Robes now.

***

*Good, I think I made it just in time.*

As soon as he…Suzaku, was told to come, he rushed there as fast as possible.
Not wanting to waste any time, he had fully worn Dragon Armor: Fafnir, using his wings to rise up the stairs faster…where he saw Theodolite on the ground, and a crossbow White Robe enemy about to launch a bolt at him.
In a split second, he dashed forward and managed to knock away the flying bolt.
Then he glanced at Theodolite, seeing that he was still alive and let out a sigh of relief.

The White Robe who tried sneak attacking Theodolite did not hesitate at all seeing the new arrival, quickly switching targets.
These had the most advanced movements out of all human mob enemies, but…

*Why are they so damn slow?*

As the White Robe tried to strike Suzaku’s head with his jamadhar, he easily dodged while slicing the enemy’s stomach.
That was a move he learned from that red haired young man he was training with lately, and it effectively turned the White Robe into particles of light.
He was clearly getting stronger.
The Dragon Armor that was so difficult to control before also moved the way he wanted now.
It was reinvigorating to realize that being beaten down constantly for days on end had been worth it, and he celebrated mentally as he turned around to look at King Theodolite.
And then their eyes met…Theodolite’s sparkling with admiration, instantly making Suzaku scowl and groan with disgust.

*This is why I can’t handle this guy.*

It was like a switch had been flipped, with King Theodolite reverting to a pure innocent boy, completely opposite to how he behaved with Crim earlier.

…Both of them happened to be professional gamers in real life, Suzaku being one year older, and by chance they happened to be in the same team during Theodolite’s debut matches.
Being his first time on stage, he was clearly nervous and unsure of himself, so Suzaku constantly reassured him and helped him get through it, which somehow resulted in Theodolite becoming attached to Suzaku.

Since then, every time they got together he would just follow Suzaku around and become excessively clingy. So that was one of the reasons why Suzaku tried to avoid being with him.
The other reason…which he quickly noticed, was that in contrast to Theodolite’s usual act as an upright boy, he tended to secretly take extreme measures to follow his own sense of justice, and he was always really harsh when judging others.
Correcting that attitude was not a task Suzaku wanted to shoulder, instead choosing to avoid Theodolite.
But now…since he had come to Theodolite’s aid, he could not avoid him anymore.

“I’m only doing this once… Pull yourself together already, I’ll help you.”
“O-Okay, Suzaku!”
“Your friends are pretty close already, can you last until they get here?”
“Of course, you can always count on me!”

*Ughh, I really can’t stand this guy.*

Somehow the image of a puppy wagging its tail superimposed itself over that young knight. Suzaku let out a sigh and shook his head to stop thinking of that…and charged ahead together with Theodolite, clearing out the remaining White Robes between them and the allies rushing up the stairs.
