The night sky glittered with countless stars, while a hazy moon hung high overhead.
On Mt. Azure Dragon, the two women stared intently at one another without uttering a single word. Yet the killing intent hanging between them was even stronger than before.
At that moment, a green leaf drifted down between the two opponents. The instant it entered the space between them, it split cleanly in half before crumbling into powder. That became the signal.
Mylene and Avelora moved simultaneously. Two figures shot forward at astonishing speed and collided head-on. Mylene’s Lightning Radiance Fist smashed directly against Avelora’s elbow, sending sparks and arcs of electricity exploding in every direction.
Just as those crackling bolts were about to spread outward, a sudden change occurred.
Frost descended around Avelora. Her long golden curls transformed into shimmering silver in the blink of an eye, while terrifying waves of cold surged from her body. The frigid energy condensed into an ice shield, blocking the scattered lightning.
Not only that, but ten small icicles suddenly materialized in midair and shot toward Mylene.
A sharp glint flashed through her eyes. She pushed forcefully off the ground and narrowly dodged the incoming icicles at the last possible moment. The missed icicles slammed violently into the earth, instantly freezing the soil beneath them beneath a layer of frost. The entire battlefield became bitterly cold.
Stopping some distance away, Mylene watched Avelora with a grave expression. Ice crystals swirled around the silver-haired woman, making her resemble a goddess of ice descended into the mortal world.
After their brief exchange, Mylene had already realized how formidable her opponent was. Avelora was likely no weaker than herself. Of course, neither side had fought seriously yet. Mylene had no idea where Avelora’s true limits lay.
Then again, she did not even know her own limits. After all, this nearly perfect body had only recently been adjusted and optimized by Yae-hime. How much potential it truly possessed was something no one could know until it was fully unleashed.
“Since you’re determined to die in Ronald’s place, then die.” Silver hair fluttered behind Avelora as the freezing aura around her condensed the surrounding moisture into more than a dozen small icicles.
She casually pointed forward. Immediately, the icicles blasted toward their target.
Faced with attacks so fierce they seemed capable of tearing space itself apart, Mylene dared not show the slightest carelessness. Lightning erupted across her body as she dodged at maximum speed, avoiding the attacks rather than confronting them head-on.
The icicles that missed once again pierced the ground, spreading thick layers of frost across the earth.
Even after her attacks were evaded, Avelora’s expression remained indifferent. The newly formed icicles pursued Mylene relentlessly, firing one after another like machine-gun rounds.
Despite clearly being unable to hit their target, she continued attacking with unwavering persistence.
The spectators could not help but feel puzzled. Yae-hime quickly understood what was happening, but she offered no warning to her little sister. This was a fair and sacred duel. Until a victor had been decided, no one was allowed to interfere.
Amid the storm-like barrage of icicles, Mylene darted and weaved through the battlefield, steadily closing the distance to Avelora. She intended to defeat her opponent in the most direct and decisive manner possible.
Meanwhile, Avelora had already noticed Mylene’s intentions. Yet she showed no sign of changing her strategy. Icicles poured down like a torrential rain, freezing the land wherever they struck.
**Crack!**
When Mylene’s boot stepped onto the ground and produced a crisp cracking sound, she finally sensed that something was wrong. The entire surrounding terrain had already transformed into a sheet of ice. Unfortunately, she realized it far too late.
“Frozen Moment.” Avelora suddenly pressed both hands against the ground. Terrifying amounts of cold energy poured into the frozen surface as though it cost nothing.
In the next instant, countless ice spikes erupted wildly from the ground, stabbing toward Mylene from every direction.
Only then did the truth become clear. All those earlier icicles had never been meant to hit her. They had been used to construct a battlefield that belonged solely to Avelora. An Ice Domain. Within this territory, she was the unrivaled Goddess of Frost.
Feeling the deadly aura radiating from the countless ice spikes, Mylene no longer dared remain there. She stomped forcefully on the icy ground and launched herself over seven meters into the air, narrowly avoiding the forest of razor-sharp spikes.
According to her calculations, that height should have been safe.
At that very moment, a savage smile appeared on Avelora’s face. The instant their eyes met, Mylene’s heart skipped a beat, and an ominous premonition surged through her. As though answering that premonition, an eruption of freezing energy suddenly exploded in midair. Frost swirled everywhere as a raging blizzard took shape.
Trapped within the storm of freezing air, Mylene had no room to evade. In the blink of an eye, she was frozen solid.
Before long, the frigid storm condensed into a gigantic ice pillar that stood towering upon the frozen ground. Under the moonlight, the silhouette of a young girl could be seen imprisoned within the massive pillar of ice.
“This is what happens when you overestimate yourself.” Avelora rose to her feet and looked over, a trace of disdain curling at the corners of her lips. She had not even begun fighting seriously, yet her opponent was already finished. How utterly boring.
Tilting her head, she looked toward Yae-hime, hoping to see pain and regret on her face. Unfortunately, the peerlessly beautiful girl merely responded with a faint smile. That smile, capable of toppling kingdoms, was mesmerizing.
As unbelievable as it seemed, Avelora’s heart actually skipped a beat. The next instant, however, she was filled with terror. This impossibly beautiful girl possessed a strangely intoxicating charm. One careless moment, and it felt as though she would be completely devoured by it.
(N-No, that’s not right. Why is she smiling? I’ve already…)
Just as the thought crossed her mind, Avelora heard a sharp sound slicing through the air.
**Crackle! Crackle!**
**Crackle! Crackle!**
When she came back to her senses, the entire mountaintop was flashing with streaks of lightning. Then came a crisp cracking sound. The sound of ice splitting apart. Turning toward it, she saw the gigantic ice pillar rapidly filling with cracks as brilliant white light flickered from within.
“This is bad!” Only now did Avelora understand why Yae-hime had smiled. The duel was far from over. That little girl was still alive! She immediately attempted to reinforce the pillar with more freezing energy. But she was already too late.
A thunderous boom erupted. The gigantic ice pillar exploded instantly, revealing a young girl wrapped in blinding lightning, looking like the incarnation of a thunder god.
“You actually dared… dared to make me embarrass myself in front of my sister! I absolutely won’t forgive you!” Mylene was furious. Absolutely furious.
She had originally intended to show her very best side to her sister during tonight’s duel. Instead, she had been frozen like an insect moments after the battle began, utterly disgracing herself. The humiliation and anger burning inside her now had reached their limit.
Before her words had even fully faded, the entire area transformed into a sea of white lightning, a thunder pool intent on devouring everything in its path.
Avelora rapidly retreated. A tremendous wave of icy energy burst from her body, condensing into a massive ice wall before her. Faced with the raging thunder pool sweeping toward her, she had no choice but to unleash her full strength.
“I absolutely, absolutely won’t forgive you!” Almost the instant the words left her mouth, Mylene charged forward. Her heavy punch crashed into the ice wall with a deafening bang. An overwhelmingly powerful force erupted in full. The thick ice wall was forcibly shattered apart. Then completely destroyed.
The terrifying shockwave hurled Avelora several meters backward. Her blood churned violently, and a stream of blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. She stared ahead in astonishment, her heart filled with shock.
Chunks of ice scattered across the battlefield, revealing a petite figure. It was difficult to imagine that such a small body could contain such terrifying power.
“Th-The Storm Emperor!” Suddenly, the man in military uniform cried out in alarm from not far away.
At that moment, standing amidst the sea of white lightning like a descending god of thunder, Mylene looked exactly like the S-Rank transcendent who had once unleashed a bloody storm throughout the underground world without warning before mysteriously disappearing without a trace.
