After a thirty-minute drive, the black SUV finally arrived at the foot of Mount Azure Dragon. The area had not only been cordoned off with police tape, but several officers were also stationed there on guard.
This state of affairs had already persisted for an entire day. It was obvious that the cause was the battle between Ronald and Dominus.
After Mylene presented her official stamped credentials, the officers immediately allowed them through. Their expressions carried both shock and envy. After all, such a young child was actually the superior of their superior.
The black SUV steadily made its way up the mountain. The previous battle had only destroyed the summit platform of Mount Azure Dragon, so it posed no obstacle to driving.
The higher they climbed, the denser the chilling aura in the air became. A powerful presence was gradually taking shape. Without a doubt, this was the aura being condensed by the opponent Mylene was about to face.
(Strange. This aura feels far too young. It doesn’t seem to belong to the Silver Wolf who fought Ronald to the death.)
Yae-hime immediately sensed that something was off. However, after a moment’s thought, she no longer found it particularly strange. Back then, even Ronald, the victor, had suffered such severe injuries. There was no way Silver Wolf could have emerged unscathed.
“It looks like this will be a duel between the younger generation.” She spoke softly.
“Sis, what do you mean by the younger generation?” Mylene asked from beside her, confusion written across her face.
“The other party isn’t very old. I’d guess she’s about your age.”
“Huh?” Mylene found it difficult to believe. Someone capable of releasing such a terrifying aura and such overwhelming pressure was actually around her age? That was simply incredible!
“You’ll understand once we get up there.” Yae-hime smiled. Yet for some reason, a trace of concern lingered within that smile.
(Being too young can sometimes be quite troublesome as well.)
Eight minutes later, the black SUV finally reached the summit. The area ahead was still as devastated as it had been the day before. The road beyond was impassable to vehicles.
The moment the three of them stepped out of the SUV, the chilling aura instantly intensified. It felt as though an icy gale had swept across the mountaintop.
Mylene looked forward as the energy within her body surged outward, meeting the pressure head-on. For a moment, the very atmosphere trembled violently. Even the dark clouds overhead were affected, slowly parting to reveal the moon hanging in the sky.
Silver moonlight cascaded down, bathing everyone beneath it. Only then did Mylene finally make out the figures standing in the distance. There was a man and a woman, both dressed in green military uniforms.
At a glance, she identified the silver-eyed girl with long golden curls and a slender figure as the source of that overwhelming aura. The young Silver Wolf that Yae-hime had mentioned.
This truly was a duel between the new generation.
On the other side, the moment Avelora saw the three girls appear, her face filled with confusion. Because she did not see Ronald, the sworn enemy of her clan. Instead, three young women were walking toward them. All three were S-Rank Grandmasters.
The one on the left, who appeared to be the oldest, was somewhat weaker. The petite and adorable girl on the right possessed tremendous strength. As for the breathtakingly beautiful existence standing in the middle, Avelora could not see through her at all. The strength she possessed resembled a bottomless abyss, unfathomable and endless.
(A trap?)
For an instant, that thought flashed through her mind. But she quickly shook her head inwardly. This duel had been officially recognized by both nations. The possibility of a trap simply did not exist. Yet Ronald still had not appeared. What exactly was going on?
“P-Princess… Yae-hime!” At that moment, while Avelora remained puzzled, the man in military uniform beside her suddenly cried out in shock.
Hearing that, Avelora became even more confused. “P-Princess? Yae-hime? What does that mean?”
“……” Suppressing the astonishment in his heart, the military officer looked at her with the same expression one might use when staring at a country bumpkin who had never seen the world.
This Silver Wolf actually didn’t know who Yae-hime was!
(Which backwater mountain village did she crawl out of…? No, wait, she really did just come out of some remote mountain backwater.)
Recalling Avelora’s cold and isolated homeland, the man in military uniform quickly began explaining Yae-hime’s background to her.
“A high-ranking Grandmaster? That really is troublesome.” After listening to the explanation, a trace of gloom appeared on Avelora’s face.
With her strength, dealing with an ordinary high-ranking Grandmaster would not have been a problem. But now there were three powerful Grandmasters here. Even if her grandfather were to come back to life and recover his peak strength, he would probably still meet his end on the spot.
“You’re Silver Wolf?” Yae-hime stopped five meters away from Avelora and asked. Mylene and Pixie stood half a step behind her.
“Indeed, I am Silver Wolf, Avelora.” Brushing aside her long golden curls, Avelora answered neither arrogantly nor humbly. As long as they were not planning to gang up on her, she had nothing to fear.
“Greetings, Lady Yae-hime, and greetings to the two Grandmasters.” The man in military uniform bowed deeply, his expression tense. He was merely an A-Rank transcendent. Standing before beings of the Grandmaster level, maintaining composure was no easy task.
Who knew whether they might consider him disrespectful and erase him on a whim if they were displeased?
“Much appreciated.” Yae-hime glanced at him before turning her attention back to Avelora. “You’re the new generation’s Silver Wolf?”
“That’s right.” Avelora nodded, the aura around her remaining as powerful as ever. Like a ferocious beast that had entered combat mode.
“Relax. I’m only here to act as a referee. Under normal circumstances, I won’t interfere in your battle.” Yae-hime waved her hand casually and spoke in a calm tone.
Upon hearing those words, Avelora’s brows twitched. Her dissatisfaction instantly soared to its peak. Prior to this, she had never heard anything about a referee presiding over the duel.
No, wait. This was supposed to be a death match. How had it suddenly been downgraded into an ordinary duel? This woman… what gave her the right!?
The way Avelora looked at Yae-hime gradually became hostile. Yet the latter seemed to have no intention of paying her any attention.
“Mylene, this is your stage now.” After saying that, she retreated to the side together with Pixie. Only then did Avelora properly look at Mylene.
“My grandfather isn’t in Roc City right now. I’m his granddaughter, and since you’re a granddaughter as well, let’s settle the karma of the past between ourselves.” Standing upright, Mylene spoke in a calm, matter-of-fact tone.
The moment her words left her mouth, a terrifying killing intent surged from the opposite side, whipping her hair into disarray. “Are you kidding me!?” Avelora shouted. There was only one reason she had come to Roc City: To kill Ronald and take his head back to her homeland as an offering to her grandfather’s spirit.
For that purpose, she had waited an entire night. Yet now, a childlike girl had appeared before her and declared herself to be the opponent. This was blatant contempt. A naked humiliation.
“What gives you the right to take Ronald’s place!? What gives you the right to duel me!?” Avelora cried out hysterically. The icy killing intent erupting from her was like a volcano exploding.
Mylene stood firmly where she was, unmoving as a mountain. Her expression remained calm as she replied: “We’re both juniors of our respective families. What gives you the right to say I’m unqualified?”
In the next instant, violent white lightning burst from her body, crackling through the air with explosive pops and snaps. At the same time, a horrifying aura spread outward, colliding head-on with Avelora’s killing intent. A powerful shockwave immediately rippled across the battlefield.
The man in military uniform could not withstand it. His sturdy body was sent flying through the air on the spot. Unlike him, however, the shockwave automatically dissipated before it could even approach Yae-hime and Pixie, vanishing without a trace.
“……” Feeling the terrifying aura radiating from Mylene, Avelora’s expression changed dramatically, and shock filled her heart. This girl truly possessed the qualifications to fight her in a battle to the death.
